Title: trackball placement
Post by: gazz292 on February 07, 2010, 02:25:35 pm
i have a golden tee royal/'99 cab, using the standard sized panel which is 65cm x 41 cm,

i'm only going to have 2 joysticks, 6 buttons per player, the trackball, a spinner one day, and a few smaller buttons for esc, tab and so on.

did a few mock ups using the scale layouts off slagcoin, using old shoe boxes as my panels, and came up with a button layout i am comfortable with, it's just where the stick the trackball on my panel, i dont really like golf games, so wont need to spin it like mad as you do on golden tee,

Hence i'd prefer it in the top half of the panel, with the joys in the bottom half, but i'm wondering what pitfalls there is to doing it that way, as most people tend to put the trackball at the bottom of the panel.

Attatched is my design in CPD,
anyone know if it's possible to print out a scale layout view from CPD so i can stick it over my panel to aid drilling.

Oh yeah, before anyone tell me i have the layout reversed, that's intentional, both me and my GF find it a lot more comfortable to hold the joystick in our right hands and use the left hand for the buttons,
prolly why i'm rubbish at arcades.... we were brought up using right handed joysticks on the amiga, and it's stuck.

Do you have a set width for your control panel or can you make it wider?  As long as you are not going to be going crazy with the trackball, I suppose you can place it about anywhere.  I plan on playing games like golden tee so I am putting my trackball in the middle with plenty of room.  But my panel is 30" wide...
