Title: Strange artifacts with arcadeVGA..
Post by: JoeB on July 26, 2003, 06:28:44 pm
System specs:

+ AMD 2400+
+ WG 7000 series 25" monitor
+ 256MB RAM
+ Windows XP + SP1
+ Running SmoothMAME (latest Athlon build) with the proper smooth settings found on this forum
+ Used ArcadeVGARes to build the lst file

I noticed that all games that I want finally work perfectly fine, and that I don't have to play with the vertical hold anymore.  But I did notice the following problem:

- All horizontal games look AMAZING and clean
- Any vertical game (no horizonal stretch, so its ok to have the big black spaces) looks great, except that the top 5-10 lines are "wavy".  Horizontal games in same spot don't show it.

Another problem:

For some reason, WindowsXP doesn't want to show anything on the task bar (even when force, e.g. network connection icon, or SBLive speaker icon) so I can't play with ATI resolutions, so I'm using XP @ 640x480x60hz interlaced.  How else can I change resolutions in windows to none-standard ones??

SO? Anyone else have this problem??

The vertical 288 line resolutions do stretch the monitor to it's limit because the time available for vertical flyback is very short. This is to give time for all 288 lines to be displayed and not drop below 50Hz refresh.

You will probably find tweaking the horizontal hold control will straighten the scan at the top.

Andy, you are amazing!

Right on the money.. initially I couldn't find the horizontal sync dial (WG7000's don't have it on the remote panel) but did find it on the actual monitor..) The artifacts are almost completly gone.. just a tad left.. but not that noticable..

Thanx!
