Title: Percy Jackson and the Pinball Machine...
Post by: wp34 on February 14, 2010, 11:37:12 pm
Took the family to see The Lightening Thief movie today.  It was actually pretty decent.  Not great but everyone enjoyed it so it was worth the time.

There is a scene in the movie that takes place in an arcade.  There is a "vintage" pinball machine highlighted that is based on the movie "The French Connection."  I don't recall that being a real pinball machine.

Anyone know if that is a real pin?

KLOV has no record of it, and a google search shows nothing. I have never heard of it either, but I am not a pin-freak. Like arcade vid-cabs, many "custom" pins were made, esp since the technology behind making pins is a little more basal than making video games. If you can get a close-up of the pin, the pin-freaks here could identify if the play field is from another pin, as the marquee and graphics may have simply been changed.

Probably there will be a sequel that is FAR better.  Chris Columbus sucks.  He goes so over-the-top with the syrup and the cheese trying to manipulate emotions.  But he's good with casting children (see: Harry Potter, Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Adventures in Babysitting).  If someone else takes the reigns you'll have the benefit of Columbus' casting, and a more capable director's direction.

I still can't find ANYTHING about a real one, so I doubt it exists, but here's this:
From interview at http://aintitcool.com/node/43968 (http://aintitcool.com/node/43968)

Beaks: I have to mention the FRENCH CONNECTION pinball machine in the Lotus Casino. Was that your addition?

Titley: Nope! That was Chris. I can't remember what it was in the script, but there was always a '70s guy. I think he was playing something like Pong in my draft. But I thought that was cool. I got a chuckle out of that. I didn't even know there was a FRENCH CONNECTION pinball machine! I want one now! That's not the kind of movie you'd think they'd make into a pinball machine. I wonder if it was a retro thing that came out in the '80s. I've got to look into this.
