Title: Anyone pick up an extra one of those 15-inch ELO touchscreens?
Post by: spauldingd on April 04, 2010, 10:08:28 am
A couple months ago I helped a friend buy one of those $40 15-inch ELO touchscreens that seller had on E-bay.  He sold a ton of them.

I came across something that I thought I could turn into a cool jukebox, but was hoping to find a cheap touchscreen to use on this project.

Did anyone buy an extra or lose interest in the project?

Thanks,
Dave in Des Moines

I'm not sure which seller you are referring to but I did pick up one of the 15" elo's from a buyer mentioned here on the board at some point.  I fall into that category of "lost interest" in my project  :(  Anyways, I'd be willing to part with it.  I'm sure you'd like some specs, but I'll have to post those when I get home from work.  I can tell you that it is a 15" ELO with serial interface only.  The touch controller needs its own power supply.  I ended up buying a "wiring kit" of sorts directly from ELO which has all of the connectors and what not to get the touch controller powered up and to connect the board which has the monitor controls on it for brightness, contrast, size, etc. adjustment.  If you are at all interested I'll try to get you some info soon.

Please let me know exactly what you have and what it would take for you to part with it.

Not to step on spauldingd toes, but if anyone else has a spare they are interested in parting with, I'm also in the market.

reply, PM, or email back.

Thanks!

spauldingd, did you get what you were looking for?

Not yet...I've been watching the seller on eBay and he hasn't had any auctions in quite some time.  Finding another source of $40 15 inch touchscreens isn't easy.

I got one. I wish I'd got 3. That LCARS jukebox mounted in the wall I saw around here a few days ago was fantastic!

I'm keeping my eye out for another auction like that too.

I picked one up from eBay for a BIN price of $50 + $15 S/H

That vendor still has more it looks like, as they relist the auction after one goes.

Mine came with a bezel, fwiw, and had some pigtails that reportedly hook into internal speakers. It was in good shape, no scratches. One stuck pixel, but otherwise works perfectly. A good deal IMO.

How do you connect it to a pc? It says that it does not contain a usb cable, does that mean it connect via usb to pc?

I might be in for one, just waiting to figure out how I would connect it to my pc.

Yes.

Most used monitors don't come with cables. You'll need a typical power cable, VGA of course for the video, and the touchscreen part works via USB.  You use one like this USB B/A (http://www.audioadvisor.com/images/KKUSBB_000.JPG) to hook it up, and of course the drivers from the ELO website (http://www.elotouch.com/Support/Downloads/dnld.asp).

This is the same seller.  I wonder why he changed his username as he had very good feedback.  Strange.  $10 more than before, but ya, still a bargain.

I forgot to ask, does it work fine with win 7?

*edit* Nevermind... I see it has drivers for all versions of windows.  How well does it work? does it sense the touch right away?

My friend has Win7 on the juke he is building with this monitor.  It works great.  He especially likes the ripple effect when you touch the screen.  It looks like you are dipping your finger in water.  I've yet to see it, but he was very happy.

can someone outline how they installed the monitor? what settings are you using?

I have a dual screen setup, and it's action pretty weird.

When I use the touch screen the actions come out on the main monitor instead of the second monitor.

on dual screen with the touch on the secondary screen (you have to extend the desktop not clone), simply do a calibration, once the calibration shows on the main monitor, hit esc. (escape). then the calibration will move to the second screen, and do the calibration there.

the touch will be locked to the secondary monitor.

my setup works fine. 20" widescreen and a 19" touch.

I was doing that but for some reason the touches the touchscreen would be shown on the main screen. adding the touch screen as the second screen, then disconnecting the main screen during the touchscreen calibration and it works fine now.  Now only if i could keep using the touch screen while something is fullscreen.
