So I got a final lab dual sit down cabinet..One screen has a cracked neck board and the other plays fine but the screen has artifacts randomly and jagged lines in the graphics..Someone told me to take the game pcb board and check the chips and make sure there plugged in etc.Well this is my first full cabinet - 1st meaning non gutted one so I have never messed with this stuff before..I got the game board out and it looks dirty but it looks like nothings loose or anything..Any advice I want to do from here? Also anyone who has final lap..Where the hell do you plug in the sound? I see the cable coming from the seat but don't know where to plug it in..Thanks.

Definitely a board issue.
I see you have the typical Namco pcb "cage" setup..... are there multiple boards in there or just the one?
Those boards are quite dirty....
Gently pry up each end of any of the socketed chips to clean and re-seat them.
Note which end has the notch, you do not want to put any back in backwards.
See if there is a test mode that can check RAM and ROMs. (I haven't looked through the manual yet to see)

cleaning and reseating is always the first step. thats defintely a board issue and most of the time reseating the roms will fix that. That neck board...wow. get a replacemenet.

Aw heck, that's totally repairable. :)
What make/model monitors are those?
Some sort of Nanao or Kortek or something?

Ok well I cleaned off the board but I only lifted one chip and I almost bent the legs..Is there a easy does it method to remove the chips and what/how should I clean them? Oh and yes the boards are in a cage and theres only one per cage..Each side has its own cage/board..As for the cracked neck board I may have a buddy who knows how to solder help me fix it..Oh and did one of you say you have a manual? Is it a scan? Either way I need to know where to plug the speakers in..I have a wire that has a molex connection at the end that goes from the speakers with a pretty short wire and for the life of me I cant figure out where it goes..Thanks

If you don't have a chip puller just use a small flat bladed screwdriver and gently lift a little from each end at a time so that the chip comes up evenly. You also want press them back in as straight and even as possible while watching the legs. If you do enough of them you will get the feel for it, just take care on the first few for sure.
You can actually use a pencil eraser and gently clean the legs if need be. Careful not to tweak the legs too much.
On the neckboard - it's best to use something like a bit of super glue and glue the crack back together prior to scraping the traces and solder jumping the cracked ones. With care it can be done and not be too shabby of a repair. Bit of a pain, but will work.
I didn't see a manual for the "R" version around the few regular places I checked. (will look some more) But you may be able to compare one side to the other to figure out where the mystery wire goes. Nice thing about twin machines, usually you'll find something to compare to on the other side.

Ok and do you know where the sound plugs in? I found the cord I think that goes to the cars seats speakers but I dont know where it goes..
-
Oh btw I asked because one of my seats had no speakers at all and no wires and the other has the speakers and wire but was not plugged in lol..

Guess that leaves comparing the two out then.... :P
I'd have to see if the regular Final Lap manual is similar enough in those regards to check against.
The seats I have from a Final Lap have since been "modified".

lol modified how? hehe ya I have some cable that has a what looks like a molex connection at the end from the speakers..I looked near the volume control area in the front and nothing lined up..Please let me know..Thanks!

I think im gonna give up and part this thing out..I cleaned all the contacts and now im just getting a blue screen..I compared the board to the 2nd player board to make sure all the chips match and they do..You may see the pedals wheels and pcb board for sale on here soon..My goal was never to restore this cab..I got lucky half the thing even worked at all..I was going to turn this into a xbox/system racing cab..I also think the main game is not that fun
