Title: Could someone please verify this?

I am using a happs 3" Tball with an Opti-Pac Connected
by the Serial Port . The Problem is I can't do a click and drag. I can't move an icon in windows, drag a card in solitaire or highlite text in notepad or other wp's .
I am running win98se . If someone with a similar configuration could check this I would appreciate it.
The Tball works fine in all games I  have tried.

I have the same problem, but it has nothing to do with the trackball.
The problem is apparently the microswitch button (combined with the Opti-Pac).

So ... I have the same problem.

If I'm not mistaken, arcade buttons are momentary contact.  A mouse click - hold - and drag requires that the button be continually pressed throughout the drag process.

As far as your computer is concerned, you clicked and immediately released the button.

This is the same setup that I was planning on...... :-[

Would switching from microswitch to leaf style buttons fix the problem?

I believe so since I don't think that leaf microswitches are momentary contact.  I have some here and I don't see how they could make them that way.

I'd give it a shot but i'd say it's about 99% that it would work.

A momentary stays in contact as long as it is being pushed.  How long you push the button is how long the moment lasts.  The button doesn't just turn itself off.

Jungle,  no.  Leaf switches and the microswitches in the buttons are both momentary switches.

Problem Solved!
It turns out that I had to delete the mouse and serial port from windows device manager and then re-scan for new hardware. after that everything works great.
I can't say enough good things about Andy Warne at Ultimarc. I bought my optipac last august and he gave me support on it like I bought it yesterday. I sent him an E-mail and within about an hour he was replying with suggestions,and he continued helping me until the problem was resolved. The problem was'nt with his Opti-pac at all it was more of a windows problem. Hmmm maybe if we could get Andy a job a Micro$oft we could get all those Illegal op and fatal exception errors in Windows fixed!

Thanks for the correction.  I had a similar problem before that I fixed by replacing the buttom with a different type.  All this time I thought it was because of the microswitch.
