As of 01 January 2018 I am officially a Major in the United States Army. The transition from company grade officer to the field grades is a pretty big deal. They don't just hand that oak leaf cluster out to anybody and this secures my retirement. Damn its good to be a gangsta.
Anyone checking out last year's chuff thread will note that it was just about this time then that the Army had told me I was selected for promotion. So did I spend an entire year waiting for the promotion they'd told me I'd earned? Yes, you're damn right I did. Slow and steady but she keeps rolling along.
Found out today that my old boss will be able to come and promote me this month. Was planning on waiting until he could make it to this area in March but I'll be pinning much sooner so yeah!
Keeping the hits rolling, I just got in some new tabletop games for the boys and me to dig into. Zombie dice is easy fun and King of Tokyo is going to be occupying a lot of our time. I'm an avid tabletop gamer but haven't added to the collection in quite a while.

I have a lot to be chuffed about so far this year.. Moved into the new house, got to take 2 weeks of my unused vacation that I was going to lose, my workload at the office dropped dramatically for a bit, and I have been able to get most of my new workshop in order and ready for the new project: the new home theater.
Before I moved in I got the heaters mounted and hooked up (40k btu gas in both garages), and I pre-wired the shop for music from the whole house audio system and got that all set up and running a few weeks ago. I had the electrician put in a bunch of outlets as well as a couple 240v outlets, and I have a whole 100a box just for the shop if I want to expand that. I spent a few days last week while on vacation building the workbench, wiring the compressor and dust collection (converted a 50A outlet to 2 20A outlets), running the dust collection lines and setting up the remote blast gates, getting the dust filtration and air hose mounted on the ceiling, upgrading lighting, building a lot of shelving, and even doing some unpacking and organizing. I still have 6 crates of tools and stuff to unpack, some cleanup to do, a little more wiring, some more shelving, storage for sheet wood, and a ton of shelves in the main garage to build, but I have 90% of the work done and the shop is functional. Got music, air, dust control, heat, about 50k lumens of light, and power.

I would sooner shoot myself than have a 3 hour commute.. Unless I was making about a half mil a year, then it might be worth it... for a few years anyway.

That's not a workshop. There isn't sawdust or tools or various parts thrown all over the place from the 8 projects you are working on at the same time. ;)lol, this is the "clean" picture with only about 15% of my stuff unpacked and most of the sawdust either in the dust collection bag or swept into a pile already. Give it a few weeks when I am full swing into the new theater and 18 sheets of MDF into building backer boxes and subwoofer enclosures... Each of the 6 subs will take 2 4x8 sheets each... I figure if I start really clean and organized I can make it a few weeks before I injure myself tripping over tools, scrap wood, and half built enclosures...
BTW, I already regret not spending more and pushing the wall out further. This is 18'x22' and I wish I had gone for at least 22'x22' now. I will build a shed on the other side of the wall in the summer though, and move the compressor and dust collection to it, freeing up a corner and a TON of noise...

The apartment I was living in while building the new house is just 3 miles from work and I was filling up every 12-14 days. I gassed up 2 weeks ago and still have over half a tank right now. More than half that fuel was used to go to Home Depot and Lowes over the last couple weeks. I don't think I have driven further than 2 miles from home/work since Christmas. It is so nice...

As for the commute topic, I can relate too. For 17 years, I commuted for over an hour each way to work, before finally deciding 6 years ago to move closer. I spent tons of $$ on tolls and gas, not to mention mileage on car. Sure it was cheaper for the house, but the other expenses to commute negated that. Plus I spent a lot of time travelling.
Now I'm now only a 10 minute drive to my job. The rent prices are pretty high here, but I don't spend money on gas and tolls and such and I actually get to have more time with my family (and the hobby). Eventually I bought my place (2 years ago) and I pay about $1,100 mortgage for 2,048 square feet. That's saying a lot (in CT where it's damn expensive to live) since I could easily rent my place out for $3,000 a month since I'm near everything and only a short train ride to Manhattan. The only downside is I don't have a garage to work on my games. But I do have a backyard - It's just a pain to move everything outside all the time. But in 2 years, I'm going to buy a house with a garage and pay the mortgage with the rent I'm getting from this place. :applaud:
Lastly, I'm super chuffed that USA Today is coming over today with a film crew to shoot a story on how my fiancee survived post-partum pre-eclampsia that led to a brain aneurism in the summer of 2016 (shortly after giving birth to our daughter). She is 100% recovered and doctors are stumped on how she not only survived, but made a full recovery without any side effects.
All in all, I'm thankful every day for what I have. And I'm feeling chuffed in the new year.

Necro-ing my old account and coming back into the hobby after several years away from my cabs. Last time I was working on my games was mid-2011, while I was in the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of college. Since then, my cabs were moved and stored, went through a 6 inch flood, and moved again. They need a fair amount of TLC, but nothing I hadn't already done once before!
Since those last posts around here, I've graduated, switched jobs twice within my field of choice into a comfortable wage, gotten engaged to my girlfriend of nearly 7 years, adopted a dog, and am actively working on sealing the deal on a house down the street with plenty of room to re-restore and rebuild my basement arcade! I've got a soft promise of a promotion this year and an IOU from the fiance for one pin with a value similar to her engagement ring :laugh:
Weird to be back - I wasn't terribly social, but I definitely knew some names and faces around the forum. The majority of my posts and restores were from high school! Feels like a lifetime ago, but I'm really excited to get back into this. Nice to see that this place is still alive and healthy!

I live in Delaware but I currently work in Pennsylvania , now I'll live and work in the same state, hence the shorter commute. Its still going to suck because I'll be on the only major highway right at 5pm every day. Good news for you guys is, I probably wont be on the forums very much during the day.

There's like 10 switches on the playfield on Comet. Chop, chop.
As for the ramps, you probably need to take apart the solenoid mechanisms and clean them. Gottlieb machines of that era are way overbuilt and maintenance should be easy. You might also be having problems with their weird smart switches, but those can be replaced with regular leaf switches. If they do anything at all, then your logic and wiring are good.
Another thing to look at might be switches (or optos? Can't remember what it used..) further down the ramp. Your ball enters the ramp, hits a switch, starts up a sound/animation, and as it goes down the ramp it'll trigger a second switch to let the game know you've successfully completed the shot. If that isn't happening, your stargate ramps are going to act up. Williams 90s games usually had a third switch halfway down the ramp but Gottlieb/DE only had them at entrance and exit.

SFII has just been a nightmare. I replaced the full assemblies on both ramps including coils, even replaced the factory board with a Rotten Dog replacement, and there's still fuckery afoot. Good news is my LW3 baords should be back any day now!

STTNG had just under 12k machines produced... 25 years ago.
MM had 4k machined produced... 21 years ago.

MM has over 1400 reviews. STTNG has 770 reviews. Half as many...
There are just over 1450 STTNG machines on Pinside's pinmap, and around 1250 original MM machines. STTNG has suffered much higher casualties to time than MM has.
I'll walk up and play any STTNG I see in the wild. I enjoy the table. But it is far from popular, when there are well over 20 other titles that have more people taking time to review the machine.
You don't hear of a STTNG remake happening... because it's not popular.

I have recently had body strength on my mind as I have been doing some projects that require some muscle. In my 20's and 30's I regularly worked with sheets of MDF (100-120 lbs per sheet). I could grab a sheet, carry it to a saw, and prop it up and rip it without help. A couple weeks ago I picked up 10 sheets for my theater project and I struggled to even help my son lift them in and out of the truck. I could barely drag them around the shop let alone pick one up! And I picked up some 5/8 drywall, and the two sheet stacks are crazy heavy, and even with help I was struggling. Again in my youth I was tasked with moving an 8 foot high stack of 4x12 5/8 drywall and I moved it all by myself, two sheets at a time. Today I couldn't even lift one of those sheets without help. And I am not that old!
The last few times I had to dead lift something over a couple hundred pounds I hurt my back, or shoulder, or some muscle or joint. Any more the thought of going to lift things on purpose makes me sick to my stomach, I can't even think about going to a gym to lift stuff.

He came to Billings (pop 100k) and sold out 5 shows over one weekend (~18k people per show). I went to the last one, which started at 6:30pm, and he said he would play all night if the audience wanted since he didn't have another show for a few days, and I left at 11pm and heard that he played til 1 am... I gotta give him some respect for that.

Is that maxing or for rep? My back is too important and fuckered up for maxing. I’m repping 225x8 for 4 sets on the regular. My goal for May is to be doing that at 315.
I also abandoned the straight bar long ago. That way lie injuries. Hex bar only for this buckaroo.
My lifting buddy just hit 295 this past week. The universe shivered. His max in Iraq when we were all young dumb and full of *the Holy Spirit* (he’s a Chaplain) was 405. But that’s a young mans game, ain’t nobody got time for that.

At 225, I usually do 4 sets of 7 reps. Guy that trained me wasn’t fan of single max lifts. Deadlifts and squats every damn day with that guy. Now that I’ve sent him back to his home planet Mexico, I’m working more on upper body. Bench press and bicep curl weights are pathetic.
I know an ex NFL player in his 70s that deadlifts 500lb several times a week. Keeps my ego in check.

Doing a couple of things I haven't gotten around to yet. I soft-modded the PSP and re-flashed my Saturn's pro action replay. Still gotta do the Vita and then I'll tackle the problem of my super everdrive and ed64 having funky carts shells and the pro action replay being grey on an all black console. Hopefully I'll have another burst of energy to get it done as I haven't been too well lately.

This has me chuffed for multiple reasons.
1. My kitchen is decent sized, but it is walled off from the rest of the house. I am going to knock down two walls and open the kitchen up into the living room.
2. I love demolition work.
3. The new kitchen / living room is going to include a dozen new arcade cabinets (acquired over time), and two gaming tables for board games and card games.
4. My appliances are dated. One oven in my double oven hasn't worked in years. My electric range is all beat up. My refrigerator is too small.
I have a lot of gatherings at my house. This is an improvement I should have done years ago.
April is a chufftastic month for me. I am psyched for Zapcon and the Midwest Gaming Classic.

I remember looking on eBay in the early 2000s and seeing a “MACROSS PLUS JAMMA PCB!!1!” for $50. I didn’t know what was so I passed. You could get almost 10 times that amount for it now.

If you’re handy and patient you can rebuild and flip your way up to some pretty decent pins. 800-1k initial investment and repair costs spread over months as hobby expenditures. I usually make 500-1000 on pin flips. It’s amazig what you can do to the price just by making all the lights work.

Oh, shut it. I've been hearing that "it's out there, you're just looking in the wrong place!" shtick for almost 20 years. Thrifty nickle, ebay, craig's list, and countless others I've forgotten are always deemed the 'wrong' place. Is there a conference where you people teach other all these stupid just-so stories?

Oh please, Jenn just bought a game two weeks ago (8 ball) with a monitor in it even. And it only cost 50.00, (and a 8 gal keg), for the mover boys, to haul it up out the basement for me, Don't know if it even works yet,....And that deal came to me, I don't even go look for them anymore, got Wayyyyyy too many already,..... They are still out there, though, and got to agree with Howard on this.
Yeah, so how can we magically get all these great deals? I've gotten some really ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up cabs and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but my last stint in dealing with a new guy had him wanting 800 for a pile of wood that used to be a galaga cab, along with untested board, power supply, and monitor, no controls or coin door/mechs.

720 is a pretty well known skateboarding game with a medium res monitor. Personally, not a fan, but its Yotsie's grail, so good for him. I'd rather have a silkworm and someone to play it with me :)

I love Crazy King. Moreso than Donkey Kong, in fact. This machine is going to get some love so it looks like a dedicated Cabaret and not the nasty bootleg that it is. I recreated the marquee art to make it fit, for example.

Dishwasher? GTFO.
The machine originally came from Northern California. There was plenty of salty sea air corrosion on the metal parts inside.
I also did some cleaning up of the PCB.

The jelly helped get rid of the solid rock-like deposits. The sanding cleaned the rest up.

I normally don’t spend this much time on a power supply, but a) I’ve never seen one this corroded before and b) it IS my 720 after all. I’m going to do a complete teardown and restoration of this game. I’ve grown to embrace patina, but not on this one. :)

All you need is a JVS IO board, I'd suggest the Sega IO , ver 2 or 3. With a NetDimm that'd get you Crazy Taxi, Jambo Safari, F355, Faster Than Speed, and Maximum Speed. 18 Wheeler wont work it either has a funny wheel or weird gear pinouts.
If you upgrade your Naomi1 to a Naomi 2, then you can add Initial D 1,2,3 and Club Kart. Though all 4 of those really require the card reader to fully enjoy.

There are analog pins on the Sega IO, you just feed the pots from the wheel/pedals to those IO pins.

Which one? Sega and Capcom both have JVS to JAMMA adapters (as do Namco and others) Both the Sega and Capcom IOs have 20 pin analog connectors.

The Pengo unfortunately does not.
I will fix that. I plan on upgrading the Pengo to a LCD and a Pandoras Box soon.
I also want to build a six player control panel to bolt to the front of it.

Why an LCD? is the monitor broken? Open Pandora outputs 15Hz and can even play console games (@15Hz). Its also kinda neat it'll barn door vertical games

What do you think this is? Amateur hour? My 150 gallon fish tank is on the right edge of this picture. I have 4 adult koi. It is going to be a tight fit, but I think I can make it work. I didn't think I had to mention the fish tank. It is just assumed in a standard arcade build.

It's at a point to where it isn't necessarily cost-effective to even bother doing things from scratch anymore. So there isn't much hobby left in the hobby.

No man that's not what I'm talking about. When I first got into this hobby the closest thing to a consumer level product were keyboard encoders like the i-pac and they had just came out. If you wanted a mame/emulation setup you either converted a cab or built one and you would get zero help from the industry. So it was a hobby... building the cabinet and setting it up was the hobby. Now there are commercial front-ends, patreon funded emulators, ready made arcade sticks and now stuff like Pandora where you essentially just buy a turn-key mame setup.That is all about crazy.....Just because someone makes someting doesn't mean it's over, You can still do it to,That and all that prefab attracts a whole new crowd.
It's at a point to where it isn't necessarily cost-effective to even bother doing things from scratch anymore. So there isn't much hobby left in the hobby.

Now-a-days you have a very small handful of people still doing this, but for the most part your average joe-shmo just getting into the hobby now is going to just buy a pre-built cabinet kit, slap on some "photochopped" mismatched artwork on it, fit an all-in-one software solution into them and be happy with that. Either that or they just copy that ---fracking--- Flynn cabinet, which is propagating that poorly designed CP every single time.
The hobby has definitely become "vanilla", but the problem isn't really the marketable/commercialization of it, the problem is the hobbyists are a different breed/age-group now. People are lazier these days, or fearful of failure that they take the easy short-cuts to get a functional cabinet put together. Or they lack vision or the experience of the old arcade days (I'm looking at you, millennial trendsters). It's like the hobby lost it's edge. There is no real pre-thought put into their themes, or any forethought on where they see their projects sitting 10+ years from now.
Honestly I just want the unique designs, cabinet shapes and themes to come back. Something that as a whole is cohesive and complete. Not these samey half-assed pre-cut cabinets and bartops we keep seeing posted these days. Whenever I see those projects threads I can't help but think "why even bother posting a thread for this?".

I kinda get what H_C is saying, my standpoint is that now-a-days it's gotten much more commercialized than when I started in the hobby. But the thing is, there was always a present marketable angle to this hobby. Without it the hobby wouldn't have progressed. Guys like Andy (Ultimarc), Randy(GroovyGameGear), even John/Saint has benefited from marketing this hobby, and vendors have been supplying solutions for getting our projects completed for a long time now. Mind, they're not all-in-one solutions like we have now, but the point is there was always a commercial/marketable side to this hobby. It's just more prevalent and larger scoped these days due to more and more people getting into the scene. To say that this is a new thing is naive.

They also pay me for getting in "around" 10am, and leaving "around" 5pm, while taking sometimes 2 hour lunch which is also paid time. Basically, in the games industry, completed tasks > time spent. Which is why sometimes you hear stories of game devs putting in a lot of OT when it's crunch-time for delivery dates.

But thanks, James, even if that statement comes with condescension.
Don’t get me wrong, I do spend my leisure time with friends and family, but I also see the value is spending an hour with co-workers in a social capacity to help build team relationships and foster a healthy work culture. Beers attached is a good incentive as well.
People that don’t work in a team atmosphere might not understand this.
And the OT at the company I’m at is very seldom, but it does happen. It’s all part of software development, there are some things you just can’t plan for.

Wings were freaking amazing. Marinated in Italian dressing. Dredged in flour mixed with slap ya mama white pepper blend. Fried. Put in oven at 250 for a bit just to make sure, and then tossed in butter and Louisiana hot sauce. The face of God was touched tonight.

Apparently it was national home brew day or some BS. Crashed two shops and ate free food and drank free beer. Then off to an actual brewery arcade for a bit. I played Rampage, Simpson’s, Duck Hunt, and 720.
Then off for tacos and texting pictures of them to all the Hispanics in my address book. I love the Hispanics.
Parts arrived, so I whipped out the shop vac desoldering iron. I’ve replaced every component associated with a row of lights on my Firepower and no change. :-\ I did get a nonfunctional column working which was nice but not so gameplay essential.
Second batch of wings toasting in the oven.
Tomorrow for Sober Sunday I’m going to attempt building and getting a cabinet functional in 1 day.

Well, didn’t end up building a cabinet, but I did swap two E Stiks that I have hated for 12 years with some cheap chinese junk. Gotta love China... $15 for a joystick, or $18 for the joystick, buttons, and encoder. Delivered on a Sunday by Amazon. And they’re still way better than those damn E Stiks.
First time I ever used threaded inserts, too. Man.... everything else I’ve done feels amateurish now.

Today I feel good, I have successfully completed 20 Years of Married Life and still want to spend time with my wife. Now if only I could stop her spending all my money I may be able to start saving for a renewal ceremony in 5 years time when we get to Silver wedding anniversary and turn 50 in the same 4 week period. I hope your mom's recovery is going well.
She is Mike. Thank you. She was a CCU nurse for years so when she had shortness of breath she knew something was wrong. Her and dad went to the emergency room right away. She had a saddle pulmonary embolism (blockage) which straddles the pulmonary trunk that goes into the heart. It only occurs in 2.6% of all pulmonary embolisms but it can be fatal if not caught. They put blood thinners through a drip line right onto the blockage for the first 3 days in the ICU then once it broke up she was released and placed on oral blood thinners. It was scary couple of days.

So, the problem you'll run into is that the game frequently doesn't do much during those events. For game start - how are you going to detect that? Every time someone pushes the start button? Well, that's going to cause problems when people press it mid-game, or press it several times in a row, or press it when there's no credits on the game.
Sometimes games have lights that only come on at certain times. You can use an optoisolator to drive a switch with those lights... but that's going to cause chaos if those lights do anything during attract mode. You could get around that by using the flipper enable relay to turn your sound board off and on, but now you're getting complicated.
Frankly, the only solutions I've seen that work have either replaced the chimes with a sound board (Gott Sys 1, the aftermarket PinTone boards) or it's basically been a computer that sits between the MPU and the sound board and intercepts the sound cues. Another option, if you just want beeps and bloops, is to use a Williams sound board and ground out the individual pins on the chips with various switch inputs.

The Roy Clark pin has chimes and stuff, which are cool, but I want to add some sounds to spice it up. Ol’ Roy is a great guitar player, and I thought it would be cool to add sound to things like coin up, game start, and some of the targets.
Too bad it doesn't award free games, you could cue it up to play "If I had to do it all over again"
Actually, it does award free games if you hit special when lit.

Super gluing hotwheels in a cab? I'm with you. Putting a pinsound board with upgrades speakers? You are dead wrong. ClownPuke colored GI lighting? I'm with you. ColorDMD/Pin2DMD? You are dead wrong. So yeah, its a per mod basis.
Take my Terminator 2 pin. I added a Pin2DMD (colorized the game myself!) , chrome bumper cap stickers, and a snazzy as ---fudgesicle--- T1000 to replace the plain jane plate in front of the pop bumpers. Not original but all reversable, and all ehance the game. T2 was really limited on art because the didnt want to give away what happens in the movie, like Arnie being the good guy. So Im going to be modding my game even more to bring in elements from the movie into it.
If yotsie is going to add an easily reversible mod to enhance the game, I'm all for it.

And every so often I encounter them in the wild... Particularly hilarious was listening to some dipshit talk about how I was ruining RGP or some nonsense and then I pointed out, "Hey, your FunFest is using my score cards." He probably ripped them out as soon as I left. :lol
They don't change the gameplay any and frequently clutter up the view, I'm not really a fan of them.

My next "mod" for T2 is a custom translight. This time instead of just snagging images from the googlez like I did for T2, I hired Opt2Not to bring my vision to life :)
I also have another buddy that might model something in 3D for me to 3D print, paint, and put in the back corner of the cab to add more movie elements.
I really like the Alt Shadow translight out there that replaces Alec Baldwin, it looks amazing. There are a deluge of just god awful Alts out there.

Problem usually isn't not just 1 mod but the whole list, and then probably some red powdercoating, and my personal favorite that stupid key start switch, So you can physically take your key with you when your done and nobody can play your precious game unless your standing there supervising, But then You buy a game like that, (which was NEVER reversed back I might add) and have to spend untold hours archiving the darn thing, throw handfuls of stupid into the trash, And finally have to go source NEW parts and spend yet more money on a game you haven't even played yet, only to find that DMD is like 400.00 and on backorder, but it doesent matter much, because some idiot chopped into the wire harness to add some extra cool lighting and it will take at least a week to fix that anyway, provided they didn't drill a hole in the playfield to do so....And when you finally get it close to beings done, you flip a board over only to find EVERY solder joint on it was "reflowed" improperly with a massive branding iron type tool apparently that's how to fix problems and bullet proof things is really done.... But that's of NO concern to to me because its not my game I don't care, If you want to glue a rubber weiner to Jokers face go for it, Just don't walk around telling me how its worth more because of all this newfound awesome. What's the latest Shadow alternative translite? I've seen a few versions. Problem with those is the speaker panel needs to be redone, too. It's incredible how much the translite ruins that game. Alec starts to feel oppressive in a small game room. Demolition Man didn't bother me nearly as much.

Used to play the absolute crap out of Last Action Hero. Probably the only game I’ve played where I knew the scoring so well I knew when to let the balls drain so I could maximize replays and extra balls. Translite never bothered me on that one but the movie is terrible. Been very weird to see people online going with the “ahead of its time” routine.

Nice. The "Proving Ground" quest is active for me but I wanted to level up to 50 before going in. I'm at 48 currently and really can't see how I'll get to 50 other than grinding. I have 14/15 trials finished (don't think I'll get the last one - it is too hard). I should just finish - I have a few other games I want to play. I'll probably start The Last of Us next... I'd like to play God of War or Far Cry 5 but I refuse to pay more than $20 for games.

My problem with Last of Us was I felt like the combat ramped up very, very quickly in difficulty before you really knew what you were doing. I got tired of avoiding spoilers, and finally just put it on Easy to get through it. A few hours in, you've mastered the combat and the whole thing gets more cinematic than challenging. You'll blitz through it even on higher difficulties...
Far Cry 5 is probably going to be a Black Friday purchase for me. Need to unwrap a few games in the shoeboxes before I buy more.

Downloaded a premade image, took out the stupid ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- like rom hacks, hid all the configuration options and put it in kiosk mode. Frankly fairly pleased with the end result.
Also hooked up a powered subwoofer to my World Cup Soccer 94 machine. Totally stupid but eh.

Made a Pi Cart today. After careful consideration I decided to use a Pi.
Downloaded a premade image, took out the stupid ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- like rom hacks, hid all the configuration options and put it in kiosk mode. Frankly fairly pleased with the end result.
Also hooked up a powered subwoofer to my World Cup Soccer 94 machine. Totally stupid but eh.

I actually sold not 1 but TWO AES consoles and a butt ton of games. A consolized 1 slot is a better choice (with a unibios its the same as having a home system) I dont have a big red but I go have a 2 slot cab I restored rocking a 1 slot board and a darksoft MultiMVS.

Less censorship. The stereotypical homosexual enemy Ash isn't cut, the female enemies weren't gender swapped to men. Ash is also a playable character.
More even difficulty. Normal in SoR3 is the same as hard on BK3.
Axel's Rambo like introduction isn't cut.
Bosses have at most 2 life bars, unlike SoR3 where they can have 5 or 6
The BullDozer stage has more walls, but the dozer is hit back with 1 hit instead of multiple ones. Makes the section less of a chore.
Better train warning in stage 4
The story makes more sense.
Thats all I gathered from my 2 play throughs of BK3-English
Speaking of translations........I was reading up on the Lunar games, trying to find a fan translated Japanese edition; Working Designs really screwed up those localizations. I thought the PSX re-releases were better but they are still wonky

Why is Bare Knuckle 3 preferable?
SOR 3 was heavily censored in euro and US releases due to Ash being a stereo typical gay.
Also the girls were considered to racey and sexist.
But due to the censoring they also hashed the sound really badly.
If you ever play SOR 3 you will notice in the first few seconds the music is terrible and sometimes the FX dont actually play.
Also some minor things like costume colours etc.
BK 3 is basicly the way it should of been before the PC brigade destroyed it!

I’ve been doing keto for a while now too. Never felt better. Down 30lbs and back to my normal weight. It’s not even that hard to maintain and I’m rarely hungry. It works. I’m not super strict - just try to keep it under 50g of carbs per day.

Went great tbh.
I had to reformat the SD card as it was exFAT instead of FAT32 but other than that was dead easy and works really great!
No more grinding disk drive or slow loading!
Plus being region free is nice!

I actually have 2 DC's now, I brought the one pictured especially for the GDemu, I was planing on buying one with a knackered GD-ROM drive but I found that one fully working with a few controllers (I needed a few more) and a carry case so I thought what the hell bid on it and won.
My other one which is also a VA1 is basically in real good condition, no discoloration etc so I wanted to keep it that way as they are cheap enough to find loose so I have just stored that one back in its box.
So yeah have a nosey on Ebay and see if you can pick up a console only or one with a broken drive cheap.
And yeah I printed the tray mod on my 3D printer, Its worthwhile getting one as it helps to keep the console cool by allowing the air to move through it properly. When you take the drive out it opens it up alot inside and it takes away the tunnel effect so the cooling is compromised.
Also I fitted a 300 ohm resistor across the 12V line to bring the temps down further, Some recommend cutting the 12V line altogether though.
I decided to go the resistor route incase I ever wanted it to go back to stock.
Plus its easier than de-soldering it or cutting the traces LOL

Thanks for the info Titchgamer. Is there a specific site you would recommend with information about adding the resistor for the 12v line? And what about the file for the 3D tray? Did you use the one on Thingiverse? I don’t have a printer, but there’s a place in town that will print one for me if I provide the file...
The resistor mod is pretty easy.
When you have the console open you will see the voltage rails (about 5 in a row I think) one side is marked as 12v and the other is marked as 5v.
Basically you just fold the ends of the resistor over into a small hook and push it in down the side of the 12v rail then the other side in the 0v which are the ones in the middle. Thats it ;)
As for the tray yes its the one of thingiverse. If you download it there is actually several versions which basicly consists of how many and the positioning of the SD card slots.

I tell you what, I wish I had a truck with a Tommy Lift on it. We tried to load it in my friend’s pickup, and his pinball lift failed. The OP drove it to my house for an extra $60. Worked out great.

Anyway, sprayed the underside with choke cleaner to get all the oil, transmission, and coolant off the engine. Then took it to a car wash and power washed the entire undercarriage to make it look like an overzealous pre-sale cleaning. Idled it for an hour, took it to CarMax on a cold day, they gave it a 3 minute inspection, and drove as fast as I could to my bank with their cashier's check.

At about 25% power and still 2 subwoofers short, the dishes in the kitchen above are rattling in the cabinets and the bottles in the minifridge 2 levels up are bouncing around, and that is despite major efforts at soundproofing. 21,000 watts just can't be contained...
For reference, this pic is 16' wide and 9' tall. The subwoofer enclosures are 5'6" tall and 25.5" wide.

The top of the right rack is for whole house audio, the rest is theater. Emotiva didn't come out with their Atmos upgrade on that XMC-1 pre/pro yet (been saying next quarter for 2 years now) so I picked up a Marantz AV7703 as a temporary processor until the new Emotiva upgrade is out. Amps are Emotiva XPA-3 for mains, and two XPA-5's for surround and Atmos speakers. Subs are powered by Behringer inuke6000dsp's, 6kw each (about 3k RMS measured in reality). Each amp has a dedicated 20a circuit, with 220v for the Emotiva amps and 110v for the Behringer amps (they don't make a 220v version here in the states). Overkill on the electrical power, but I wanted enough for any future expansion before I started putting drywall up. I also have dedicated 20a 110v circuits for the network, and for the pre/pro and accessories. NVidia ShieldTV handles most of the sources for the system as it does Plex, Netflix, Amazon, and PSVue. All my blurays are ripped without compression but I still have a UHD bluray player that will go in the rack. There's also a 24v 350w power supply on the wall behind that rack for the LED lighting in the coffered ceiling in the theater. It is powered off a light switch in the theater room. Eventually I will get all my home automation stuff loaded up and set up as well.
The left rack is mostly network. Gigabit internet coming in via fiber optic, about 75 cat5e and cat6a runs terminating at the patch panels, a 24 port PoE switch, a regular 16 port switch, and a bunch of Ubiquiti enterprise network gear (USG, cloud key, and 3 hardwired wifi AP's). I put 7 cameras around the outside of the house and it all terminates here. Also in there is a Plex server, about 22tb of external storage, and 2 battery backups, one for the network and one that powers the projector in the theater.

Oh andI cant see where your missing the 2 subs either ::)2 more going in the back of the room. Short and squatty but the same internal volume, same 18" drivers, and same power to them as the others. Also not pictured is the 4 Atmos speakers and 4 surround speakers, each are DIYSG Volt 10lx's, 10" midbass drivers with coaxially mounted internal waveguides and compression drivers for the highs. All the speakers were built in my shop, with only the drivers and SEOS waveguides purchased (all DIYSoundGroup kits). Subs are Dayton UM18-22's from Parts Express, and each one takes about 2.5 sheets of 3/4" MDF and weigh close to 300 lbs each.
Aside from hiring out the mudding and taping, I have done 100% of this myself, from electrical and HVAC, to low volt wiring, to framing and drywall (2 layers of 5/8" drywall with green glue in between, mounted on hat channel and clips for sound proofing), riser and stage construction, all columns and trim work, paint, speaker building, acoustic design and treatments, etc. It has been my life every evening and every weekend since Christmas and I am about 700 hours into it with almost 100 hours of work left. I watched the first movie in there tonight, and although we were sitting on lawn chairs, I was pretty chuffed. I will post some pics when done in a few weeks, the room is looking really good but I still have 80 cloth panels to build and a few other details, like hanging the 200lb door and finishing the air circulation system for the projector housing.

Never did ever really play it much however, cause the thing would suck up quarters just as fast as you could feed it, and Mom would only usually give me $5.00, which had to last like all night (including all the other things a young girl needs ::)) **fun fact, soda pop was only .35** pinball was usually the go to for stretching quarters, .... That’s my Bronze Age section. A sit down cocktail pin from the 70s, Atari Video Pinball, and Stunt Cycle. Next to the newest game in my collection, which came out in 1999.
Stunt Cycle is fun. My record is 27 busses.

Love me some old tools. You can't kill them. I borrowed my old mans router and a thick plastic piece came flying out from the inside when I was using it. Thought I killed it. It has been going strong with regular use for 5 years ever since. Todays tools are nice and light but seem to die quickly. The old girl is pictured below during my Nintendo cab build.

The guy who gave it to me has a whole shop full of old tools that he uses everyday. His band saw is huge and it is older than the jointer. Next time I am over there I will take some tool porn pics for Jennifer.**SMOOCH ::)).... Oh how I miss my vintage industrial equipment, I never should have downsized, the weight and quality of old cast iron just cant be duplicated in the big box store. The milling machine in particular hit me the hardest still even today, late in the nights Jennifer walks by the empty spot and misses her old friend, And thinks of all the fun things we did together..... My jointer however was downsized to a Rockwell 4",that has some sentimental attachment, and is so tiny and cute its really hard not to love it, although the rebuild took 6mos. and with the custom stand build was a bit spendy (more so than just buying a new Jet 6" long bed) But Jenn would do still do that again today, given it can now shave wood as thin as paper. and don't really need a big one anymore.

Oh my holy cats has it been busy, but kinda super chuffy too. I'm settling into my new job as the director of communications for The Old Guard, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment. Tomb Guards, Honor Guard, Fife and Drum Corps, Caisson, Drill Team, all those awesome specialty units are my bread and butter now. Moved into a new house, getting things squared away here. Have a proper basement and game rooming it up in style, slowly but Shirley. I also have a box of parts and pieces from IDS str8 out of Canada to start working on Space Base again. Kinda strapped for time, but as things settle down here in VA I'll start projecting again. Have my eye on adding some form of shooter to the line-up, and a vertical shooter cabaret - but not until I clear out my Xenon and get SB functional.
It's been a helluva a last six months but I think my feet are starting to get underneath me, the first few months were super un-chuffy as the wife was on the ropes for a bit with her health, but things are looking up. I might even be around this wretched hive of scum and villainy more often. Who can say? At any rate, if you don't follow The Old Guard on all your social medias, you should, because they rock. That is all.

Sorry to hear about your wife Chuckles. I can completely understand. Its a daily occurrence with my wife. It sucks to see someone you love go through health issues. Its good to hear she is feeling better. To add to the unchuffiness I was told that I had to be in Cincinnati yesterday at 5:30 pm before I left work. So here I am today through the weekend to 'save' one of our jobs which is on the night shift. :angry: So I apologize to anyone who has bought something from me in my FS thread I will be starting to ship on Monday when I get back home. But I will try to keep up with who wants what during the day since I know I wont be sleeping. Okay enough of being a Debbie Downer. On to the chuffy!
My little girl turned 4 on Monday. She makes everyday an awesome, unpredictable, adventure. I also went to my first CNC class on Tuesday. Learned how to use VCarve and a Shopbot CNC machine. I made the stool pictured below. Not much to look at but it gets me one step closer in using a CNC machine to create my upright Star Wars cab. Im also heading up North next weekend to Torch Lake to camp next Friday so thats good. That will more than make up for having to work this weekend.

V Carve Pro is the way to go. It is really easy to use and produces great results.
Yup. I won a free shopbot class at the factory a couple years ago. Didn't get to cut it out, but learned enough vcarve in one day to design an arcade control panel.
Easy peasy for 2D, stepped 2.5D and lettering. The class was full of cool people who made a crazy wide variety of things for a living.

My 3rd son was born (my poor wife is very outnumbered) and I got to drop my first son off at is very first day of school. That was great.
We had a blast at the wife's 27th birthday party. Got to see a lot of old friends I had not seen in a while.
I got some new tools for the shop including a brand new Powermatic 8" 2HP jointer with a helical cutterhead and parallelogram table. This beast has an 82" bed and weighs 600lbs! It was not fun muscling it off the pallet and onto the mobile base by myself by hand (I don't have a forklift or hoist or anything). Good thing I have been hitting the gym pretty hard. But boy does it run like a dream.
At my job, 3 people on our small team quit at the same time. I was able to turn that in my favor and got a promotion and a nice 20% raise (though it is actually less because I went up a tax bracket... 28% tax sure looks like a lot on paper). I also get to hire a few more people.
I started a new arcade project (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,158076.0.html). We'll see if this one actually gets built. I think I enjoy designing cabs as much as I enjoy building them.
I added a few new pieces to my Zelda/Nintendo collection. Nothing rare or exciting, but I love them.
I also added a few new rifles to the armory. I basically stole a brand new LWRC M6A2 for $1300 (these older models were hand made in the USA). It is the DEA edition too. It has a pretty sweet short-stroke piston system. I threw a Leopold LCO red dot sight on it and it shoots like a dream - especially for the price.

The wife and I finally got our LTCs (license to carry). The class was actually pretty fun. Plus, my stainless Springfield 1911 caught some attention at the range during the marksmanship test :laugh:.

Austin is the same. There are 3 breweries on the street that I work on (and another opening soon) and about 6 within a few blocks. I don't think anything is going to "crash and burn", but the space is defiantly very competitive so you see small breweries pop up and fail pretty quickly and often. Maybe if the demand for craft beer falls, but that seems unlikely (unless you think it's just a fad?)
It is like drinking a bottle of perfume. I can drink pretty much anything. IPAs are the only beer I really hate to drink.

Hmm. Maybe it's not coincidence that craft beer become popular around the same time as "dad bods". :lol
At least one of the reasons cigar bars are not around anymore is because they not allowed (at least in Austin). Can't smoke anywhere that is open to the public unless you are grandfathered in (yes even on private property). ::) That said, there are still a good number of cigar rollers and clubs in Austin.
We need to figure out how to get rid of some of these ridiculous laws governing smoking and alcohol sales.

Alien Vs Predator is probably the best one.
Overall, yeah. Weapons pick ups and drops are well balanced, guns are a part of the game with an understandable limitation. I also like the 2 DnD games but AvP is more fun. only thing AvP is missing, is a 4th player.

Played through Punisher while pumping my little legs on an exercise bike. I'd peg it top of mid tier in the genre. Too many weapons flopping around everywhere but it's fun. Craps all over Spider-Man.
For sure, its definitely top of the mid tier, but you can tell it was the basis for the gun play for AvP.
Simpsons gets flack for being such a weird IP to use for a beat em up, but the 2 player team up mechanic is really well done even if inflating balloons between rounds is silly.
Denjin Makai series has more special moves than street fighter and a lot of odd humor.
Revenge of Death Adder is the best Golden Axe by far and while a genesis exclusive, I *really REALLY* like Cyborg Justice. You can rip parts off of your opponent and put them on your robot.

I took my kids to Universal a couple years ago and we had a great time. They were 15 and 18 at the time. We stayed at the Hard Rock. Their system for early ride entry is way better than that fast track Disney had at the time. At Universal we waltzed onto rides and attractions with little wait time and we didn't have to strategically plan out our day. Disney may have changed their system by now. The water park at Universal was a waste of time. Too much waiting around. For some reason they had a different system than the other 2 Universal parks. We left after an hour.
I am glad you had fun at Disney. Just because I didn't like it, that doesn't mean I don't want anyone else to like it. My wife loved it.

What he said. Went to Disney and Universal in my teenage years..... Universal, while very tame was fun.... Disney seemed to be geared towards toddlers and perpetual 8 year olds. Keep in mind I was very much a Disney fan at the time and I still found it underwhelming.
That being said, just skip them both and go to Cedar Point. They have actual rides in their park ass opposed to infinate stage shows and have some of the best coasters on the planet.

Never did the water park. I actually went once before it was owned by Six Flags. All that I remember is that was very heavy on song and dance shows and very light on rides. Thankfully Six Flags fixed that ratio. Also, the ENTIRE place shuts down if it rains. Don't be fooled into buying admission anyway.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and it was at Fiesta Texas on Three Kings Day 2008 that I had to be compressed into a ride. Right on the heels of my wife taking a biology of obesity graduate course. The beginning of the end of my fat, drunk, and stupid phase. RIP. :'(

I like that one, the art is fantastic all around, and the shooting works because the pace of the game is pretty quick.

The NES version continues the fine Nintendo tradition of being nothing like the arcade game.
Yes, it's quick. I couldn't quite ever figure out where my character's hit box was. The voice recordings are hilariously bad... pretty sure it was the programmers doing the voices at their desk. You even get a nice loud pop when the mic cuts off at the end of their lines. A couple of the characters seemed professionally done, though. I guess it gets the job done but when you compare it to Simpsons or X-Men it's definitely a step down.

So 27" is at the limits of the largest equivalent arcade monitors ever made I believe. This unit has a clean sharp image, although if I'm picky there are some convergence errors towards the outer edges. I ran a DVD THX test calibration video to see more clearly. You can see some warping of the image in some areas:

I had it done at Michael's. They send me 70% off coupons like 5 times a week it seems so over the last 12 months I've been putting them to good use. I have one more to go (Camden, 2006) and all of our PJ souvenirs will be framed. The wife and I see them pretty much whenever they come to NYC (or Philly and sometimes Boston). I don't have a poster for each show we have been to - they are very hard to get because they print a limited amount and then they sell out immediately. Usually you have to decide whether to go in early or tailgate for another hour and that decision is always made on the spot and depends on the number of beers I've had at that point :)
It's a bit mental but whatever - good memories. I do have other stuff planned to hang on the walls (there is a MSG Radiohead poster down there already). Movie posters are in the works for Star Wars, Back to the Future and Goonies (the kids voted and I approve!). :cheers:

There were a few Deadpools there but I didn't play it. I've more or less lost all interest in modern Sterns. They've gotten very same-y and the super hero themes do nothing for me.Im not a big Deadpool fan, but the table was fun. I have played about 10 games on Dead Pool it is a fun game. I wish some of the shots worked better. If that even makes sense. I mean I hit that Colossus shot dead to rights about 10 times to have that ball bounce out 8 different times. And that katana lock shot is a pain tool.... but over all I think it's a great game!

I don't care for making this hobby more accessible. I say keep it exclusive, niche. Makes people really work to learn about their projects, gets them to understand how to maintain their cabinets and it keeps the level of quality higher.
All this hoo-ra for making arcade games more accessible is just biting us in the ass. We've seen it already, time and time again, and it's getting worse. Prices of items are now getting to ridiculous levels. There was a list of sub-$100 boards that you could get a year ago (and was priced like that for years prior) that have now almost doubled in price now. This trend of converted original cabinets with ---smurfy--- raspberry Pi installations going for thousands of dollars needs to stop. Or we see people parting out original cabinets for these pandoras/pi's/60-n-1 and trying to hawk those parts for insane prices, as if they struck gold.

Anyway, your point was about obtaining quality sticks. The Nippon fetish controls,as you do racially put it, like Sanwas are indeed quality sticks. They’re just not Happ Joys.
And I don’t know when the last time you went to a casino, but there are still MANY games there that still use push buttons, switches, touch screens, chrome t-molding, bill despensers, power supplies, led lighting....all these things Happs has in stock. They are not going to be in trouble if people stop buying Joysticks.

I assembled it yesterday. Played one game and the joystick broke. Stuck a wico leaf joystick. Some bright spark put a slot for the joystick making it a two way. I thought galaga was 4 way. Had to bondo that up for the spade bit, and shagged up the CP up a bit. Added two service buttons and wired them all to the gpio on the pi.
With the LCD daughter board and some spare bits, made it a nice cabaret for less than $50. That riser was a bit of a rip off. The steam link was overkill, besides the pi can stream too.
How much can I flog it for?

Galaga and Galaxian were always 2 way - wasn't until a bit later the games based on them ( ie. Gorf) began using 8 way sticks to move forward and backward as well as to the sides. Yeah seems the deluxe version is being sold a lot of places that decided to carry just one model to get some sales without taking up a big section of their store ( Home Depot, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc.)

Don't mind asking did you figure out which wire is ground on the joystick all I see is 2 blacks and 2 yellows.
With the joystick and other buttons it does not matter as long as 1 goes to ground - So if both yellows are from Left then you would hook up 1 yellow to one side and the other to the other side of the switch. the switch merely completes the circuit when pressed so it doesn't matter which side is which.

It's something I think about daily. I work in the Texas Medical Center and the experience will make one extraordinarily grateful for their own health.

Two other things in my life. Last night I went to a successful defense celebration party. And it was at a mezcal bar. Now I've had mezcal and worm salt and they were amongst the worst things I've ever tasted.
Also, brisket was $1.50/lb today.

On Friday, our CEO told us he came into the office with the intention of laying everyone off because we weren’t able to get anything signed, until about an hour before his lay-off meeting with us all, he received a call from a publisher we were talking to, and they offered us a contract!! Talk about by the skin of our teeth!
This was definitely a Christmas miracle, and has been a huge weight off my shoulders. I’ve been working crazy hours the last month, from trying to build up demos and pitches, to updating my own portfolio for my contingency plan in case I got laid off. I was pulling off consistent 14 hour work days, and sleeping maybe 4 hours a night.
I’m chuffed I have a job waiting for me when we get back from break, and I get to spend the holidays relaxed and worry-free with family. *phew*

Every once in a while I'll buy a mini brisket out of the discount bin and smoke it on a gas grill with a smoke tube.
Not ideal, but the last few turned out pretty good.
A few weeks ago I tried to do one in sub-freezing temperatures. I went by the thermometer in the top of the grill which in retrospect was a LOT colder than grill level.
I caught on about an hour later because the edges were curling up and the bottom was charred. The internal temp was actually good, but the meat was as tough as shoe leather because it didn't have time to break down.
Here is the reason I share this story: Supposedly a sous vide will never overcook because it never goes above finish temperature.
48 hours at 155° and my brisket was salvaged. The inside was still just as pink as when it went into the sous vide.
So if you ever have a brisket turn out tougher than you'd like, throw it in a sous vide bath for a couple days.

Wow, I had this kind of work environment for several years. It scarred me permanently. I will always keep a healthy emergency fund and anytime we have company meetings and some executive gives a speech on how great things are going, I never believe them and start thinking I need to look for a new job.
Good job on a restful holiday!
I am also looking to make a job shift. I am switching jobs in January and enjoying my holiday break off. I'm super excited about it!

One day, I thought, how about I blacken it first and then bake it.
The brisket caught fire. I put the lid on my charcoal smoker. The temperature needle spun around twice. Then the dial went black. Then the paint on the smoker burst into flames.
I went in there with long tongs and pulled it out. We cut off the ash and put the rest in the oven.
It came out kinda okay.
Also, Texas football double header. This is why pedestals are best.
