I got a Imperial/Wico 3 inch Trackball. Hooked it up to the mouse port just fine and it worked like a champ on golden tee.
Couple days later I unplugged it with the computer off and went to go test fit it on my CP. When I plugged it back in it doesnt work. I have no idea what happened. I opened her up and checked the rollers and all the wire connections and all seems to be fine. I plugged into another computer to see if it was the computer still didnt work.
How can i fix it?
This really sucks cause I am so close to finishing my cab :'(. Any suggestions?
Can i replace the electronics without replacing the whole trackball?
Would putting it next to anything magnetic have broken it?
-
Magnetic fields should not have hurt it.
Is this one of the PS/2 versions that they sell?
-
I bought it from someone on the board and it is the PS2 version.
-
Check your pins on the connector, are they bent?

Pins and connectors are all fine. I unplugged em and reglugged them to make sure.
-
Mouse drivers? broken solder joint?
-
First, the imperial is made by betson, not wico:)
Is it a mouse hack or the ps/2 imperial?
err, you said ps/2 version. Meaning it came like that?
-
Yeah, sorry Poonga.
Its an Imperial I get confused.
It isn't a hack the PS/2 goes directly.
-
If you got it direct from them, time to check your warranty options!
-
Does it work when you plug it back into the original machine that it was working on when you tested it? Maybe it's the port. Try plugging it into a different PC. Try plugging a different mouse into your cabinet's PC.

I would take it back but I bought it from a fellow BYOCer.

It doesn't work on the origional machine or the machine I have upstairs. I guess ill try bringing it to work but I doubt its the port.

Did you buy it from me? If so I apologise but it was only a couple of months old when I
bought sold it and it sounds like it worked when you got it. I hate to see one of my sales go south, maybe we can work out something amiable, PM me.

Silly question: Are you connecting the trackball with the power off? PS/2 trackballs are not hot-pluggable...

Yeah i am aware of this ;D I plugged it in with computer off.

I might suggest using a multi-meter and checking the continuity<SP> between the pins on the connector and the wires at the TB. Maybe something broke between the 2 ends...
-
As I said in the PM Sorry this happened. Send it back and I will refund your money.
-
That's a classy move Birdtales. Cheers to you!

Well i opened it up last night and double checked all the things mentioned in this thread.
I even brought it to work today and tried it out on another computer... no luck.
Now assuming the electronics is at fault if i bought the following...
Imperial & Wico TB optic pcb
from Bob Roberts would that replace all the boards in the trackball or is that just for the sensors.
-
I'm sure that's just the optical sensors. What has probably gone bad is the PS2 interface part. :(
Edit: and no I'm sorry I don't know where to get one. If you send it back I'll probably just mouse hack it.

While you have it open, do you see any broken or loose solder joints?
-
Nope all solder points looked fine. And i have decent experience soldering.
I went ahead and ordered a new trackball from Happs. I will send you back yours as soon as i find a box.
I hope you can fix it. Thanks again.

Said7 and Birdtales,
I ordered two of those ps/2 trackballs from Betson.
Due to some confusion with the order I happen to have the phone number of the Betson facility that assembles these in Roselle, Il.
I am in another building right now, but I could send the number to you when I go back to my office at lunch time. If you called them you maybe able to get a new board.
