Title: instant sheller / soft-15khz problem
Post by: thesharkfactor on March 17, 2010, 08:08:47 pm
hi guys, i hope someone can help..,

currently setting up my 2nd mame cab, this time with gameex. im using an arcade cab with a 15khz monitor, a j-pac and soft-15khz with a supported gfx card (ati radeon hd 4350).

i set the pc up with mame and gameex using a normal lcd monitor. earlier, just moments before i hooked the pc up the cabinet, i installed quickres and set my resolution to 640x480, then installed the 15-khz option of soft-15khz- then hooked it all up through the j-pac and arcade monitor.

a few tweaks to horizontal and vertical roll, picture position etc and all was superb. i started gameex, loaded up street fighter 2 (a good generic size to set my picture to), made the tweaks and ajustments to the montior pots etc.. and all good.

i did a couple of restarts and all was fine. the pc shut down, booted up with the normal interference on the bios and loading screen into my desktop.

all good..

i then used instant sheller to shell gameex, set my desktop black etc..all the options checked except one- "changes for this user only" option i think..

upon restart, all appears well- normal interference from bios and boot screen, then nothing- blackness- gameex is running in the background but i have no video at all.

i reset the pc, it boots up, interference on the screen- i can hear gameex loads- but no video! i note the green sync led on the jpac is not lit.

so i then plug the pc back into the lcd monitor just incase it has reverted back to 31khz settings and reset again. it boots up and i can see the bios and gameex logo the monitor, then it says "out of range" (soft-15khz loads up)- so i plug it back into the jpac/cabinet and i have my video back again!.. great.. but when i restart- same thing-- no video.

i have uninstalled/undone instant sheller changes a couple of times but i just get this same result whether instant sheller is enabled or not.

in order to get video(any screen), i have to start the pc while plugged into the lcd monitor, wait for it to boot and the monitor to say out of range, then switch to the jpac/arcade monitor and this will show my desktop or gameex (depending if instant sheller is running or not).

i did not have this problem before i first installed instant sheller. all was well and the pc would boot thencommunicate fine with the 15khz monitor. now, it seems that my pc wont output a 15khz signal until its been told by an lcd monitor that it is out of range for the lcd- then it will output video 15khz..

i hope this makes sense and i hope someone can help!!

thanks

got it sorted.. read up abit of the soft15khz thread, all i had to do was use the dvi connection oon my gfx card instead of vga..

cheers
