Post by: U_C_A_B on March 21, 2010, 02:02:28 pm
Hi there, does anybody know of a good frontend that supports multiple versions of mame and can be used in a mame cabinet?

HyperSpin can.  You could even have games that run on different versions of MAME all on the same menu.

Mamewah , through a game specific ini file, can handle multiple version of mame.

i would think any of them can, as long as they don't insist on an .exe file for MAME. if you can specify a bat/cmd file, you can do whatever you like in one list. i run MAME .128 with some games running .99, and others being run by Zinc. through MaLa.

I run three different MAME versions using Mamewah.

How exactly do you do this?  Thanks.

the second one is probably enough. the first is if you wanna cheat like me and add non-MAME stuff to your MAME list. like i have Magic Engine running Parasol Stars (it's my only TG16 game, so of course I don't want another list for it). shoulda been an arcade game!

To play games that work in one version of MAME that don't work, or just don't work as well, in another.

To have Wolfmame 1.06 available for when you want to record high scores or view other peoples .inp files and still be able to fall back on current versions of MAME for general purpose play.

How can you have all three dkong,d2k and dkong3 all together?  I didn't see them in MAME.

I think you misunderstood the reply, which is understandable.  (Engrish is hard.  ;) )

He means to add non-official mame games back into mame in appearance only (you have one gamelist but games from multiple versions are added to it)

D2k is supported in misfit mame, NOT mame.

Thus re-combining them back together.

He didn't mean a 4 in 1 rom or something like that.

Please don't bring that mess up.  Or I'll have to comment... and it will get bad.  Trust me.   ;)

About the .bat thing, how do you code it? Sorry I sound noobish, but how would you code the BAT to redirect you to the different versions of mame. I've read the topic about it but I just don't get it, I'd like to use AtomicFE.
