Title: Mitsubishi MegaView 33” (XC-3315C) Monitor
Post by: dgame on March 04, 2010, 06:19:26 pm
I have a Mitsubishi MegaView 33” (XC-3315C) presentation monitor on the way:

Monitor specs:

I bought it for this project: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=100785.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=100785.0)

I have an ArcadeVGA card and a RGBHV BNC cable.

Does anyone have opinions on this monitor?

Ever play games on it? Classic computing?

The specs seem like it will be awesome.

It is heavy.

I'm just wondering what else to expect.

Thanks!!!

Looks promising. Let us know what the image quality is like, and how it handles 15 kHz and 25 kHz resolutions.

I have had a few similar monitors.

Mitsubishi Diamondscan 20m

Mitsubishi Megaview 3717C

Mitsubishi AM-3501R

All are excellent monitors.  The Megaview and AM-3501R are humongous, and weigh a ton, but are excellent for MAME.  Classic computing should be fine too, but I wouldn't try anything over a 640x480 resolution.  The specs claim it can do higher, but in my experience the higher resolutions don't look right, or are dim.  Because of the coarse dot pitch of the screen the high resolutions don't make much of a difference anyway.

If you search the monitors forum  for "presentation monitor" you will find many threads on the subject.

The monitor has arrived. This thing is absolutely beautiful! I am completely satisfied with the purchase. On my first ‘test run’ I played Double Dragon to the end. I didn’t intend on playing the entire game. I played through to gawk at the visuals of a familiar game.

Here is a quick review:

The MegaView 33 is a big, heavy, beautiful monitor that displays native arcade resolutions. The picture is bright and crisp and the contrast is excellent. The fat dot pitch and scan lines produce a top quality arcade picture.  I use the ArcadeVGA card to run everything at 15 KHz.

The monitor is multi sync but it does not auto switch the manual adjustments between modes. This means that although you can have two sets of adjustments, you have to manually switch between them when the PC changes video frequencies. This often occurs when emulating old systems as the GUI runs at OS frequencies (say 31 KHz) and the games run at native 15 KHz mode. Using 15 KHz for everything allows one adjustment setting to be used. The rest of the tweaking is done in software. The result is the higher resolutions (15 KHz interlaced) don’t look as good but the games always look perfect.

Some of the MAME video modes chosen by the Avres utility are not optimal and had to be manually changed.

The built-in amplified speakers are loud and clear. The stereo separation is excellent as the speakers are side mounted.

Overall this monitor is great for the arcade and classic gaming experience.
