Actually there was a Arcade version of Streets of Rage ;)
Anyways Hi Five my man!
I am also a die hard SOR lover (2 being my fave game ever!)
I look forward to seeing this come alive!

Same here... 2 was the best! Although I really really really like the Streets of Rage Remake.

Wow, I have never seen or heard of this! I stand corrected then, I thought I knew everything about Streets of Rage , Cheers for the education :)
Ahhh I am expecting a similar box tomorrow ;)
I love Streets of Rage! Check out the Beat Em Up/Hack N Slash gamelist in the link in my signature. Give Violent Storm a try. It's no SOR, but has it's own crazy vibe.
The remake is awesome no argument there LOLSOR2 was my all time favourite scrolling brawler. SORR was an amazing tribute to the franchise, and like you I constantly hope Sega will do something amazing with the franchise again.
My wish is to be able to see SOR 4 made and released...
Alas my wish has never been granted :(
Nice choices......?

Did your components for your bartop build arrive?
I'm trying to build this Arcade on a budget but if I have some spare cash I will definitely add a coin mech so the cabinet can accept coins.
I really was not going to add a coin mech but you have swayed me, just thinking about it, having a working coin mech would add to the realism.
Anything that brings nostaligia I am up for.
(http://Yeah just ordered a amp and speakers ;)) I was so close to buying a amp & speakers from ArcadeWorldUk, I went with a cheap 2.1 setup I found on eBay, it works great but really wishing I went with the amp and speakers, ah well.
Two 4" drivers/speakers in a bartop should be amazing!
Yeah if you are not worried about coin types or whatever you can just right up a wire microswitch behind the coin entry. The coin falls through, trips the switch, and a credit is added. For what it's worth - the coin novelty lasts for the first couple games for me and then it just gets in the way.
You should be able to mod something up so that when a coin is inserted, it triggers a switch and adds a credit. I can't imagine it would be too hard.
There is a visceral feeling for some people (me) when coins plunk down into the coin box. For other people it just gets in the way. I have three machines they all take coins. My friends have little kids and they love shoving quarters into the machines.
Streets of Rage is a great game, and the music is awesome! I hope you throw some thumping speakers in there. ;)

I do have a shifted input key for inserting credits as well though
Love Streets of Rage and look forward to watching this project.
Any ideas on artwork for sides / CP / marquee yet?

Get some big ass speakers! LOL
Never Return Alive is a great way to show off a subwoofer...
And the stage clear tune as my txt tone :p
PS to everyone, please feel free to chip in with ideas and thoughts as nothing is set in stone with my build.

How about an animatronic robot buddy that's always down to be Player 2 and occasionally puts out?

Personally I think the first one was the best but I am glad to see someone making a cabinet on this! I remember playing for over an hour the first time and picking the wrong answer on the last level. FACEPALM....
Also there was a project that was being worked on sadly it was cancelled

Post up your art in the art section when you are ready mate.
There are lots of good art guys on here.

I have a feeling you are too new to be aware of his previous commissioned pieces.....
On the modern SOR remake topic, The TakeOver on steam is pretty damn good, but is an early access game and the author didn't deliver his previous kick starter game. Personally I think it had a lot to do with the publisher he brought on board, but that's a discussion for another thread.
Great theme for a cab.
Have you considered using a larger screen and orientating it vertically in the cab thus keeping the form-factor of a traditional arcade cab and also having the ability to have vertical games in the correct screen size whilst also being able to play horizontal games??
Intrested in seeing your design I came across one online but to me this one looks a little busy
Made a few adjustments to the marquee following the suggestions.
1. Increased size of the 'Streets of Rage' logo
2. Removed small stage bosses
3. Added Adam!
Let me know what you think.

PS. Received some Photoshop tips from a good friend so I will be tackling the Control panel soon. :)
....and Blaze looks pregnant.
To me it's too Anime... I would cut the characters out completely. Revisit it of course for the control panel or side art. But with Marquees (and art) less is more. I would like to see the city background and the logo. Get creative with the side art or the control panel.
Hey, if you are an Anime fan then you do you! Build what you dig.... right Yots!

8 way leads a bit excessive aint it? LOL
Fans are good but you may find twin 140mm a bit noisy!
I would test it before installing them.
I know they say silent run but they still make noise lol

For future ref your best cutting both together so they are identical.

I read somewhere (found it: http://www.arcadecab.com/CabinetPlans2/CabinetPlans2_Cutting_Side_Two.html (http://www.arcadecab.com/CabinetPlans2/CabinetPlans2_Cutting_Side_Two.html)) that suggested doing a rough cut of side two and then using a router to make it identical to side one. Any opinions on the effectiveness of that technique?
28" is about as wide as it gets if you plan on getting it through a doorway. It's a slim cab. Just turn it sideways.
I screwed the sides of mine together, then used the flush bit. It's only a few small holes to patch.

That's a good idea. Some Bondo is a small price to pay for a perfect cut. I'll remember that on my next project.
Is that particle board or MDF?
That monitor looks small. Don't be cheap.

I think what Jim might be alluding to is the fact that the cabinet size makes that monitor look small. In a lot of ways, you would have been better served designing the cabinet around the monitor and not vice versa.
To get is super smooth, I use an oil-based primer and paint, sanding with finer paper between each coat. Using oil products takes longer though since the dry time takes forever.

have you thought about vinyl wrap instead of paint ?
27" is huge. I'm going with a 24" in mine. I don't want to have to turn my head to look across the screen.
I think the issue is that the monitor is just sitting on a desk with 1 side of the machine propped up and it appears that the desk is the width of the cab.

Correct.

Each to their own, if you are happy with 24" then go for it :), I understand your logic and it makes sense.
I wanted something bigger then 24" but smaller than 32"
27" it is for me. :)
My apologies N-J, I was unclear.
eep in mind that if the primer/paint is gumming up on your sandpaper, it isn't dry. Patience is key with oil-based products.
Why did you do the button holes so far back?I agree. You have all that space there, and those holes look super awkward right up in those corners.
Those admin buttons look rather close to the edge!
Nigel... you don't have to sand MDF. I would use a high quality primer and top coat. Thats all you need brother.
Looking great man, PLEASE tell me you are going with hidden hinges on that front panel. I literally cringed when I saw those 3 gate hinges.....
Not sure... pics are gone now too... :dunno
