Hi guys, I'm looking for a title to a arcade machine I played when I was a kid. Game must have been from 1984 or earlier it was in color. All I remember that it was a space shooter top view, space ship rotating and moving from the center of screen and aliens (or different looking space ships) were moving all around you (kind of like asteroids). I remember that you could quickly turn the ship around by pressing a button. And one more thing that I remember probably most important that the bad guys (space ships) in one level looked like TV sets with little antennas on top of them. Does anybody remember?
Thanks for your time

That sounds like it's Gyruss:

Sorry about the delay in answering this. I saw it yesterday but ended up being busy.
Hope that's what you were looking for.

From his description it sounds more like Time Pilot '84 Style (ship in the middle)- but I don't know if that had a quick change direction button. I can't think of any shooters that had a button to do a 180 degree turn or anything.

was it a color vector game.. It would of still been in the arcades in the early 80's.
Maybe Space Duel.. A great game..

No it's not Gyruss or a vector game. Time pilot looks similar but it not the game.

Turbo, any more 'hints'? Do you remember the controls? Thrust, shield, hyperspace, etc.? Did you fire in all directions? Did the screen scroll at all? Was it just like Asteroids in movement? Could it be Sinistar, Blasteroids, Star Castle...?
You specified color, but say it's not vector...make me wonder why you'd specify 'color' ..unless I'm missing something. Were there many non-vector games in black & white?

Well you could spin the ship around and fly (like Astroids) and shoot only from the front. With one button you could instantly flip around. I dont think screen was moving. Each level had different looking bad guys. One level had TV set looking bad guys with antennas, I think this is probably the clue that will break the case :) Game was in color and it was not vector game. Hanoiboi I played all the games you suggested but they are not it. Action was not that fast on the screen as in Sinistar.

RUN COWARD!!

nope sorry none of these

To try to get more specifics here - was the ship locked to the center of the screen, and the game moved around it (like Time Pilot / Time Pilot 84) or did the ship move around on the screen and the game didn't scroll? (Like Asteroids)
Do you remember the controls at all? Stick? Buttons to rotate? Dial to rotate?

Oh, you covered some of that above - I missed that when reading. Sorry.
