I just bought a SS that supposedly plays decent but has 'ghost' cars and banding. I'm picking it up tomorrow. The seller is going to include a 2nd set of PCBs that he suggests I grab ICs from. What do you think - easy fix?

Hey do you still need a monitor discharge?
-
Ack!
Hey Ray! I haven't gotten back to those other projects for a while, darnit. I'm not sure what I need.
What do you think of this SS?
-
I have no idea what's going on there. Almost looks like board problems. But could be some monitor issues too... Tough call. I always go for a cap kit and then see what problems I'm left with.

Okay, I got it home. It has been suggested that this might be happening because there's a standard res monitor in there now. The sticker on the horizontal mount suggests it is a WG 19K4903 but that doesn't mean the chassis is, right? How can I discern the difference? Super Sprint is supposed to be med res. What do you think?

Did you ever get it figured out?
It's got to be a medium res monitor, or else you would not get a picture. You could try a cap kit but those monitors had bad solder joints all over if I remember correctly.
Good luck trying to find one just like it, they want $$$$ for a 25 year old monitor. They still sell some new Neotec tri-syncs for $275 ish. You could also get a converter for $50 to use a LCD in there if you don't mind the non authenticity.
I bought a used cherry master Neotec nt-500 for $100 off of Ebay. I looked for a long time. Just actually hooked it up yesterday- I can confirm it works fine with Atari system II boards :)
