Title: Ideas in Troubleshooting a Williams Defender Arcade
Post by: caccess on September 19, 2012, 10:53:31 pm
Recently started having a problem with my Williams Defender.  Everything was working correctly until one day it stopped working.
I have checked power supply voltages and all check out.  When power is applied for the first time, the screen displays the image
attached.

I can get the machine to startup correctly (when powered) if I remove the IJ3 (Power Input) connector and plug it back in.  It doesn't always come back on, usually takes about 2-3 times to get it to startup.

The arcade machine does not use the original power supply, but a switching-power supply and the Defender Power converter card for switching power supplies.  I have already swapped switching power supplies and the results are the same.

I have replaced the original battery on the board with an external AA battery kit.  The bookkeeping information works and saves down the correct information.

The only other item is the 4J3 connector (Coin Door Power) connector that goes to the Memory Protect Interlock switch does not have power.  I have only connected Pin6 to GND, but I do not supply the +27VDC or the -6.3VAC to that cable since those values aren't supported by the Power Supply.

Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

I'm about to send it off to a repair shop, but was hoping to figure out the problem.

Thanks for your Help
