Old news, but still funny. Thanks for posting.

awesome

Hadn't seen that one before. Nice!

the closest thing Ive seen to brackets in a fighting game is Martial Champion, and its kind of a joke in that game.
That vid clip was hilarious, I had mixed feelings about the meshing of MK1 and MK2 sprites but it works. the best part was the very end.

Never thought about tournament brackets back then. Its pretty funny now that I think about it.
-
I always thought of Street Fighter 2 as being a 7 round tournament, with a 3 round playoff against high Shadowloo officers culminating in a fight with M. Bison at the end. It's just that you don't see the brackets or any of the other 120 contestants.
Mortal Kombat, I felt, broke the illusion by showing you this linear schedule. Perhaps you can suspend belief by saying that the schedule is just a visualization of what Raiden has forseen as Johnny Cage's fate.

Well maybe but perhaps you just fight their doppelgangers, ie, anyone who can beat everyone can fight goro and shang tsung but its unfair to pick on MK in terms of brackets, other then Martial champion (which the brackets are a joke) I cant think of a single major fighting game that uses them.
Also MK vs DK is freakin epic
