Hey all,
I recently found myself in a position of having to unzip several thousand roms files. I found a cool little program called 'Unzip Them All'. It worked great for me. You can grab it here.

Word of caution though: It defaults to creating a sub directory for each unzipped file. Doh! So change that setting first.

How beneficial would it be to have every MAME rom open in its own folder rather than using the ZIPs? I wonder i it could substantially increase loading times...

And if you unzip the ROMs, the files need to be in their own folders with the same name as the zip file, anyway.
I say keep them zipped, though. (Depending on the CPU speed vs the harddrive speed) Many modern computers can load and unzip a zip file faster than loading the same files (as in the zip file) unzipped on the same harddrive. Plus the disk space you save, CMPro, and copying/backing up, why unzip? *shrug*

I used it for my Atari 2600 and NES roms. Because I was having trouble getting Z26 and Nester to read zip files. Once unzipped, everything worked great.

Oh the world of GUI interfaces. DOS pkunzip wasone of the origanel compression tools and it could handle an entire directory of zips to be unzipped at one time...

winRAR allows you to unzip multiple zip files. I use this program for everything compression related. Much better than winZIP

CitznFish is right. Plus, WinRAR gives you the ability to unzip multiple archies into their own directory with the same name as the zip filename anyway.
Best archiving/unarchiving utility I've ever used. By far.

Winzip will unzip multiple files at once.
You select them all in windows explorer, right click somewhere in the highlighted area and then in the pop-up menu choose winzip -> extract to (here)...

winace does the same thing too.
