Link to ebay auction for MAME/ROM set removed
-
I reported it. I suggest everyone else do so.
-
But he's not selling anything!
The contents of the disc are free.
::) Reported.
-
what a SCUM BAG
-
Look though his history of FEEDBACK and the related items... all MAME... dude's been doing this for some time... and I know I've reported him in the past. Ebay doesn't give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- anymore it seems.
-
Somebody rub the lamp....
We need Super Foley to the rescue....or not. :droid
-
Is it just the venue that he's selling them on that causes such a fuss? Romburners have been selling the "blank CDs" for years and haven't been shut down yet.
-
I like his labels.
-
Other than the legal side, this is a pretty decent deal! $5UK for 4 DVD's burned and delivered that saves the user hours or days of computer time. And, the labels look cool.
But yes, very bold to do this in the open...
-
why report it. isn't this what we are all doing. building cabinets to play mame games?
why skirt the nod nod, wink wink song and dance. what are the cabinets, emulators and
front ends for without the roms?

Legal ROMs, game compliations that can be purchased, and the hundreds if not thousands of remakes and arcade like games out there that can all be run without breaking copyright. On top of that they're violating the MAME-Dev wishes and license.

Personally, I like for this community to stay on the underground. Selling ROMs on ebay is a form of mainstream exposure that I really don't want. As long as we are only exchanging the roms for free between each other, copyright owners are more likely to look the other way.
What this guy is doing may seem harmless enough, but if it was just let to go as far as it could go, then in a few months you would see websites selling full-on MAME installations with official art and high production values. A commercial product. That sort of thing would cause copyright owners to come down hard on the community.

I'd appreciate the links being removed. You're just giving the scumbag free advertising. Seems he's local ......
Getting Ebay to act in a timely manner is difficult, that's why there are a lot of companies pissed off with them because they make you jump through hoops all the time. Aside their whole idea that everybody must use PayPal etc. I'm at the point of considering them, and PayPal (which they own now) to be little better than common criminals anyway. Both of them are horrible, horrible companies to deal with.

Agreed!
<rant>I've pretty much given up on them due to their extortionary fees. Since they are the same company (essentially), why do you have to pay for all of the "services" that are really all required. I sold a game controller and they required me to set shipping at a certain (for whatever reason, can't remember why now), which resulted in me significantly subsidizing the buyer. Then, I got hit with end auction fees and the PayPal transaction fees (which are pretty high now IMO). In the end, the price that I sold the thing for just about payed for my expenses. Whatever...I just wish there was a better option. </rant>

stuff like this will or may someday MAME DEVE gets pissed off and called it quits. Why messed up a good thing, those who try to make $$$ from all the hard work should just get a job in McDonalds (like I told DF).
Speaking of DF, is his court days over ? What's the result (100 years in prison) ? This is the time we need DF to track this type of scumbags.

i don't agree. even on this forum there are many topics helping noobs with doing everything mame related except hosting the sought after roms.
reminds me of walking into a smoke shop looking at many smoking pipes, rolling papers, marijuana t shirts, lighters with pot leaves, and then finding signs all over the store stating that the word marijuana is not to be uttered. this is just as ridiculous.
i've built many cabinets and will continue to do so and hope the classic arcade cabinet will continue on for years. I'm sure someone selling a romset on ebay for what looks to be an trivial profit will never hault the development of MAME when there are dozens of forums, tutorials, cabinet builders, rom sites, warez sites, usenet groups all devoted to mame and the roms.
-
I hope it never will.
Hopefully the MAME Dev will never get tired, pissed, angry, other reasons etc.....More Power to them.
But....
one can never know. I think Sony and Nintendo are always trying to get any Emulators to be shutdown (but failed so far).

i don't agree.
That's your right, but we do things the John St Clair way around here.

+1 - His board, his rules. If I was paying money to be here, I'd be more critical. However it's free, so he's the king. Besides, we should be supporting any vendor that offers legal alternatives to getting retro gaming goodness...

Are you kidding? The speed at which the law system moves, it'll probably be another year or two before any of that is resolved.

He's still posting away on his twitter last I saw.
