Title: Rowe R 89 Jukebox
Post by: sleeeper on March 29, 2010, 09:36:25 pm
I am considering buying a Rowe R89 jukebox. Does anyone have any input on these? The price is $300. Is this a good price? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hi Sleeeper,

The price seems fine, as Ken says they can be reliable in operation however it depends on what has been done to them.

The jukebox was produced in 1985 and was available in the Sapphire 89 and Golden 89, this was the first of newer smaller CCC (used on the R-89 to R-94).
The jukebox included a sound to light unit which had 10 channels. These units can be a problem and the correct voltage and wattage lamps must be used.

The keyboard on this jukebox had a vinyl overlay and may need to be changed if worn out.

Like all Rowe Ami electronic jukeboxes this jukebox is subject to dry joints (called cold joints in the USA) on the board connection pins on all of the boards from the power supply pcb, CCC, Mechanism Control Board and the Sound to Light Unit.

The gripper bow assembly should not have been oiled or greased, infact oil /grease should not be used at all on this jukebox.
I hope this helps you.

Hi Ami-Man,

I have an R89 Jukebox and it picks up a record then puts it right back down again.  Any ideas on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi jmozzy98,

You did not leave a name, sorry.

Does it keep doing that? over and over again picking the same record? If this is the case then you need your boards testing.

If you are saying that any selection you select the selected record is placed on the turntable and then rejects and goes onto the next selected record then that is another thing all together.

For this you need to check that there are no shorts in the reject circuit and that the reed switch switch is not broken (it should be normally open circuit until the record has ended).

Alan

Hello grdn48,

You are going to have problems locating the keypad overlay for the R-89, I used to stock these (old stock) I have not seen anyone selling them and I have not seen any available from the likes of Suzo/Happ for many years the part numbers are as follows:-

Keyboard Assembly 4-07809-01
Selector Overlay 4-07811-01

The Error 1 code on the CCC indicates that the battery needs replacing and resetting to factory setting.

Alan

Hello,

I just purchased an R-89 and I don't know if it's a Sapphire 89 or a Golden 89.  How do you tell the difference?  Or is there a difference?
