Title: made a layout ..show and tell time
Post by: R0UNDEYEZ on April 01, 2010, 07:50:17 pm
Hello, I made myself a new layout for my controller yesterday and I figured I would share a screenshot of it to see if anyone else would have any interest in  using it as well.
I was going for a star trekish /old school kinda sci fi feel.
It displays marquee, screen shots, and video over the screen shots if i happen to have them available
as well as text for title, game list, rom number in list total ,year, and manufacturer
*edit*  i forgot to mention its set up for 1024x768 only.. *edit*
where it says thorcade is title displaying its not part of the base graphic ,however  both the words year and manufacturer are

I do have a couple questions. when i display the clock option it adds the extra colon on the end for some reason.can someone tell me why?
Also,
I made graphics to show how many players (1-4) the game is and if its simultaneous  or  alternating, and it works on most of my lists no problem, however I have a game list for classics and none of the graphics show in there even though they will show for the same game in other lists. is there something obvious i'm overlooking?

Good looking layout.

Can't answer the second question as I don't have my mame computer up now to look at the settings.  But I can direct you  here  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=95588.0) for the answer to the extra colon in the time.

This has now been fixed.

I'm sorry, I had actually forgotten about this thread since I hadn't really had any response to it for a while. I' m actually in the process of making similar themed  layouts for my other emulators I'm adding  to my controller as well. My plan is to have original controllers  plugged into usb adapters for each system I add so it will be as close to "real " gaming experience for each system as possible.
I've got SNES so far and plans to add NES,N64,Genesis, Playstation and Atari soon. The non mame emulators have a spot for boxart and  snapshots.
I'll add a picture here of the SNES layout i've got so far.. I've been wanting to redo it since I don't like it as well as the MAME one i posted on the beginning of this thread, but I can't really decide what it is thats bothering me about it and am considering i might just be burned out  working on it. Anyway, heres a picture.. When I have more layouts completed I will zip them all together and upload them.(I'll upload the mame one soon too, just a different time, too tired right now

Oh yeah, In the first post I had mentioned that my certain list didn't display the graphics for the nplayers.ini file.. I figured out what was going on with that, but still have no idea why it is happening.
Basicly if i create a gamelist with romlister the graphics work fine, if I build a list in MALA with the list editor tool that information will not show. Is this a known bug loadman? Its not a huge deal since I just remade the list that was having a problem with romlister and it works fine now, but I thought you should know MALA doesn't seem to be including the needed info on lists for nplayers.ini to work.

I like it! It's hard to go wrong with a good LCARS theme!

I made myself an Atari gamelist in the same theme..This one just shows box art and no snapshots since atari games aren't visually very exciting to look at and most don't have any sort of title screen anyway. I also finished taking N64 snapshots and collecting boxart last night so will be starting on an n64 list soon as well.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback

Made myself a Playstation layout. Not 100% satisfied with the area under the game list so might go back and tweak it more later, however right now I need to work on getting the emulator to load a little smoother from MALA. N64 is Probably going to be the next layout I attempt after getting this one running proper.
I figure since the newest version of mala is still being beta tested, I can share the layout files updated to the new version once its a little more stable.

Maybe that needs to be my next build....

Thank you everyone for the feedback! and to answer your question empardopo ,yes I made these with Photoshop, but I didn't do anything  in these you couldn't do in a alternative option like gimp.

Are the details in the version of 'controls.ini' you have set?

After you got the latest controls.ini did you refresh the game list?

This will update the main (all games) list. If you want to pass this update onto you custom list then on the game lists tab choose the lists then click the 'Update all lists' button

Have a look at this post:

I made another  Layout, this time for the Nintendo 64.
I think I am going to incorporate the little section with the specs into some of the older layouts I have made since I like seeing the hardware comparisons over the different generations of game systems.

I love these layouts, great job. I'm a big Star Trek fan. Don't forget to post a download link to these when you're satisfied, I would be proud to use them!! I am pretty fluent in photoshop, but not so much with layouts, would it be a simple affair of changing the size of the art to optimize for 800x600?  :applaud:
