Title: Changing between romset versions - HELP!!
Post by: Anubis_au on March 07, 2010, 05:19:52 pm
Hi guys

I have an old v1.16 romset from 2007(?) and want to recompile the roms for an even older set (0.37).

How do I go about doing this? I can't find the dat file for clrmamepro for v0.37 which I think I need in order to change the romset? Any advice? Am I doing something wrong / going about this the wrone way?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Anubis.

you need:

1. clrmame pro
2. the version of Mame.exe (.37)
3. ROMS if your compile list is missing some

Clrmame will rename the roms (if you have it) to the .37 version. But if you are missing the files, you need to find it.

So, with clrmame pro, a version of MAME.exe and a complete MAME romset, you can effectively go from a higher MAME version to ANY lower MAME version you want and then have ALL the lower MAME roms for the lower version of MAME?

Example, if one has the 1.35 complete MAME romset, the 1.35 MAME.exe and clrmame pro, one only has to run the clrmame pro program to get the 1.19 MAME romset and the run MAME 1.19 with all the correct roms?

Cool.  Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to actually do this?

Thanks.

Incorrect.  CMP will rename files and move them around if needed.  It will not magically give you a redumped version.  If the version you have is not the same version that MAME expects, the rom will not work.  Any rom that CMP checks and finds a problem with will simply not be included in the rebuilt set.

I had the same issue recently (GP2x Wiz).  Clrmame doesn't solve all issues; it helped a bit, but many of my favourites still didn't work.  My solution was to find the complete romset for 0.37.
