Ok so i'm so in over my head, i have made a bartop out of an old laptop, but now im onto bigger and (hopefully) better things. i have been working on a two player cp and now after acquiring an old After burner cab.
i have a few questions,
1. the side art has big gashes and i need to ether take the art off, or paint over it after i repaired the sides. what is my best bet, (also i have almost no tools, no heat gun, belt sander, not a single luxury. :'(

2. my cp is well put together, and almost finished ( i would show a photo but dont know how to post one) its 34 inches long and the space between the cabinet wings are about 20 inches, my question is should i cut the cabinet (http://dweeb.net/afterburner/afterburner_upright.jpg) to make it strait up and down and then bolt the panel to the front, im sorry i have no real pictures to explain this.
the cut would be from where the red jets start following down through the E in danger.
Any help is good help thanks

Ruining an original classic is a damn shame ! Get yourself a generic cab for your Mame machine ......

yea but the one pictured is nothing like the one i have, its on its way out, and the arcade refurbishment company was going to toss it, so i picked it up trying to squeeze a few more years out of it.

First off, restoring that thing would not only be a much wiser idea but also likely much less work than conversion. I wouldn't even try a conversion of something like that. Like Level 42 said, I would just find a free or cheap generic cab (Midway put out a billion in the early-mid 90's) to MAME. Don't ruin a classic to try and get yourself a project to play with.

ok cool, i understand not wanting to ruin it, but the previous owner was going to chop it up anyway...
Ill see if i can come by a more basic cab
if anyone wants to trade a afterburner for a generic cab in the philladelphia area

Once you get above 10 or so posts you will be able to access the B/S/T sub forum here. It is "technically" against the rules to try to buy/sell/trade anything in all of the other forums.
Any yeah, even if you could MAME the AB, because of its design, I wouldn't count on it coming out very well... :-[

Well, just reply one more time, and if the rules are the same as they were when I signed on, you will have access to B/S/T :D
Also, certain established people here can sell in Main, but only because they actually have a real business and the selling is usually in the form of advertising new offerings. (For instance when Andy Warne or Randy T have a new product they can advertise in Main, or pretty much were ever they like.) I am not a Mod here, nor did I want to come down hard on you, just a heads up; that's all.

That is probably one of the worst possible candidates to Mame. Since you're in the Philly area, you should be able to pick up an easier to mod generic cab for cheap\free. Pennsylvania is a big state, but if you're anywhere near Todd Tuckey's place you should shoot him an email. Great guy to deal with and has a ton of cabinets for sale. (And slightly crazy I think...)

Of course the other option is Craigslist, however you never know who you're dealing with; usually lots of flakes.

lol that is exactly the guy i got it from. i live about 10 min from him. small world after all. one of his workers showed me around TNT its amazing, three storage facilitys packed to the ceiling with arcades and pinballs. a dream facility
