Hi guys
Apologies if this has been answered somewhere before but all I have found is http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Spinner_Turn_Count (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Spinner_Turn_Count) which doesn't really answer the question.
Is there a repository somewhere of CFG/INI files (or a table of the settings for different controllers) for analogue controlled games (ie analogue joysticks/spinners/wheels/trackballs) to configure sensitivity of the controllers? I have two TT2's, two U360's and a Happ 3" trackball and absolutely no idea what to set the analogue settings to for various games (usual suspects: Arkanoid, Tempest, Out Run, Super Sprint, Centipede/Millipede, Marble Madness etc) to make them exactly as they were in the arcades
Cheers all

:bump
Anyone....?

Yeah, what happened
This keeps coming up but I haven't seen it done
We should try to do it

I think it would be great to have this information. I currently have a trackball and haven't really had to many issues with trackball games. I want to get a Turbo Twist 2 soon and know that spinner games need to be tweaked a lot more.
Hope we see this soon.

+1

This is a great thing for end users to put into the wiki :)

Bump. I would like to see this too. In fact, if someone would just post one or two games for the TT2 here, we can keep adding to the list in the thread.

Wouldn't you need access to the original machines? For arkanoid, you'd need to know how many degrees of spinner rotation it took to move the vaus say from one side of the screen to the other. Then you'd have to fiddle with mame and or windows settings to get it to match.

This is the problem I foresee. I wanted to set my Happs 3" trackball to be exact same setting for Centipede and Marble Madness. But without knowing how many ball "revolutions" (or finger tip movements from left to right) it takes to make the character move full screen left/right and up/down it will prove impossible. For games like Centipede and Arkanoid it could be worked out with this method. But for Marble Madness?!

Well for the most part you only need to change MAME, as long as everyone uses Windows defaults. But a list of the actual radius/motion for controllers of real arcade games would certainly be a better idea.
I can't be the only person who bought a TT2. What is everyone else doing to configure your spinner games? Just eyeballin' it? :dunno ;)
-
I just eyeballed the config for my steering wheels. It's not right, but I just wanted to be able to play reasonably well. I would prefer accurate, but since that would likely take a large time investment I know it will never happen (on my system anyway).
-
Any progress on this? Has anybody generated a list of recommended MAME settings for spinners/trackballs/etc?
-
Using the Spinner Turn Count from the Wiki isn't the place to start? It gives you a % place to start, just by doing simple math. I freewheel for the most part, just do it by memory and feel. I have a TT2 with steering wheel and adjust the sensitivity until it works well enough. A true guide would be super helpful, however.

This is the great thing about MAME. You can adjust these parameters to your preference. Since yer not using the original controls with the original hardware, its automatically null and void anyway. Centipede with a 3" trackball is vastly different than with its original 2-1/4". Missile Command without its original *huge* trackball....forget it.
Just set the axis sensitivities where it feels right to you. Trying to duplicate movement per optical wheel revolution/pulse count/ball rotation is just nitpicking.....

Seems we have our first entry from Randy, in this linked thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=114886.msg1218501#msg1218501)

Many years ago, I did a not so scientific "study" on this @ Funspot. I think the info is around here some where. Arkanoid, Tempest, and Centipede were ones I did. From the values I determined you could set the analog controls sensitivity etc to match it. Now I just gotta dig up the post. :)
