Hi,
I'm encountering a problem with my mame cab, the machine runs Xp with mala 105.
everything was working smoothly then I decided to use the vdeo snaps (emumovies one) for the screensaver and snaps
instead os the snapshot.
first I noticed that some videos crashed the frontend while using it for the video snaps display, after removing the ones that causes problem, I secondly discovered that using the videosnaps for the screen saver crash the whole machine.
screensaver back to static images (snaps or flyers) no problem, machine satys alive and functional for days and days (it's never turned off ;D)
any idea of where the problem remains and or inputs in order to solve the problem ??
-
Same bug here, so I went back to using snaps! I think this is a known bug and is being worked on.

The video driver in < 1.06 is crappy ::)
Try the beta.

It may sound stupid, but I try to avoid betas :laugh2:
as a computer scientist I know what betas means :laugh2:
is the problem due to the video driver embeded on Mala or the video snaps encoding ?
can we use VLC or any other video reader instead the mala one for he screen saver ?
PS I will give a shot to the 1.6 version :D

It's the video driver in MaLa in 99% of cases in version 1.5 or lower.
I was suggesting you try the beta (in a separate folder would be safe) to see if it works for you
-
same problem with the beta, but it occureds much more latter than with the 1.5 version.
I downloaded the beta while replying then setup the machine and gave a try. it just happened to crash.
sorry for the bad news, anything I can try to help tracking the problem ??

???
Beta has been out for nearly a year and you are the first to report any such problem????
If you want please put the logging in debug mode and post logs thanks.

OK i'll try this when back home today

I started the machine with screensaver using video snaps, and let it alone, just to have the screensaver active. then machine crashed. I checked the log but nothing special.
log is available here (http://edeveaud.free.fr/MaLa162g.exe.log.txt)
I will use the machine, playing, idle and so on tomorow night.
-
same player shoot again ;-(
machine crash while idle and displaying screensaver
log (http://edeveaud.free.fr/MaLa162g.exe.log.txt)
new : an error when quiting Mala. :D
PS just a question, seems MaLa screensaver check for files ? any reason why files are not cached ?

Bugger :-( Logs don't point to anything really. No pattern. Are the files on a Network Drive? Does the problem happen on a smaller group on the same drive as MaLa. I dunno just Guessing :dunno

Dunno, I inherited that code. Do you think it is an issue? I was not concerned due to the nature of it. The screen saver kicks in when the machine is not being used so it has time and resources to do a fresh scan. That is how I see it anyway.

yes that's the problem, logs does not show anything unexpected nor anormal :banghead:
everything is setup on 1 partitioned disk
OS on C:
all the rest on D: mala, mame files + C: backup
about screensaver, it's right that it launch when machine is unused, so oosing some time and cycles is not a problem, just that having the same task performed is something I'm not used to implement :D

As I can't recreate this you might try different set-up / hardware / video sets etc to work out what the problem is.

Ahh. if it ain't broke don't fix it.

changing hardware will be difficult. I usualy use mac not windows, the mamecab is the only hardware I have running windws :laugh2:
I may try to get an old 1.8 P4 in order to perform some tests.
about video-sets I tryed with the SQ and HQ from emumovies and there is no changes :banghead:
what else can I try ?
thanks for your help.

Dunno. Your experience seems to be unique.
PS I am a Mac man too. I use a Mac with VM Ware to run windows for MaLa dev most of the time :-)

virtual box here in order to run solidworks.
-
finaly got the answer.
I gave the acces to the cab to a friend, for him to take the hard disk in order to clone it.
while removing the HD he pushed the cpu vent cooler. so the mother board goes overheating, thats why the shutdown was sude and without any sign.
I've sinve replaced correctly the vent, and everything is runnig smoothly.
I feel so dumb :banghead: :banghead: , sorry

Thanks for the feedback

I hesitate on giving some news about this problem, as I felt so dumb :banghead:
anyway I had to give credit to the roblem, and point that is not mala involved but that the problem was due to the guy sitting on the chair ;-(

I must admit I was perplexed initially as I went to great effort and expense to change the video Engine and after a long time have not heard or experienced such and issue.
Thanks for being honest ;-)
