Based on personal experience and what I have seen others here pay...anywhere from $50 to $150 per sheet.  Sheets are typically 4'x8' but I have also been quoted 5'x12' sheets.

You need to find resellers of Wilsonart or Formica.  Bet bet are major retailers like Home Depot or kitchen and cabinet mom and pop shops.  I have received decent quotes from kitchen cabinet places ~$80 for a 4'x8' sheet...which isn't as good as a volume retailer but certainly not terrible.

You will generally need 2-3 sheets to finish an upright (giving it the interior treatment).  A bartop could be done with one easy.

I just bought two sheets of Altofina laminate, one black & one yellow. I chose the 'TX' finish that has a very subtle texture to it rather than billiard ball smooth.

Both are 3080mmx1250mmx0.7mm. The laminate plus 2 cans of laminate adhesive came to £72.06 from Blackheath Products in the UK.

Where are you located?

I work at distributor of "Pionite" (a brand of laminate) among other cabinet making supplies.
do a search for distributors in your area... some of the popular brands in the US are Pionite, Nevamar, Wilsonart and Formica

The way laminate is bought and sold leaves a huge window for price negotiation (use them against each other ;) ).

In general though, the standard black goes for about $1.40-$1.75 a sq foot

That's good info.  So a full sheet should range from $45 to $56.  Wow - there is a huge mark-up at Home Depot.

Here in Indiana Lowes quoted me 45$ a sheet of the cheap stuff.
Countertop grade (Armstrong I think?) was $65 $65 a sheet (cheapest countertop grade)

Hmm they charged me about $55 per sheet...compared to Mom and Pops charging $80...that actually isn't that much of a markup...are they that much more expensive in the States?

It must be - I've been to a few different HDs and they all charge the same price - it's WilsonArt brand though so at least it is OK stuff.

I've been trying to get laminate for a decent price for a couple of years now.

At the Home Depots I've gone to I've seen the prices range from over $40 to over $100 for the 4' x 8' sheets, depending on whether they have to order the specific color you want. (I have yet to see wood grain or black).

javeryh. Where did you get your laminate from???

Can we give a curve to the laminate?

I tried looking at Home Depot over the week-end but only got an unexperienced newbie teen girl with an "in training" tag that didn't understand what I was talking about...

(its not for my upcoming cab, its for a desk; but if I like the lamination process and the finish, might think of laminating my cab as well)

Try different Home Depots.  Black is a common color and is often stocked at the back of the store where the laminated counter tops are.   In the kitchen cabinet area there is often a sample area with small samples of all the different colors that they can order.
