Title: Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade Flyback
Post by: Hecticducky on July 14, 2018, 02:24:48 am
hey guys I have a Mk2 arcade machine and the Fly back started arcing. I am looking to replace it but not sure what one I will need or if needs a certain one. My other option would be replacing the screen with a 27" lcd.

if this is in the wrong section of the forum I am sorry new.

I'm not sure if dedicated MK cabs in the US were made by a single manufacturer, but even if that's the case i would guess there are any number of monitors you might have (= tube+chassis). Disconnect the power, open the cab, and take photos of the stickers on the tube. The small PCB connected to the back of the tube is the neckboard; follow the wires back from it to find the chassis, and take detailed photos of the chassis, especially any of stickers or numbers printed on the main PCB or round the sides.

What is the make and model of the monitor in question?

Please don't replace it with an LCD.  They never look as good as a real CRT.

If you can figure out your exact monitor model (please provide lots of pictures) and acquire the correct replacement flyback, you should be able to replace it if you have average soldering (and de-soldering) skills.  I replaced the arcing flyback in my Hantarex Polo monitor a few years ago and it wasn't that difficult.

That's a photo of the cab label, which isn't directly relevant right now, and the tube make and model, which is nice to have just in case. What we really need, as Ken notes, is the make and model of the chassis. If you're confused, see my post above for more description, and then read at least a few posts down that thread Ken linked to, please.

Monitor = tube + chassis. What we need is info about the chassis. Failing a make and model, detailed photos will be needed.

I have that same monitor.  I had the same problem with the flyback sparking.  I highly recommend getting some desoldering braid if you don't have an actual desoldering iron.

The focus line connection to the tube socket gave me a little trouble.  Check out my thread for more info...
