Title: Hyperspin FTP and questions...
Post by: slapaham on March 02, 2010, 04:38:01 pm
I'm seriously considering going for a gold membership with Hyperspin but had a few questions... with the FTP access, will this enable me to download all the files in one go?

Also, as I've never really set-up Hyperspin completely - are there themes for all games or only certain ones? And the ones that don't have the themes - do they still feature on the frontend in an attractive manor?

Lastly, the video files displayed in the animations - are these provided by Hyperspin or do they need to be downloaded from Emumovies? If the latter, does this cost?

Thanks for the info guys...

yes

Most games do have themes, in fact, there's no game that I would want to play that doesn't have one. But if there is for you, they don't look terrible with no theme

these are not provided by hyperspin, you'll have to get them from emumovies, I think they charge for their membership but I'm not sure, I got mine a while ago when they had torrents available. I think they're strictly ftp now.

Hyperspin is very attractive, well worth the $25 donation

Thanks for the advice... yes, I really like what I've seen and tinkered with. Also, the feedback towards it is high. Once I have some available funds I'll probably opt for it! ;)

It's been an expensive month so far so I'll delay it for a little while longer for now but it'll happen very soon! ;D

EmuMovies provides SD (actually 1/2 def: 320x240) for some systems free via torrent/downloads.  They provide HD (acutally 640x480) for a TON of systems via FTP for a $25 donation.

There's not a theme for every MAME game out there: far from it.  But we're getting close to 750 unique themes.  And if there's something you want done- feel free to post a request for a theme.

He's got a point...

I'm seriously considering going for a gold membership with Hyperspin but had a few questions... with the FTP access, will this enable me to download all the files in one go?

Yeah, you can dl what all they have...BUT...it is constantly growing...New users and old pros are constantly adding more themes and stuff to help....When it was 0.8 version I think the FTP data was about 9 gigs (more or less)...Now with it being 1.0 I think it is now 22 gigs and it is still being updated...(alot of the stuff (taking up space) is box art for the time being)

Also, as I've never really set-up Hyperspin completely - are there themes for all games or only certain ones? And the ones that don't have the themes - do they still feature on the frontend in an attractive manor?

There are themes for the majority of the most known games...(I think there is 750 so far , not for sure)...for the games that dont have themes, They are shown on a default theme according to what system they are... They are default, but they look attractive
(depends on what your taste is)

Lastly, the video files displayed in the animations - are these provided by Hyperspin or do they need to be downloaded from Emumovies? If the latter, does this cost?

Hyperspin has very little videos...most are for custom themes (i.e Movies, intros, user customs) Emumovies has the majority in different formats...which for Hyperspin it is the .FLV format.

Hyperspin saved my tail when i first started...I had a X-arcade tankstick and Maximus Arcade didnt work correctly with it...Hyperspin was tough at first, but i caught on fast understanding xml files and such... When you understand the "Matrix" (Shut up Morpheus!)You can customize it to look different ways....

I donated 25...and its been well spent... Emumovies has different pricing...for different things...I paid 15 for a 1 month access to the FTP and I got in and got out with what i needed....

Cheers people! :)

I suppose if it's around $40 all in that is pretty good for the software you're getting! Time to recuperate a bit more money then go for it I guess! ;)

Just to add my own personal experience.   As with Garnerb350, I started with MA but had numerous issues with my Tankstick at the time. The issues were resolved moving to an IPAC etc but Hyperspin so far has been superior, particularly in the atmosphere and configuration department.  Well worth the $25 donation and it has an active support base on the forums.

In Maximus Arcade's defense...

It's really easy to setup and people will be impressed no matter what at first, but yes hyperspin looks a lot flashier.

I'd say go with hyperspin if you want people to have fun picking games (always a good thing) and if you aren't planning on adding too many systems.  My setup includes waaaaay too many systems >:D, so I've decided to stick with Maximus.

I still have Hyperspin Setup.. I'll probalby make a batch file letting you launch Hyperspin in Maximus Arcade, and and item on the Hyperspin Wheel to launch Maximus Arcade.

My gamer friends weren't impressed by Hyperspin though.. they were far more impressed with Maximus because they could play ANY game they had ever played. I'm not sure why they weren't impressed though. I know I was  :(

Hyperspin makes it look like less of a computer though.. definitely.

Agreed with most of your points Shateredsoul. My big gripe with MA was the lack of response from the author regarding the X Arcade tankstick issues...then to add insult to injury he started advertising for XGaming, while the issue was still unresolved and peppering his forums...that hurt.  And even when I had moved to the IPAC2 etc, the bitterness at the lack of support I had experienced still bothered me.

I will not disagree that MA is a solid product...it served me well for a lot of months.

Yeah...

I that is frustrating.  That made me leave Maximus Arcade several times.  If it were a real business, the store would have been shut down a long time ago.  The lack of support sucks, I feel it's unfair that people also get mad at delusional, he does try to help where he can.  He has helped me a lot in fact on other projects.  But seriously.. I completely agree with you, the lack of support is crazy.  You go on the forum and I swear the main forum is a ghost town.. I stopped posting because I felt my name was on there too much.  Delusional is the only person that helps answering questions, and every once in a while I'll go on there to try and help.

My dream options for hyperspin are a gold member hyperspin (that downloads minted sets of art  automatically, and checks for updates to art and theme) along with an option to scan your folders to make custom xmls (like Maximus does).
