Title: 'Light' Guns that work with LCD/Plasma Displays?
Post by: Alpha17X on February 22, 2010, 08:51:01 pm
I'm building a new cabinet, have been for a while. it's vewlix style and I want it to do everything, possible. I want it to have light gun capability but traditional lightguns as most of us know, don't really work well with LCD and Plasma screens, which is what the cabinet in question uses.  Is anyone aware of a PC gun that would work with such a screen. if I really need to I can just go hack two Wii Remotes, but I would be interested in using an existing product if there's one out there.

I checked Act-Labs and they don't seem to have what I'm looking for, unless I didn't look hard enough.

Like I said, hacking some Wii-Remotes would be no big deal, but if there's already something out there, I'd probably settle for that.

You will want to look at the Aimtrak

http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak.html)

It is available from Divemaster over on arcadeemulator.net.

There is also an epic thread here:

Title: WiiMote Light Gun

I'll be using a bluetooth dongle and a Wiimote in a Nyko Perfect Shot case for the light gun.
Monoprice has the Wii sensor bars and a clone of the Nyko gun adapter, each for just $2-$3.
The BT dongle can be purchased from Meritline for $2 on sale.
Wiimote are about $40, but if you have a Wii already, then you already have one.
Drivers are available on the web for making the Wiimote a mouse....  voila - a light gun.

That was essentially my plan.  I'm going to get an aimtrack too though, just to check it out and see what It can do, for all I know maybe I"ll like it more.

For those looking for one stop shopping for making a Wiimote Lightgun you could get everything from Dealextreme.com which offers free shipping

I have bought a few of these bluetooth adaptors and they work great and also bought the Black and White Pistols as well in hopes of fitting an AimTrak in there but I ended up picking up a pair of EMS TopGun II's from another member on here for a really good price but this was the route I was planning to go for the Wii.

Thanks again for the suggestion below Mike.  Bringing this thread back to life again to let all know that if they want a USB or wall powered sensor for their arcade, Nextronics Sensor Bar USB is the way to go (have it on Amazon for $21 shipped).  Its ideal for my setup as I need to mount this bar underneath the lip of my monitor bezel and not have to worry about changing batteries or turning it on every time.  It comes with an 8 foot cord so it should be perfect...I'll let ya know how it all works if anyone is interested

thanks
