Title: Looking for Build Advice
Post by: Lensjocky on January 05, 2018, 12:24:24 pm
I'm updating a cabinet that I built 15 years or so ago.
Using a Rasberry PI 3 running "Retropie" as the new computer.
My Joystick and buttons interface via a vintage "IPAC" that I'm willing to replace need be, but works fine.
My Track Ball is a 3" Happs which interfaces via a vintage Hagstrom ME4V which I then convert it's ps2 output to USB. (works, but could be better)

I just replaced my old spinner with a Ultimarc "Spin Trak" which I connect via their USB interface. (Love this spinner)

My problem is the trackball sensitivity needs to be @ 255 in MAME, while the spinner wants the sensitivity closer to 30 in MAME.

What do you think my best option is to update and the Happs Trackball interface that would support the "Spin trak" spinner as well?
I'd also replace the "IPAC" need be.

Thanks.

Not sure how well they work together but Ultimarc make a track ball as well as the spinner.

I have the same spinner and its great!
But my ball is just a cheap USB plug in one that I dont use very often.

On a side note though why not update to a better PC?
A Rpi seems a step back from your current setup.

I don't want to redesign the entire control panel. The Happ Track ball was installed years ago and works great. Just looking to update the interface with something more modern.
The Rasberry PI 3 runs great for the 8 bit games I'm interested in. (Tempest, Millipede, Ms Pacman, etc.)
