Title: mame hyperspin and maximus arcade parent rom game list?
Post by: shateredsoul on February 28, 2010, 10:41:15 pm
Hi Everyone,

So.. I was wondering if anyone already knew of any game lists for hyperspin or maximus arcade (or both) that only had the parent roms? I hate going through hyperspin and seeing the same game 5 or 7 times (because of the clones and other  country versions).

Oh and by game list.. I think I mean the xml list, the list that the front ends read to show which games they will list.  I think a list made on one pc should work on any other pc since mame has a very specific naming structure.

I would appreciate any help or pointers.. with the new hyperspin coming out I would love to have a clean game list.

Hyperspin 1.0 has a fantastic new option to only show parent roms. Much easier than endlessly editing my databases.

There's a one button click in maximus that makes it for only parent roms.  I did it so long ago I don't remember, but I'm sure it's on the maximus arcade forums.  It was literally a checkbox in maximus arcade.  Simple!

Does anyone know how to do this in Maximus Arcade. I can't seem to find the option.

In the launch tab of the configuration tool, add the tag -%parent to the end of the line

nope didn't work... it caused issues when launching the games (the games stopped launching and I received an error).

I Imagine whatever needs to be done would be done under the game list maker.

don't forget- not all recognizable games are parents.

pacman

so if I put parents only.. i'll kill packman?  :-[

I figured it out thanks to Delusional, you go to options, Maximus has a tab specifically for MAME options and you can click "parent roms only" or something like that

but I like pacman, and don't like seeing several version of the same game.. what to do.

yes.  pacman is a clone.  puckman is the parent.

there are a couple more like that, like make trax/crush roller is one I can think of.

at this point, I tell you to use romlister to make your lists.  (you knew i had to jump in to this conversation at some point!)

you can pull out the clones but add back in pacman and any other game you want, not to mention filtering the list down to just the controls you have on your machine, so the list will be less cluttered with games you can't play.
