Title: side art, critics and/or advice
Post by: zorg on July 26, 2003, 04:32:49 pm
I'm on the hard way of side art design.

Using 1Up background I designed 2 fully vectorial side art. any critics/advice are welcome.
It's hard not to copy 1Up design it's so clean and equilibrated .

Note, on the first one, joust is missing the black background of course it will have one

I like the first one the best, however, I think the ostrich rider (I have no idea what game that is from) looks out of place.  I suggest you replace him with frogger.

I think the second one is too crowded and hard to look at.

I believe the third one is very similar to the first, however, I find the first one's layout more appealing.

Good Lucj

The Ostrich is from Joust!

You have to keep that.

I like the first one the best,

I know it's the best one, but it's not mine, it's 1Up's design.
I'll copy his cab shape and rotating panel, but I don't want to have the same exact cabinet.

humm getting rid of joust seems me as difficult as getting rid of pacman ;)

Out of the three, I like 1 the best (yes I know it's 1UP's).  The reason that works better than the others is because there are fewer characters crammed on there.  Pick one giant one (space ace) and a few lesser ones.

The other two look too busy - I don't really care for the shape in the background on any of them, but if you're set on that then that's the way to go.

1 is the best, 3 second best.  I fell the  same way the others feel, less busy = better.

And for the dude that doesn't know Joust - how DARE you!   ;D

Serioulsy, play a few games of Joust (not Joust 2 - Joust 2 is horrible in comparison) and you'll see how great of a game it is.

I would scale up the characters a bit.  They seem a bit small.
You want to draw attention to them.  You might also reduce the number of characters you are using so it isn't quite so busy and more targeted.

I like the third one the best. How are you getting these reproduced when complete?

a friend of mine is holding a small numerical printing company.
we will print either on transparent adhesive paper (side art) . either directly on lexan/plexiglass (marque, CPO)
the max format he could do is (5 metter X as long as you want)
it will print me the full scale blueprint of the cab

Hmm, I am working on my own custom side art as well. Does this friend take any outside business?

Thanks , It looks like you can make a huge print that fits the whole cab.
