Hey all, I've got a hanaho hotrod (might be SE, not sure) sitting around here and I figured, why not use it in a project. over-all it works perfectly but one thing I absolutely hate with a passion about is is that when you move either stick, you hear keyboard clicks. I opened it up and it looks like the switches that click when you move in any direction are 'Cherry' branded.
Is any aware of a brand of switch I could replace these ones with, one that hopefully does the job well without clicking?

I bought some cherry micro switches for my X arcade - really quiet.

These should fit right in. Not sure about the joystick though. But definitely for the buttons. I'll have to check on that when I get home (I have these microleaf hybrids at home).

I also had replaced my x-arcade with cherrys...alot quieter than the factory ones...
maybe its the thickness of the top panel or something...
but those micro-leaf hybrids should do the trick...

Just for clarification before I order, does anyone know if these will work fine for the joystick itself? I was hoping to use them with a sanwa stick, I'm going to get them for the pushbuttons at least. Just not sure if I should order 8 for the 2 sticks as well.

In the past, Randy has said they are not made to be used with joysticks. I don't know if that has changed or not.

Check out the VersaMicroTM (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=71&products_id=328) switches for use with the joysticks. They make a big difference, both in noise levels and the way the action feels.
I have been considering offering a pre-modded Comp using these switches. Should have done it by now :P

For a straight out swap, you'd probably want to go with the Versaleaf switches. The connectors are the same size as the cherrys (.187). The microleaf switches are smaller and won't fit the typical .187 connectors.

He said that they switches that are in it are already cherry switches, so I don't think suggesting a switch to cherry will help. :lol
Have a look at this:

You might want to look into the Suzo Inductive Joystick, Happ Perfect 360, and Sanwa flash joysticks.
These sticks require power so you may need to figure out a way to add that to your setup.
All three are extremely quiet. They do not use microswitches at all.

Not according to the website: "Smaller control panel footprint. Contacts are vertical and will accept standard .187 Female QD's"

Looks to me like the versa-micro would be a perfect fit.

I remember the arcades well. Dont worry about what your little ones could do by hanging on a joystick. its teenagers, and its also the 5 foot 300 lb 10 year old that will just kill a machine, or try to. also, your grown up friends if you dont watch them. I spent my youth in arcades and i distincly remember for some kids all it took was one quarter not registering to see them beat the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of the control panel and when that didnt work on more than one occasion i saw then take a running kick or two at the coin door.
Now that i think about it it really didnt matter that much anyway, it was their moms money after all.
this was also right around the time that operators started installing cameras. after that, the morons definately learned to play nice with the machines.
i even remember myself getting frustrated one night and taking a good whack at the screen. even then i never saw the point of hurting my hands though.
it wasnt until years later when i came to own a machine did i realize that that monitor protector on some machines, is in fact REAL glass, or i never would have thought of it. hell if i had known that back then, ida told the super determined to get his quarter back idiot that it would definately give him his quarter back if he hit the screen good. that wouldve stopped that mess quick. i had always believed that the glass on top of the monitor was plexiglass.

Hey Franco, no I don't mind at all. I found going from clicky to silent stick really cool and wanted to share it. I suspect sooner or later they will be available fitted with an actuator arm from GGG anyway (hint hint :P ). It's been said before but I'll mention it again, it's important not to overwind the adjustment screw on the Versa Micro into 'silent' mode for optimal response. :cheers:
