Hi guys. I don't usually preorder but I really want to get super mario galaxy 2 on its release day. I have heard gamestop never has enough copy to fill there orders. Has anyone tried amazon? I wander if It's guaranteed to ship on release day if i preorder or if its just a waiting list thing. thanks.

I wouldn't worry about preordering, but don't bother with Gamestop. Walmart/Target will get lots of copies and almost never sell out of a hot new game.
If you order from Amazon you can pay for release day delivery which will get it to you on release day (unless there's a UPS delay), but other than that the only way to guarantee they ship it on release day it to pay for 1 or 2 day shipping. If you go for the free shipping it's going to be delayed a minimum of a week.

Thanks, samstag.

Sometimes there are various bonuses given in exchange for preordering. For example I saw a commercial yesterday for a special silenced shotgun if you preorder Splinter Cell from Gamestop, so these bonuses are sometimes actual in-game bonuses that are only available to people who preordered. Also, the bonuses often differ depending on which store you preorder from, so deciding the best place to preorder often comes down to shopping for which bonus appeals to you the most.

This is another reason for my recent rant topic on Gamestop in the consoles section. Preordering from Gamestop doesn't guarantee you :censored: !!
So many of my friends have placed preorders there and didn't get the bonus item.. The excuse is always "oh we only got a very limited quantity" or just "we didn't receive any" I have a friend who used to work at one and he would always come home with a bunch of the preorder crap for free because the employees were allowed to get first dibs.
I walked in there 2 days after the Metroid Prime Trilogy was released and simply asked if they had any preoder bonus Metroid shirts leftover. The manager told me no that they were strictly for the people who preordered the game because they only received enough for them. As soon as the manager went in the back the younger guy working at the register told me he'd hook me up anyways, which was way cool of him no doubt.. but just proves my point. Later that week I went on the Gamestop website to read peoples reviews and everyone was complaining about how they all preordered the game and didn't get a shirt.. that's funny, I got one w/o preodering and was 2 days late!

It's sort of difficult to run out of in-game shotguns, though.

I haven't pre-ordered or bought a game on launch day in a long time. If you can wait about a month after the game comes out, you can pick it up on ebay for around $40 or less for a game that is $60 at launch.

amazon usually has great deals too I think you get a $20 Gift card when you pre-order super mario galaxy 2 right now
I recently pre-ordred Red Dead Redemption for realease day delivery from amazon and got a $20 gift card some in game outfit or something.
It was $6 extra for release day delivery but they game me a $5 download credit so in short
Game $60
Shipping $6
---------------
$66
gift card -$20
download-$5
credit
----------------
total $41
not to bad for a new game on release day (given that you use that stuff from amazon, which i do regularly)

Except that most of the in-game swag is delivered via single-use codes anymore. So yea, very easy to run out.
