Let me rephrase that:
Is the Mag-Stik Plus still the only 4/8way joystick that is switchable from the top w/o any exposed levers or switches?
I've been outta the game for a while but I'm getting back into a bit and I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

There is the U360 from ultimarc that has software controllable mapping. Mag-Stik Plus is the only physically switchable from the top of the panel that I can think of.

If you get an analog Joystick like the U360, you generally don't have to electronically switch it.
MAME will take care of that automatically for most of the games.
For games like Qbert, a custom joystick mapping works best, but this can easily be accomplished through the specific game config file.

while i haven't personally used one, there is also the omnistik prodigy from groovygamegear

i dont really like the look of it, since it has a weird shaped handle and a mounting plate, but it is an option
personally i love my Ultrastik 360s, no manual switching required and they work great with just about every game (Qbert FTW!!!)

I wish there was . I was a big fan of the Mag-stick plus- Now after using them a while - they are ok, but the throws are really stiff, especially for kids or 1st time users. Guess I'll have to convert to U360's even though I like the analog feel.

I had mag-stick in my cocktail for awhile. Basically there wasnt enough clearance to comfortably switch it back and forth with the glass in the way. I broke 1 within 1 week. One of the switches on the joy split because the joy was to stiff and didnt handle being rough with it. at all. im not happy with the quality of them tbh. I know many like em and have no problems of any kind. But I did. I didnt even contact andy i was so pissed off. just threw em in the trash.
*EDIT to be fair this was a couple years ago so mag-stick may have evolved since I had mine
