Title: Good earbuds for iPod?
Post by: Frigo on February 22, 2010, 02:14:53 pm
So, I recently bought a pair of Sony EX85 earbud-style ear phones off of eBay for what I thought was a good deal. I've been very suspect of buying stuff from hong-kong (aside from computer adapters which work fine), so I found a USA seller who was selling these at a great price. Turns out that he just had product from HK, and was selling it on the cheap, which these earphones definitely were. If they were in fact Sony-made products, I'm very disappointed in their quality and design. If not, well, then I can see why they were so cheap. In any event, I broke them. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for earbud-style earphones that they use for their iPod, as the stock earphones do not fit my ears very well. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I am willing to pay a little extra if the features and quality are worth it. Thanks.

I just broke my gazillionth pair of ear buds so after reading as many reviews as I could find decided to buy a pair of KOSS Portapros portable folding cans instead of another pair of buds. I'm still waiting for them to be delivered from Amazon so I don't know if they live up to the almost too good to be true reviews I have been reading about them and have watched on youtube.

Bottom line, they better sound amazing because they look terrible  ::)

Those definitely look nice, but I'm not sure how they'd handle at the gym, which is where I mainly use my iPod. Still, I may have to consider picking up a pair for use around the house.

I picked up a pair of these Altec Lansing UHS306's (http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-UHS306-Snugfit-earphone/dp/B001W2GAAY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266894617&sr=8-1) from Buy.com when they were about $15 since my iPhone earbuds had died (again).

They are excellent quality.  I'd pay the $25 Amazon is asking now that I know how they feel and how they sound.  I'm very happy with them, and a nice bonus is the wire is quite strong.  The iPhone cables tend to pull and eventually kill one or both of the earbuds.  This is a sort of weaved wire and seems much sturdier overall.

I've always had issues with any earbuds staying in my ear, so I picked up a pair of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MX85-Sport-Stereo-Sports/dp/B001GSZAF0/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266950851&sr=1-15 (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MX85-Sport-Stereo-Sports/dp/B001GSZAF0/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266950851&sr=1-15)

They sound great and stay put in my ear.  I use them at the gym all the time without issue.

Earbuds are always going to be one of those things that are differnt from person to person. They will sound totally different if they fit an individual properly. The best earbuds for me are the higher priced sonys. The $50.00 varity. I have two different sets of them and I love them both. I got them both from bestbuy. Currently I am using the type that has the iPod remote and mic. They sound beautiful to me and are very comfortable. I have a pair of the $80.00 apple highend earphones that I think absolutly sucks. They are going on eBay soon. You just have to try out a few and see which you like the best. I would say go to best buy, and try the sonys first, but keep your reciept!
