Assembly

This post will be a bit shorter than usual as the photos tell most of the story. The control panel is not yet complete, but I've now reached a point where all the components can be assembled. In some of the photos, the T-molding on the control panel can be seen. I was hoping to be able to fit the art and acrylic with the molding in place, but this turned out not to be practical, so I had to remove it after the photos were taken.

Other details worth mentioning are the stainless steel handles on the rear panels, and the finish around the cable ducting holes. The handles came from a local hardware store and make the relatively heavy panels easier to hold and move - especially the top one where there's no other way to remove it once it's in place. The cable ducting holes are located in the monitor shelf (to run cables between the top and bottom compartments, and in the lower rear panel as an easy way to run the power cable from the internal power strip without needing to install a power socket in the cabinet. I can also run an ethernet cable through here for wired networking. The power strip is attached to the base panel just behind the hole by its mounting holes and two screws.

Installing the monitor bezel and glass was probably the most difficult part of the assembly. This was mainly due to how hard it is to keep both surfaces clear of dust. I still don't really have a good solution for this, except to say that at some point, it's 'good enough'. Even after assembly some specks may work their way in there, but they're not noticeable unless you're really looking for them.

Hey, those look great, nice work.  Where are you sourcing the cases?

I’ve picked up a few Super Famicom carts lately because they’re so ridiculously cheap.  So cheap, relative to American carts, that I’ve contemplated popping the chips off the boards and burning US ROMs.  Particularly the Final Fantasy games that are $5 vs $50.

bill acceptors are coded for a cashcode type serial interface for the MDB protocol. you would need some kind of signal convertor to decode the datastream to find out what bill was inserted.

you will also need to send a signal to enable the acceptor to be able to accept bills... otherwise you need to switch it over to stand alone mode.

are you replacing the fuse with the proper type?, a 0.5a (500ma) slow blow fuse... and not a regular "fast blow" type (AGC)

This is awesome! I did a similar project for my SNES. I swapped all my NA cart guts to SFC carts and redesigned the front and rear labels.

Sorry for the thread necromancy (since it's only been like a year... :o), but I wanted to share a quick update.  I finally uploaded a 'showcase' video - check the first post!

This is really incredible. I just watched the entire video and was mesmerized. I have really never looked into any games other than MAME for my arcade cabinets because Zelda and Final Fantasy don't really appeal to me while standing up but it looks like you have hundreds of games that would be a lot of fun to play. And I'm not even talking about the pinball stuff! Now I need to do a deep dive to see what's out there... is there a list somewhere?

You should be really proud of this build - I bet when friends are over it's on the whole time.   :applaud:
