Could not connect to the database
:(
;)
-
It's a feature.
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
-
who nailed the trapdoor shut?
-
My firewall content blocker noticed it anyway... possibly no more for me.
-
My firewall content blocker noticed it anyway... possibly no more for me.
that sucks
-
No it doesn't.
-
he's really messed it up now:

CRASH!
I think all the cheesecake is crashing the server.
-
bosss7 can you get on there?
-
It's up at the moment for me.
-
yeah, it finally fixed itself.
-
It's down again. I never claimed it wouldn't suck. ;)
-S
-
maybe you need to head back to your recliner so it can fix itself again
-
Looks like I'm done from work. ---daisies---.
-
oh noes
you need to find a backdoor to the trapdoor
-
Will have to do it from home.
-
Not working still.
Bloody hell. I have no life without that dump
-
Bloody hell. I have no life without that dump
one minute fine the nexti t's dead. I'm a forum junkie needing a fix
-
A tribute song to the Purgatory:
Tried to save the trees
Bought a platsic bag
The bottom fell out
It was a piece of crap
Saw it on the tube
Bought it on the phone
Now you're home alone
It's a piece of crap
I tried to plug in it
I tried to turn it on
When I got it home
It was a piece of crap
Got it from a friend
On him you can depend
I found out in the end
It was a piece of crap
I'm trying to save the trees
I saw it on TV
They cut the forest down
To build a piece of crap
I went back to the store
They gave me four more
The guy told me at the door
It's a piece of crap
-
lol I got this error now...
message_die() was called multiple times. This isn't supposed to happen. Was message_die() used in page_tail.php?
I think his php is threatening me now
:police:
-
He must have finally taken my advice and pissed on something. Pity it was the server.
-
maybe he was trying to write his name on it
-
My firewall content blocker noticed it anyway... possibly no more for me.
What are they using? Websense?
-
what's the link?
-
what's the link?
see my sig
-
I'll be damned. I guess Websense blocks my site now. Does that make me famous?
-S
-
It probably means you should change the url.
-
I have no idea how to change the URL... Short of registering a new domain and moving the whole thing over there.
-S
-
Just put it someplace else on the server... it would depend on if they are blocking everything to your domain, or just a specific root url.
Other than the domain, that url was really nothing more than the path location of the install on the server.
-

The entire domain is blocked.

-S
Well, that's why I asked. I have Websense here, and I can get to your site still. That means one of two things: my company hasn't gotten the latest updates from Websense database or 2) Chad's company has been watching traffic and manually added the Stingray Purgatory to their blocked list.
edit: Or option 3, my company is not blocking that particular category. Chad - what does the error message say? Blocked because of....?
-
It says "Personal websites are not allowed" for me.
-S
-
<company name snipped> runs special software to filter undesired and/or inappropriate content from our internal networks. This software relies on a vendor-supplied database of URLs categorized by criteria developed by this vendor. At times the criteria used does not correctly reflect the content returned by a URL.
If you feel you have reached a restricted site that you need access to please contact the I/S Help Desk at extension 2500 for further information.
-
Lame. Damn IT security freaks....
I guess using Tiny URL prob won't get around the problem.
Only other thing would be to use a proxy service like tor.eff.org, that unless Proxy Avoidance sites are blocked as well.....
Or do like I do - ssh back to my home computer then surf the web from there.
-
A company with a restrictive firewall sure isn't going to let you SSH anywhere.
-
that's why I don't look at the cheesecake gallery from work
-
Only other thing would be to use a proxy service like tor.eff.org, that unless Proxy Avoidance sites are blocked as well.....
That's what I've been doing for years.
-S
-
That's why I got into IT Security. I'm "testing" our cheesecake blockage software.
-
Yeah, the cheesecake leakage into nonmarked threads could be what did it.
-
Yeah, the cheesecake leakage into nonmarked threads could be what did it.
I never really noticed any leakage exept in the photohosting area
-
Websense seems to filter out websites for no reason whatsoever. You'd think they'd just block the entire internet and be done with it.
-S
-
I never really noticed any leakage exept in the photohosting area
It happened regularly. I'd be following a thread and someone would post a pic of a chick in a bikini.
-
besides your site isn't stable enough to be consided banned material
-
A company with a restrictive firewall sure isn't going to let you SSH anywhere.
Ok, another alternative is to use Microsoft Remote Desktop RDP over another port (like above 5000 for example). Only way they can snag you there is if they REALLY have the firewall tightened down to only allow outgoing traffic like http, mail, dns, and <insert critical protocol here>.
-
That is it here... only certain things are open.
Doesn't RDC require one specific port? I don't remember being able to change it on the server side.
-
It's a registry change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
Either that, or just do a port forwarding / translation on your router. Incoming port 5599 translates to desktop port 3389.
-
The funniest thing was when I read into one of Stingray's replies and it sounded like he was blocked from his own site ;D
-
I think he is, but he's using a proxy to get around it.
at least, that's how I read it.
Also:
went to Websense's lookup site, here's the bad news.
-
is your site down again?
-
What really kicks over my pissbucket is that my website has been blocked in the first place. I mean seriously, it's blocked because it's a personal website? So we're assuming that every website on the internet that isn't directly assiciated with a corporate entity or NPO is unsafe?
I emailed websense, requesting the reason why I'm blocked. I expect to hear back from them not at all.
Oh and Drew, I am "blocked" from my own site. I'm also blocked from this site and several others that I frequent. I don't let being blocked stop me from visiting them.
MC- Looks like it is. Funny how this all started up when websense added me to their database. Coincidence? Probably. Won't stop me from blaming them. It's websense's fault.
-S
-
so you are saying that Bush isn't the culprit this time :o
-
Websense is trying to muscle Stingray off the internet...
-
MC- Looks like it is. Funny how this all started up when websense added me to their database. Coincidence? Probably. Won't stop me from blaming them. It's websense's fault.
-S
Eh, you're partially right. Websense "categorized" your site as a personal site. Your company has turned on the "block sites with category: personal". All you can do is:
1) Ask Websense to categorize you differently (humor, games, etc) but to something your company doesn't block.
2) Ask your company to not block personal sites.
Good luck either way.

Well, like I said, I can get around it. I just hate it that some others are being blocked. Stupid internet Nazis. Bush is behind Websense.
-S
-
Bush is blocking the bush.
-
is your site down again?
I just sent an email to my hosting provider. I'd hate to have to move everything, but I may do just that over xmas break if the stupid thing doesn't keep going away all the time.
-S
-
just tell them about all my valuable post that your sites missing out on while you are down...
let's see we figure out a price per post multiply that by my frequency of posting and send them a bill
that'll lurn 'em
-
Didn't they give you an SLA (service level agreement)? AKA - your site will be up X% of the time. Ask them if they have an SLA and then ask if they have proof of uptime.
-
I told them that my very important forum is losing out on very important visitors.
SLA whatsit?
-S
-

yeah and we've allready been waiting a month for them to show up

They probably only try to access the site when it's down.

You'll end up losing money by sending them a bill. Charge 'em a dollar in case you have to mail them again

Service Level Agreement. When you sign up to host with someone, they (hopefully) sign a contract with you, part of which is a Service Level Agreement. In other words, we promise to maintain 98.5% uptime weekly. If we don't, we owe you a refund or, you kick our butt.
Plus some other legal mumbo jumbo.
See if they have a Terms and Conditions or User Agreement page or something. Call em and ask if they have an SLA. You might not, but wouldn't hurt to ask. Might mean some $$ back.

It's actually cheap enough that I doubt I'll bother with trying to get a refund. I am actively trying to get moved to another server. When I check their chart that shows which servers are down, mine is often the only one on the list. At the moment there are a couple of others (out of about 30) on it as well.
-S

I bet someone TMed Stingraysmadness and now your cursed

Foley again. ;)
-S

Come one give the guy a break.
It must have been a month since he tried to TM something.

I can't be getting my afternoon dose of purgatory. What's the deal chaps?

Stingray changed the password and locked himself out.
Everybody knows that my password is 1234.
-S
-
Wow, who told you my password?
-
OH THANK GOD! Ive been looking for a support group for countless seconds......
-
Try that search button. Saint just put it in last week and not to many people are up to speed on it yet.
-
I'd rather just bash into things until I find what I'm looking for.
-S
-
Yeah, you are the slacker so that makes sense. I don't have that luxury though, too busy shoveling snow.
-
I'm not sure if its really a support group.
Its more like a put-down group.
-
It's back again, but in my experience when it happens once, it will happen a few more times before it shakes itself out. I have requested that my site be moved to another server. This is getting stupid.
-S
-
I saw that it was back up, but something must be wrong.
None of the posts made any sense.
-

Passing through ! TADA ;D

Down again.

I don't buy it. They must have been doing this mysterious backup for at least the last month. I emailed back and told them that I think this excuse is BS.
-S
-
It's not an excuse, it's a canned response.
James has no idea what is going on because all James does is sit there and route support tickets.
-
How about Merlin? Do you think he's a real wizard?
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us.
Please be informed that all the services are back up and running in the server.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to you in this regard.

Neat. A picture of the server that hosts my site. :)
-S
-
There is a really, REALLY disgusting tommy joke here that even I don't want to make.
-
Appreciated. I'm eating.

You may be right about that Israeli slang thing.
-S
-
Please be informed that all the services are back up and running in the server.
Neat, then why the smurfdinkus is my site down again?
-S
-
What is the error? I am restricted from it.
-
Just times out for me. It's back again.
-S
-
I've not seen it down at all today
-
I've not seen it down at all today
So far it's only been lasting a few minutes at a time. Yesterday it was hours.
-S
-
Could it be something in between you and the server? That is common.
-
Could it be something in between you and the server? That is common.
You mean something like that jar of pickle relish that I poured into my ethernet jack? For the life of me, I can't remember why I thought that would be a good idea.
-S
-
Actually, I meant any of the routers between your building and the server building, but that works too.
-
Actually, I meant any of the routers between your building and the server building, but that works too.
Considering that the routers in this building were purchased by and are maintained by the public school system, I'd say that's quite likely.
How come it only effects my site?
-S
-
It would affect anything that may go through that router... remember, any site you hit goes through a random number of intermediate sites on the internet. If any of them goes down you can get intermittent outages to certain places.
-
So what you're saying is that it's Bush's fault?
-S
-
Why not?
-
I give up! Why?
-S
-
I don't see how blaming Reggie Bush is going to help you here.
-
I don't see how it can possibly hurt.
-S
-
Its down again...(just doing my auditing duty...)
-
back up ;D
-
So it's back up in spite of the backup?
-
Its down again...(just doing my auditing duty...)
ummm also you said "duty"
hehehe

Doodie!

-
Down again. I have taken a pomeranian hostage. I'm cutting off a toe every half hour until my site is moved to a more reliable server.
-S
-
working fine for me
-
Are you trying to get this pomeranian killed?
-S
-
teach the dog to attack birds
-
How come you can get in my site, but I can't? That's not fair!
-S
-
we banned you over the weekend
-
plus Saint stumbled in there after a few drinks... that may have had something to do with it
-
Oh, well that was probably a good call.
-S
-
anybody else having problems with purgatory today?
-
Yup. Stingray forgot to wind up the server again.
-
It's coming up just fine for me. Lazy daisies.
-
I'm getting a "CRITICAL ERROR can't connect to database" as of 4:45 CST today and I wanted to tell you guys something really interesting.
-
I would like to confirm the current status of the PP but clicking the link to that place while at work is pretty dangerous.
It's like juggling knives with mittens.....while being blindfolded.....with big electro-magnets strapped to my head.
Put differently, go to that place while at work and I will end up being fired by our HR Nazis.

bad response from server here....

working fine as of now, but there are a few unmarked NSFW threads floating around....so view with caution...I may have to refrain from going there while at work it appears no one wants to police themselves....
-
* update
bosss7 pissed on the server again.......
-
Yup - it was up for a few minutes there, then fizzled again. This AM the domain didn't even seem to exist, I figured the server farm burnt down in the wildfires...
-
NSFW adherence is critical.
-
Good theory, but the server isn't in OK, as far as I know. This is my hosts idea of "everything is working fine".
-S
-
Your host sucks ass
-
Yep.
-S
-
His host is as motivated as he is...
-
Maybe even less so.
-S

it would be easy to blame the fires at this point and then when the fires are gone blame something else

-
I don't know, I stopped reading at hello.
wow I don't recall putting hello in that post.....
perhaps I should do a search to find out the last time I said hello.....
-
It was quite a while ago and that is when I stopped reading.
So, you're almost all caught up with the jokes.
-
It would be easier to catch up to your jokes if they were really funny.....
-
Do not presume that they are for your amusement.
They are for my amusement alone. If you laugh, that is an unintended side effect.

kind of retarded to make jokes that are only funny to you isn't it....
it's kind of like watching the news and expecting it to be fair and ballanced....

No, it's like using a message board to pass time while bored at work.
Passing time by amusing myself by dancing around your retarditty.

No, it's like using a message board to pass time while bored at work.

you better reread the last thread before you go throwing that word around........
retarditty = PWN3D
-
It is not PWN3D, it is revolutionary.
It is the new tier of language that only the top tier can handle.
I may have let it slip sooner than was best.
-
you enjoy being on top of your tier....
I prefer being on top some cheesecake myself..........
-
Sadly, you don't get to enjoy life much.
-
And then...
Purgatory goes down again.
-
So we're calling Seph's mom Purgatory?
-
It's catchy, and probably frozen over, so sure, why not?
-
It also goes down on anyone who touches it.
-
My site's retarditty knows no bounds.
-S

But it knows cheesecake.
We need our own dictionary at this rate. Forget Webster, our language is Cromulent.

It's up again.
a little limp but up.

Maybe he's got that super top secret Australian server up, but my regular "Stingray-approved" model is, much like Stingray, not working ;)
-
Mebbe he banned me for my "don't click this link" link.
I prolly woulda considered it, seeing as how my "boys" wouldn't be useful for quite some time ;D

Hey, while you're passing Chad that rope, wrap some of it around your server. Or get your dog to put it on your back porch for
Boczxds "Harry" ;)

At this point, my host doesn't even respond to my service requests. They suck.

working fine for me...........

It's dead, Jim.
This sucks too. I was busy jacking up Drew's world while he was offline.

Is that what just happened?
I thought Stingray must have turned back into a pumpkin.

"The document contains no data"
it should be:

he was still online there last I checked....
maybe he broke it........

It's really simple. So simple, in fact, that people seem to be having a hard time with it.
When the box pops up, read it. Follow the instructions, and type everything it tells you in the exact fashion it tells you.
Directions huh? Who needs 'em? ;)
-
Instructions are fo losers. Just typein anything you want.
DOWN WIT DAS SYSTEM MAN!

Uh hello Drew boy....thats what I did the other day.....hmmm....I did register that day so apparently I did it right.......now it is letting me in........

Sorry about the extra step involved with the pasword. It's still the best method I've found to keep out the censorbots. If anybody has a better idea, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm having the same problem. Seems I have to type the password TWICE before it lets me in...

I have no problem with it.....just wasn't letting me in yesterday or the beginning of yesterday for any of my devices.......comp, laptop, pda....and YES DREW.....I USED....

PP stopped working for me at about 5:40pm CST. Anybody else having problems?
-
I'm locked out as we speak. Luckily, I'm discovering your alter-ego's site.

No worky. >:(

Server down. I think the mouse he uses may have passed out and the wheel is no longer turning.
I'm TELLIN' YA, don't be drinking anything while you're reading that site, Kremmit

Back up as of 7pm CST or so.

Down for me at 12:30 CST.

Sure glad about that forum upgrade. New domain, server, & software, but still the same familiar old service.

Yep, that was money well spent.

I thought random crashings was part of the service package

That was part of the technical support offered by the site admin

Technical support at the Purgatory is based on how much beer the Admin has consumed or how much nap time he has clocked in on the couch.

better suppoert than Dell has to offer.......

It's having an Admin problem.
The Admin is on a couch, sleeping on the problem.

It's been working fine for me today.
edit: a look at the error logs confirms that there's something screwy going on, however.
Oh well, back to the sofa.
-S

Goz is under the hood trying to fix Purgatory's leaky carb, which I suspect may be causing the momentary database errors that we're getting today. They usually only last a minute or two. Just FYI
-S

Shameless plug

Shame on you bones bringing it to the streets of BYOAC.....
;)

The streets seem to be blocked.
I may be forced to do something productive.

I am in contact with my host's support people.
We had an unexpected reboot it should be up in 1 min.
Note that this was about five minutes ago, but at least I know someone is awake over there.
-S

Thanks for the info... I've been going through withdrawls wanting to see what assinine statements others are making. I might actually have to work today if it doesn't come back up.

Phew.
Now I know how crack addicts feel.

We've switched from timeouts to DNS resolution problems. Is this a step in the right direction?

Did you see my PM? The bug in Firefox has a DOS (Denial Of Service) effect on the server. So the server is given a beat down like the ugly red headed step child and you get DNS issues.

Never mind

It is a problem in Firefox 1.5 only and since that is the latest version I imagine Mozilla should be cool.
-
Son of a dirty fushhole shootbag cork knocker bastige!
Started working for just a couple minutes. Gone again.
Goz- is this the bug you're talking about?
It's come to our attention that a bug in Firefox 1.5 is causing some issues on SMF forums. The bug causes Firefox to time its javascript functions incorrectly, which in turn results in a page reloading in the background many, many times. It's possible that some hosts may incorrectly flag this as a Denial of Service (DoS) attack due to the ferocity of the calls. If you are having problems with your server, with many calls looking like: "index.php?action=keepalive", then it almost certainly is this Firefox bug - in this case we recommend you following the advanced information included in this post.
To minimize the risk to this happening when viewing an SMF forum, we've created a work around for the bug which should solve this issue. If you are using SMF 1.1 RC1 or RC2 we recommend you simply replace the current script.js file found in your Themes/default directory with the attached file. This does not affect uses running SMF 1.0.5 or lower.
I got that in an email this morning. Purgatory is on SMF 1.0.5.
-S

Yep.... thats the one. It looks like I pulled a MissionControl and didn't pay close enough attention I will go back to playing with myself and pretending to work.

BYOAC is on 1.1, I wonder if they're experiencing this. Saint?

It's Bones' pic in his sig, I bet.
Every thread he's replied in gives me the 'lert.
Drop Saint and Woogie a PM alerting them of Bones' sig pic so they can tinker it up real good-like

He seems to have already pulled it. Bones, you can host in on my photohosting site, and it won't prompt for a password.

No, it still shows up for me when I go look at his reply in this thread. I think deleting your cookies will make the password box show up for you. I'd still drop a mod a note and tell them to fix Bones' sig to make sure

I was just about to post in your DNS error thread that everythings been fine... but since I am posting here that means that everythings not fine....

Sorry about the sig thing guys. Lesson learned.

The connection has timed out
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few

connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

you can link it through stingray's photohosting site (http://www.stingraysmadness.com/photohosting/)
if you don't have an account or to lazy to make one pm me either here or purgatory and I'll give you the user name and password to the SFW account.....

a small price to pay, but, hey I wasn't using it anyways.......

Do me a favor guys, if you get a DNS error, PM me the exact URL of the page you were trying to load when it happens. I still have the support guys standing by, but they want URLs.
-S
-
Greedy ---daisies---.
-
I've not had a problem once with DNS errors, but I had problems with the newer versions of Firefox with other stuff like Memory leaks and whatnot. I downgraded to 1.0.7 and haven't EVER had issues with Stingray's site since then, and I think I only lost the use of a single plug-in which, I guess, since I can't remember it, wasn't really that necessary.
Find it at www.oldversion.com (http://www.oldversion.com)
I've never had a problem with this site either, FWIW.
You have to remove ALL traces of Firefox 1.5 before installing 1.0.7, otherwise it'll update itself as soon as you're connected to the 'net. Don't forget to Export your bookmarks before removing it, and Import them back into 1.0.7 when finished.

I believe you may simply be experiencing apache restarts as everytime someone goes to add a subdomain, addon, or other such item apache needs to restart. It should not even take a second however and you should not be able to see this. I will schedule some update scripts tonight to fix any setting errors.
Support guy seems to be actually taking an interest in fixing this. The other host's support guy usually told me there was no problem and closed the ticket before I got a chance to ask any follow up questions.

Chad just posted, so I know I'm not the only one who can see it. If you're trying to use an old bookmark directly to a forum or thread, it won't work anymore. You'll have to go to postpurgatory.com and go through the front door.

Breaking news.
There is free porn all over the internet.
An arcade nerd site doesn't need PG-13 pics of girls.

That was the fun part, it wasn't nasty...I am thinking watching hardcore porn at the mall or something that would be just wrong, but the way it was I could log on check out some cute shoes and outfits, then go shopping.
