How about the URL for his page and what the chip # is?  I get a 404 when I try to go to http://www.st-hans.de/tricks.htm.  Have you tried Digikey (http://www.digikey.com) or Mouser (http://www.mouser.com)?  All Electronics (http://www.allelectronics.com) often has stuff that you can't find elsewhere.

I am not really sure about the statistics of the chip. here is the page, if you can understand what they are that would help. i am not very good at wiring yet.

Have you looked for a HCF 4053? There are also similar types available with different letter in front of the "4053", 74HCT4053 should work also I guess.

Expect the price to be under 50 cent for one chip! :D

I built that circuit a couple of years ago I bought all the
parts at Radio $hack . I popped the cover on my splitter and the chip has a number of NTE4053b
                      Hope this helps

Ok i searched a couple of sites, and i think i found what i need. i went to mouser.com and i just wanted to know if this chip will work. the number is 512-CD4053BCN. also for the t1 and t3 transistors, will this one from mouser work? 610-2N3904. it said on the page that bipolar transistors will work. that page is
