- Small Form Factor (SFF) casing. This is not as small as the tiny form factor PCs I sold a while back. But are still smaller than your average desktop. Dimensions are 12x4x14. Or de-case the PC for even tighter installations.
As the name suggests, this is the bare bones (for being an i5 chip set) system at a cheap price.
Price will be $110 including shipping for 8GB, more than half off the price at Newegg.
As of 1/4/2016, out of stock of the 'Modder' will update thread on a first come / first severed basis once final inventory is done.

The name is in reference to the parts used in this model. While the parts in the basic are designed for the case it ships in, the Modder is built with using industry standard ATX parts. This means the mainboard has a standard ATX PSU connection and can be transferred to any standard PC case that supports a Mini-ATX board. If you plan on adding a PCI-Express video card and eventually upgrading the PSU, this would be the model to look at.
Price will be $150 including shipping for 8 GB, an additional 8GB is $30. Again more than half the price of what Newegg would charge.
As of 3/7/2016, out of stock of the standard 'Portable'. I do have limited quantities of a newer model and will update thread on a first come / first severed basis once final inventory is done.

- What is described is the PC being shipped out. These are PCs coming off a business contract and will have very little warranty left or be out of warranty. I will provide 30 days support if there are any issues. Due to me not knowing how in the heck these are used once they leave my sight, I really can't offer anymore than that. But ask anyone who has bought from me before. My goal is happy friends in the hobby. If something should happen down the line, failed HDD, need a new fan, etc. just reach out. If more details are needed I'll respond to PMs and responses in the thread and update the main post as needed.
- These will ship ONLY with a preloaded and pre-activated copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. No other software is implied or offered at this time.
- Do not ask me what emulator / game / software will run on this PC. You have the specs and can talk to our friend Google for any of your own research prior to purchase. Others in the thread here as well can tell you what they have tested.
- Paypal is preferred payment and this will not be asked for until the shipment is ready to be sent out. Tracking # will be provided once payment is verified.

I will ship either UPS or USPS if you have a preference. If the items require a quote on shipping (such as LCDs) pleae don't ask for a quote unless you have a genuine interest in making a purcahse. I make no profit on shipping in these cases so I will do my best to get you the best rate available at that time. PC prices listed above with shipping included are only valid for the continental United States. This does not mean I won’t ship to Canada or elsewhere, but quotes will need to be worked out first. To be honest, I’ve told people in these scenarios in the past you’ll be better off looking for local deals in C-List or eBay. But I won’t turn those away that prefer to get their parts from me ;-)

No shipping is extra, but I get a good discount on UPS ground. When placing an order I need an address for the shipping quote. So far most quotes were 1/2 the price I would normally have to pay in shipping.

Just received word of one of the power bricks I ordered for the PCs arrived DOA. The first few orders shipped with my bricks and understandably worked fine. The last 4 or so were shipped with the replacement (but still OEM) bricks, so I'm awaiting word back if this was just a one time mishap or if they all have issues.
The PCs are fine, they are thoroughly tested before shipped. But the cords on my workbench are permanently wired, so not the same ones shipped in box. Trying to have some boxes per-staged for shipment was my mistake, so I'll be testing these bricks going forward.
Until I hear back from my other orders, I'm temporarily pausing any new orders of mini-pcs. I want to make sure everyone is properly taken care of (and my supplier of the power bricks strung up if needed) before proceeding. First goal is full-filling my previous commitments and making these forum members happy. Will update when I can start taking new orders.
Everything else, including LCDs and such is still up for grabs.

Just an update of events of the past week to those interested in the PCs:
- I've already shipped working units (some from my personal PCs in my home network) to take care of any previous customers effected. As stated previously my first priority was to quickly take care of any forum members and make sure everyone was happy before even thinking of processing any new orders.
- My first vendor for power bricks finally responded and will give me a refund once he gets the defective units back. I'll be sending return labels to the 2 effected orders to have those sent back to me.
- In the meantime I ordered 10 more bricks from a 2nd vendor, only to be burned AGAIN by shoddy equipment. :angry: Already getting an RMA on those, but frustrating nonetheless. Of course like Vendor #1, I'll have to pay for shipping these back for a refund.
- Trying a 3rd vendor and will be getting those bricks mid next week. Only ordered 5 from him, since I already spent almost $300 on bad power bricks so far. These were supposedly "tech tested" before being shipped out and carry a warranty, so we'll see once I get a hold of them and do some burn in testing sessions on my equipment. Once I can be sure of their quality I'll process the first 5 orders I got via PM and place another order through this vendor.
I already have the PCs tested and imaged for those needed an OS, so as before just waiting on extra power bricks. I do apologies for any delays in those interested, I just don't want to process any orders until I can be sure those will be absolutely happy with their PCs.

Between that and hopefully getting refunds soon from my last two failed attempts, I can start processing more orders again. I appreciate the understanding and patience you guys showed me in the PM's. For those not 'lucky' enough to be burned by anyone on eBay, I hope you don't have to deal with what my last couple weeks were.

At this point, I'm dwindling down to the last of the 7900s, so in order to honor any PMs I got to this point, and to get a hard count of what I have left (not to mention I wanted a couple for my own projects >:D), I'm removing the listing of that model.

I cannot test every emulator/program people want to know if it works or not. The PC specs are listed at the top for a reason. And as Rick so elegantly posted, Google is your friend for more details. I've purchased a 7900 and 19" LCD. It has been folding in the basement for about a week. This was the first thing I could think of to test it. Not that it is the prime candidate for folding. One of these days I'll try to play some games on it.

That's for the PC and power brick, if adding a LCD and stand look at the first post for combo pricing. Any others will be spoken for personal projects, so get these while they last.

Major update on my FS/FT thread. I also have what I hope is a good deal for anyone looking for equipment:
I’ve been sitting on literally a mountain of equipment that I’ve been poked and prodded at getting rid of. And the aforementioned ‘life outside the hobby’ has been doing a good job at keeping me with little free-time to tackle it.
Well a friend of mine recently came on hard times and his situation finally gave me the fire under my seat to get started. My current home life has me with very little liquid funds of my own, so I’m doing a run of 20-25 PCs steeply discounted so I can drum up funds to help them out. He helps me in getting the ball rolling in selling equipment off so I don’t have to stare at it anymore, and I help him in his current situation.
After the 20-25 I will need to take a break to tackle things back at home. It actually takes more time than most realize to coordinate things like this besides all the work in making sure everyone stays happy. And this first round is really just me helping someone else out. I have another kid due beginning of April so time right now is a hot commodity. But if interest is there I’ll use this experience to make some permanent low prices for anyone who is still in need. I just can’t promise the same price/spec, but I’ll keep it as close to this as possible. By then I’ll also have some exciting additions to give an actual –selection-.
I also updated the –what I’m looking for- section. If I do any trades towards any items it won’t affect the discounted run. For an office environment, Dells are acceptable, HPs are never acceptable. Lenovos are preferred over Dells though!

I fail to see what is wrong with the question. Gauntlet Legends is a demanding game and an excellent benchmark of PC performance in this hobby. I've been able to emulate PacMan and Samurai Showdown for 15 years, I don't need another "good for old games" device.

Also had one follow-up question. The intel i5 processor, do you know if its the i5-2500, i5-3550 or the i5-4590. There is a decent difference between the 3 of them. (Looking at passmark's site, those are the 3 i5 they have listed at 3.3ghz)

If (and that's a huge IF from past experience here) the current parties interested follow through on their orders, I'm just about out of this promo run of PCs. I haven't collected any funds yet from anyone, since I don't believe in charging until these are boxed up and ready to head out the door. Unfortunately (or fortunate depending on your view) work has been extremely busy this week and I have a very pregnant wife at home who needs the rest of my time. The goal is to have them all ready by week's end or Monday.
Those who I haven't quoted shipping to yet should get this sometime today.
As of right -now- I'm not taking anymore guaranteed orders on the promo run. If anyone backs out and more free up, I will take those who still PM me and let them know first in order of messages received.
This does not mean I'm out of equipment, not by a long shot. But I will need to gauge how much I can let stock go for after this run. As stated previously this run was done as a favor, and I have limited parts to make everyone contain 8GB of Ram. I'd like to keep them as close to $50 still as possible, though. I'll update once I can make the figures work. I also hope to add more variety in stock soon.

During *ACTUAL* game play (ie not during the intro or CGI scenes)
with the dip set to medium res (512x384) the game runs mostly at about 95% , it goes as low as 87% but as high as 100%.
with the dip set to standard res (512x256) the game runs 100%
Im sure adding any non super crummy video card will allow it to play 100% even at medium res.

ran Blitz 2k, 100% even at medium res. Cant do any more testing while at work, sry boo. I'd assume it'll run 100% on earlier versions of blitz.

Ran on Win 7 64 Pro
Used MAMEUI64 0.148 (jan 11, 2013 build)
As you know Blitz2k freezes at the first match up screen, so I based the test on the game demo of game play, not videos/CGI I dont feel like downloading the regular blitz roms/chd while Im at work.

Yeah they have a PCIe 16x card slot, so any low profile card that's not a power suck should work fine. Or full height card if you decide to de-case it. Thinking about doing that for a bartop build myself.

its a non standard PS. The one in my PC is 240W , which is plenty for an older ATI or Nvidia card.

I want to thank everyone for their support. The funds form these will be going to a good cause and I'm blown away that I got such a quick response. Thought it would take several weeks to sells through the allotment. Those who came through on orders please keep me posted and let me know if I can be of any further help. If you can take a moment for a good trade mention after testing your PC(s) that would be swell.
This is not to say there are no more PCs. Issue is I simply do not have enough spare RAM to make them all 8GB (they originally deployed with just 2GB). I thought I would be working on these until the baby came, but since I have some weeks left I will look into selling more. Just working out a fair price for the equipment+time going into this.
Those talking about specifics on standard vs. non-standard parts - the next model up (m91p) uses a standard mATX mainboard and PSU connections. So it can easily be transferred to any standard case and use other PSUs, if that's what you are going for. Something to think about depending on your needs, but I'm not "officially" selling that model yet ;)
I'm also prepping on another item to offer, but will be reaching out to a few who already placed orders on their opinion on a fair price.
I'll update once I have some news. This will be hopefully in the next week. Anyone still looking for a PC please PM me and I'll take care of ya.

Between the wife needing bed rest on the pregnancy, crazy work hours, and insane weather, I’m finally getting around to doing an official update on parts availability.
I need to thank the BYOAC community again for the support in the limited PC run earlier this year. I can't speak for the emulation questions but as stated in the original post if looking to upgrade video I would personally go with the Modder. They both have PCI express x16 slots, but the modder uses standard ATX parts, so would be much easier to upgrade over time.
I've personally used a cheap MonoPrice Display Port to HDMI adapter on a Modder to connect to a TV in the past. It was also able to do audio pass-through that adaptor, so just one cable from the PC - TV. I can't say for sure if the Basic can do the same, since it uses a different mainboard, but it also has displayport out video and the standard 3.5mm out for audio. I'll have to test it to be sure.

Didn't place this in the main post as this doesn't apply for most. But if anyone is looking for something even cheaper than the Basic, I have some older Core 2 Duo boxes I can setup. I don't have many of these and was going to scrap them, if anyone has a particular need for something of that vintage let me know. Wasn't going to go through the trouble of cleaning some up and creating a base Windows 7 image unless it was worth it to anyone.

The one I got is about the equivalent of a modern i3 CPU. It ran NFL Blitz at about 95% when in medium res, and 100% at standard res. Of the machines I bought only 1 was actually for me and is the new Plex server in my house. I dont see any issue with running hyperspin, but I can put a DC emu on there this weekend and see what it does. Playstation emulation should be fine, the system is well over what is needed for that.

If you get Demul running you are better than I. After I put a dedicated GPU in it, it still told me I was missing the spuDemul plugin.
Do you have spuDemul.dll in your plugins folder? I'm using demul-0.582 on a Intel G3220 and a $10 powercolor graphics card and I have no issues.

MAME: Did the standard test of Gauntlet Legends (90-95% medium res, 100% standard res) , NFL Blitz ran 99% at medium res, 100% at standard
PCE /PCE-CD : Magic Engine ran everything Blazing Lasers, Bonk, SFII, Rondo of Blood
Dreamcast : Demul Ran Gauntlet Legends fine, no issues with 2D fighters like MvC2, CvS2, but 3D games like Dead or Alive and NHL2K had some slow down issues.

These results are based on the 1st run of desktops TK offered. My desktop version has 16 GB of RAM , and I removed the optical drive in favor of a second hard drive. Other than that, no extra hardware is installed
SuperNES : ZSNES ran every game at 100% StarFox, SFA2, SuperMario RPG , etc I was trying to test games with special chips.
Sega Genesis\CD: KGEN\Fusion ran every game at 100% VectorMan, Virua Racing, Super SF2
Sega 32X\CD : KGEN\Fusion ran everything at 100% Toughman Contest , Sonic CD, Supreme Warrior 32x
vivanonno : couldnt get it running
Model 2 : Ran Daytona, Sega Rally etc without any issue.
Model 3 : Super Model, couldn't get it to run
PSX: ePSXe ran everything 100% , from RidgeRacer and Gran Turismo to Grand Theft auto and SFAlpha 3
PS2 : PCSX2 : Did better than I thought! MegaManX collection ran perfect, but 3D games like Vice City, Soul Calibur 3, etc didnt run fast enough for my liking. Im sure with tweaks games could be made more playable, or by adding on a video card.
PSP: PPSSPP Ran the games that do run, at 100% with no issue.
MAME: Did the standard test of Gauntlet Legends (90-95% medium res, 100% standard res) , NFL Blitz ran 99% at medium res, 100% at standard
PCE /PCE-CD : Magic Engine ran everything Blazing Lasers, Bonk, SFII, Rondo of Blood
Dreamcast : Demul Ran Gauntlet Legends fine, no issues with 2D fighters like MvC2, CvS2, but 3D games like Dead or Alive and NHL2K had some slow down issues.

Welp, the PC I got doesn't have a standard power supply, so it couldn't be easily upgraded. If you also get one that doesnt have the standard power supply, I'd suggest the best nVidia based card that doesnt require another power connector to the rear of the card (prolly 8XXX series GeForce or a 440GT). In all honesty if you plan to run more demanding emulators, Id suggest the "modder" PC as you can easily replace the existing power supply with something beefier that will support the power requirements of the video card. For the price its a pretty great little machine.
I've now bought 6 PCs in total with no issues. As for your quote from TK, the prices listed include shipping so unless youre outside the cont. US, just PM him with how many you want :)

I bought one of the 5450's originally, and when overclocking it some, it was able to speed up games like street fighter 4, but I think I'm going to get one of the r7 250's since it seems the best price to performance card for these computers. You just have to make sure you go into the bios first and change the video option from the onboard to pci-express, then install the card and software/driver.

I dunno if they've changed the algorithms but the best is private sellers through Amazon using bots to manipulate price. I remember seeing some random no-name books that two bots got into a pissing match over that were listed for $100k, stuff like that. I remember reading that Amazon actually tracks purchasing habits/history to the point that they will preemptively ship products to regional distribution centers because they know what you're going to buy before you buy it.
Them Amazon folks r smart! I feel like within 20 years we'll be telepathically linked to Amazon and if we think "dammit I'm out of hand sanitizer" there's going to be a huge cannon in Seattle that's already launching a case directly onto our front porch before we can blink.

If you all are going to upgrade video cards, I would definitely go with either the 7750 or the r7 250 (I think they are fairly close, the r7 being cheaper though).
The only issue I ran into was that the sapphire card had a micro hdmi port instead of a full size one. It came with the adapter cable, but if not in just the right position, the video would cut out. Not sure if it's the port itself not making good contact, or the adapter cable. Either way, I would go with one that has a full size HDMI port on the card just to avoid that issue. They weren't worthless previously. They have been a very good deal throughout, even if someone just wanted a basic internet browsing pc. As a gaming system, it depends on what all games you like to play. Saying it the way you did is disrespectful to the OP who is giving us an excellent deal on these pc's.
As I mentioned though, it's a huge upgrade with this video card, and if previously reported posts stated GL ran well on medium on the onboard video, I can't imagine it wouldn't run flawlessly with this card. I will check the game out that you are dying to know about though so you can have peace of mind.

Admittedly I have not tried the PS2 version. I purchased a N64 specifically to play this game in the 90s, but that system is long gone and I've yet to encounter an N64 emulator that plays anything properly.
Frankly, I'm excited we're finally on the cusp of cheap computers being able to run this ROM. I have been waiting YEARS for this.

Well, I never said you were interested in it before I bought it. I bought it as part of a package and thought I'd hook you up. It was a risk free investment because if you didn't want it, I knew I wouldn't have a problem selling it. You said you didn't want it, and it sold less than 24 hours later. My point was you didn't want the actual arcade PCB , not the risk on buying one for you.

I have a spare N64 I can send ya, it lacks a controller and a video cable though (can use a SNES or GC one)
EDIT: it also appears GL came out on PSX, and PSX emulation is pretty much perfect. Go for that one

Played the mame version of Gauntlet Legends, not sure if that's the version you were inquiring about, but it ran with no issues. Didn't see a setting to change the game quality (high, medium, etc)... but whatever it was, it ran it no problem, no slowdowns or anything. I also played it as 2 players to see if it would cause it to slow at all, and it was all good.
hit F11 and check the %
game was totally playable, but thats not good enough for pbj, gotta have 100% all the time or bust.

No jokes or wit, I tested the system he's selling (the model 660 – 3.33 GHz ) and got through the select screen and a bit of the first level (playing on a keyboard sucks) ran between 93% and 100% you said it wasnt good enough. I ordered up 4 of the modder systems, and I'll test it again with the model 2500 see if it makes a difference.

ok, had to configure the fps for f11 in my mame setup menu, then got it to display... but yeah, it won't work for pbj then, because it dips down to 80%-90% on the mountain. The game plays fine, no lags or issues, but if it's perfection he's seeking, he needs to look for something other than a budget pc build.

I have one of the modder pc's that I just got in last week from the OP and I got in the visontek r7 250 card yesterday (have a sapphire one in the basic pc), so installed that card in the modder pc and checked gauntlet legends again. Very short dip at the selection page, less than a second it dipped to like 75%-80%, then right back up to 100%... then on the game play, 100% the entire time on the mountain, at times going to 105%. Also noticed the cpu usage was lower on the modder pc (about 25% lower). This is all with zero overclocking set on the video card, just the factory settings (same as the basic pc test earlier).
So looks like the modder pc was solid with the r7 250 card.

I've been saying it for some time that the i5-2500 (I have the K variant, but I'm running it stock) can handle anything that's currently capable of running at 100% in Mame. The only area where it will choke is when you try to run multi-monitor games (Punch-Out, Ninja Warriors, etc.) with HLSL enabled. Add a capable discreet GPU and that solves that problem.
This offer is worth it for the CPU alone, frankly.

I recommend Belarc Advisor for a program to pull any current info on a machine as discussed above. It's great for pulling all your current licenses, not just Microsoft's.

The power supplies in these are not that high and those cards still work fine. the 5450, 6450, r7 250, etc all work fine with power supplies lower than what the required listing for them is.
As I mentioned earlier, the 5450 and 6450 are slightly better than the onboard video, especially on the basic pc's with the slower cpu, but those two didn't run street fighter 4 at full speed. The r7 250 did. I wouldn't go any lower than that card if you're going to upgrade. the 7750 should work fine as well, but is more expensive.

In a few days I'll be able to answer these even better when I finally find some time to get my modder set up (and other smarter people than me can already probably answer better) but with the exception of Blitz/MK4 and the HLSL issue, that list was pretty much 100% on my old first-gen core i3, integrated graphics POS budget laptop on 1.51. (I played a LOT of TTT on that thing.) The modder should handle that stuff like a champ, afaik.

You are reading too much into it.
The modders come with a 240W power supply. If you want to replace the power supply in it with a standard ATX one, you'll have to put the guts in a new case. Same thing goes if you want to put a full sized PCIe card in there. You either have to mode the case or get a 1/2 height card.

It came in it's factory box, with a mouse and keyboard that were virtually brand new, as well as a brand new ethernet cable. Mine happened to be lenovo M series.
The PC itself looks great, minor scuffs and stuff but nothing crazy. It booted right up and has been able to play every rom i have thrown at it so far, the most intense being tekken tag. Will test others soon.
Extremely happy and for 125 shipped YOU CAN'T beat this deal. The CPU alone goes for that much. If you were hesitating, DON'T. Just buy one, you will not regret it.

If it helps I can run most non 3d games with Timothy Lotte's CRT shader on radeon 4650 and 3ghz celeron d on 64 bit Linux at 1280x1024 on Mame .157.
When I tried a game like Jojo's venture I was only getting about 80% speed with glsl turned on but all the classics are 100%.
I don't know how that translates into windows though the newest Mame uses glsl now.
I just ordered my modder.
I suspect it will be twice as fast as my current daily driver system which is an a10 amd setup.
Which is fine.
Its fast enough for my daily work and I don't want to play legends and golden t at my computer desk anyways.

magus90, tell ya what. Get the $35 card. If its not good enough for you, I'll buy it off you for $35. Then I'll put it in my Plex server box to help with transcoding and to let who ever is staying in my guest room play slightly more modern games on that PC :)

There is just surprisingly little information on what GPU's work well with HLSL, and the info that can be found is always on the same 2 graphics cards. the 750 ti and i forgot the other.

See this is where i get a little confused in how that information translates to how well the card will process HLSL for 90's MAME games. I would imagine if the 6450 could almost run SF4 it should be able to run HLSL on basic games. BUt i honestly am not sure.
Yeah the r7 250 seems great, i just didn't have the $90 to spend on it right now. And if it's overkill for what i wanted and the 6450 would work i would have rather spent the 35. I guess i shall find out.

Are there any specifically recommended r7 250s?
The XFX 2gb seems like the best one. It has regular HDMI, it's 2gb, and has all great reviews. It's about 90 bucks on newegg. It was 72 just last week with a rebate but it's gone now!

See this is where i get a little confused in how that information translates to how well the card will process HLSL for 90's MAME games. I would imagine if the 6450 could almost run SF4 it should be able to run HLSL on basic games. BUt i honestly am not sure.

I dont think it'll run with the on board, it doesn't meet the system requirements. MKX doesnt run all that great on my gaming rig and its far superior to the modder system, MKX just isnt optimized, like at all.

You can run JAM on an old P4 , I find it very unlikely NBA Jam TE ran less than 100% with any video card. I have one of the original basic systems and it ran Jam TE 100% and ran Gauntlet Legends at about 85%, or if I put the game in standard res, 100%.

Well most of that testing was done on Street Fighter 4... the only MAME one I played at that time was NBA Jam TE, and it had some lagging for me... unless hyperspin or mame had some other issue that was causing it to slow, it very clearly was compared to the many other times I have played it on my main arcade system.

I got an PNY GT 730 1Gb because i hate AMD cards. It was 55, 65 before rebates.
It's not as powerful as the R7 250, but is on par or better than the R7 240.
Just wanted to update for anyone interested in just upping the GPU for HLSL or other light graphics needs and don't want to spend 80+ on a card.

I threw in my old video card which seems to work fine but I didn't even realize that it requires 300w. I have a newer card that also requires 300w but I'm not sure if it's worth trying on the 240w supply. I have a power supply that will fit in the case, but the main connection for the motherboard is larger than what's on the modder board.

if you got a 3550 , thats a much better i5 than the 2500

I have been waiting for days after sending TKwarrior payment for an extra 4gb Ram stick for a response. Honestly not even sure it will do anything at this point. Just figured for how cheap it is, could be good to have. Hopefully he gets around to answering his emails and sends that bad boy out.

There are worse "retail" vendors out there (Divemaster, for example, is just really, really bad at communicating quickly, but that said, he has never, ever failed me) and TKW is doing this just for BYOAC, as I understood it.
I think, personally, I've been really spoiled by Newegg (and to a lesser extent, Amazon) delivery speed - huge companies with huge distribution chains - so I give our "local" guys the benefit of the doubt! ;D

I should note, all fans come on when I boot with the video card in it including the fan on the video card itself. There are no system error beeps. I also tried updating the system bios to see if that helped. Still no video or peripherals working when video card is connected.
Edit: So I tested the video card in another machine and it was doing the same thing. I guess it's bad since it didn't work in two machines. I'll try to exchange at new egg.

but i'm glad i'm not the only one.
I somehow over paid him $20 \fail_math :) and when he told me and asked if I wanted a refund or more ram I asked how much to ship a monitor to me & I got no response.
Thought I insulted him or he thought I was trying to get a dirt cheap monitor or something.
I also said he could just refund me but still haven't gotten a response.

anyway I got to test Gauntlet legends on mine and very happy.
I also picked up low profile gforce 9400 and a component dongle for testing a 20" CRT TV I have with component out
looks damn good.
I plan to use this PC/video card on a 32" 4:3 CRT with component in that I have for a 4 player pedestal so I don't need the shader but can test it on this cheapo card if anyone is interested.
HLSL or GLSL with latest mame.

Dude, you got an unintended upgrade! Someone in my office must have changed some PCs around. You must have got an m92 by mistake instead of a m91. They look exactly the same from the outside.
Seeing how you found an adapter (good to know one exists when they go off-contract).... my apologies? :dunno I'm curious of the horsepower differences with the 3500 in mame.
And no, no more of those are for sale :lol

All of the Modders are exactly the same with the exception of ram installed to my knowledge. Are you saying you had multiple of the same PC and one is showing a different on board video version? The video is from the CPU itself in the i5 series, so I'm confused. Lack of sleep aint helping :lol. Keep me posted and I'll do what I can to help you out.

In all seriousness, I normally stay off the forum because if I let my eyes wander, my productivity it shot for half the day. I've already seen a few projects mirror my own ideas from the past year or so, and I get depressed not being able to work on them for a while yet. Plus I get notifications when I get PMs and they are more secure.
I was inundated by questions via PM and was trying to reply when I could. The last week has been insane, so I have already replied to everyone I thought was pending correspondence this evening. If you didn't get a PM from me reach out so I can take care of you.
Just to re-iterate, I'm NOT a 'retail' seller here. This was a side way to help the community and help with the insanity costs of getting a new home and baby. My prices are low since it's more paying for my time than anything else, which unfortunately is in short supply as of late. I had to reduce to doing shipments once a week since getting these cleaned/ prepped/ shipped can just wear on me if I try to devote time to this every day.
I greatly appreciate everyone's patience. Thankfully I try not to arrange any payments until I have the equipment ready to ship. Just please keep in mind that until things calm down (at work and home) I'll be going on a once a week shipping plan and will do my best to stay on top of PMs going forward.

Feel free to thank whoever switched it for me! I got the adapter last night and it works like a charm with my 400w supply and better video card. The extra ten bucks for the adapter was worth it for a better processor. Not sure if there's much difference in MAME. Gauntlet Legends seems like it runs exactly as others have reported though I haven't tried with my newly installed video card (if that even makes a difference). I'm not sure what the other games are that people use to test the performance in MAME. The usual suspects like Cruis'n, Ridge Racer and San Francisco Rush work perfectly.

Mine was an M91 i believe.
Also just wanted to publicly thank TKwarrior. I ordered 4gb of ram from him for $15, and not only was the ram brand new, but he included an extra 4gb of ram for free because i am assuming he felt bad it took him a few days longer to ship.

You need a low profile card.
I bought the 1gb GT 730 because i like nvidia. But there is a better AMD card that will work AMD R7 250 low profile. Its more expensive though.

I went into the bios and changed the video to auto which is supposed to boot video from pci-e first. Then I put the video card in. But when I put the video card in and turn on the computer, I get no video even before windows boots (i.e. bios startup) and the keyboard and mouse don't seem to be detected. I take the video card out and everything boots fine with the video connected to the onboard again. Any ideas why it is doing this and is there a solution that anyone knows about? I have tried it with the bios set to both auto and pge (which is the pci-e setting) and get the same results.
Are you using the power supply it came with? The Newegg page says it requires 400w minimum.

I should note, all fans come on when I boot with the video card in it including the fan on the video card itself. There are no system error beeps. I also tried updating the system bios to see if that helped. Still no video or peripherals working when video card is connected.
Edit: So I tested the video card in another machine and it was doing the same thing. I guess it's bad since it didn't work in two machines. I'll try to exchange at new egg.
Update, finally got a replacement card and it's doing the same exact thing. First card was from New Egg. I sent it back for a refund and bought it on Amazon, so it's not like a bad batch or anything. Any idea why I would be having this problem? Is there a driver I need to install to use the pcie port or something?

I tested in my main machine, which is a different machine than the other machine I tested in on the last card, and I got a picture, so the card works. Next, I disconnected my large power supply from my main computer and hooked it up to the machine I'm trying to use the card in and got the same results as before, so it's not a power supply issue. I made sure the video in the bios was set to pce which is what it said pci-e should be. So, I guess I've narrowed it down to the board not functioning correctly or the card is incompatible. Which would seem odd because the card was recommended by others in this thread. Don't think the board is malfunctioning because that first card didn't work in that other machine either. Any suggestions? Why would the card be incompatible if that is the case? It's pci-e 3.0, but I've read that cards are backwards compatible with older pci-e slots, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I am enjoying my modded too however some games lag ie) sega Naomi. I also would love to play the new mk on it so I am wondering what video cards are recommended? I noticed there has been talk of upgrading I just want to e sure the card works

You need a low profile card.
I bought the 1gb GT 730 because i like nvidia. But there is a better AMD card that will work AMD R7 250 low profile. Its more expensive though.

New card came in today. I put it in the computer and it fired right up. So, I'd say definitely avoid the R7-250A-CLF4 for this computer. It must not be compatible with the computer.

I've been playing Fore for the past few weeks on the modder (first time I compiled my own MAME because I couldn't wait for this game!). As we've discovered, my modder is actually slightly faster than everyone elses but I think they'll all play it just fine. One important note: the game will struggle pretty often on the default settings. Change the dipswitch to low resolution and it should run near 100% at all times. You'll get an occasional audio hiccup here and there especially if you end up in the woods, but it's very playable.

Another tip, make sure you press T to go into test mode after it boots up to adjust the sound. It defaults at basically 0. I also cleared out all the records and leaderboards since some of the computer scores are almost impossible to beat.

Has anyone tried out any games on the "modder" system with the Dolphin emulator or steam? I would assume I'd need one of the gfx cards that was mentioned previously, but I just thought I'd check.

I've tried a few but the performance really depends on the game. Mario Galaxy runs.....OK but can be sluggish at times. Not really good enough for me to play through. I'll have to stick with the SD version on Wii for now. Mid-range games run pretty well for the most part. The Wiiware Target Toss Pro games worked perfectly for me on 1080P.

The NewEgg links says it requires a 300W power supply which I know my Modder didn't come with. I think the power requirements are usually very conservative but just be aware.
I should be fine.
I just checked & the old 9400 GT I have installed now is a 50W part and it boots up just fine.
The 730 is a 25W part.
I'll run some actual games though on the 9400 first to make sure.
If it handles them without a crash i'll grab the 730.

Still trying to offer these as cheaply as possible for the forum while keeping it fair for my time involved in getting these out.
Basic/Modder: all remaining desktops I sell will be upgraded to 8GB installed. Only option for upgrades I’m making available will be for the Modder to 16GB total (while supplies last).
Basic 8GB - $110 shipping included.
Modder 8GB - $150 shipping included. Upgrade to 16GB adds $30.
Portable: all units will have 4GB standard instead of the previous 2GB. Upgrade to 8GB is available until my spare memory stock runs out.
Portable 4GB – still $150 shipping included. Upgrade to 8GB adds $30.
So not that bad when doing the math, about +10% on some items or less when comparing like for like memory sizes from before. I’ll hold these prices for as long as I can, hopefully until these sell out.

For the rest of July (we'll see if I continue this after depending on response) I'm lowering portables to $100 shipped.
That's a business grade i5 laptop with 4GB ram and windows 7 professional pre-loaded and activated.
Some here already bought some and can attest to the experience. I know it's not as popular as the desktops for any builds, but most out there should know someone that could use a cheap good laptop.

The Modders are the best desktops I have left. That one with the 3000 series chip was a fluke mistake on my end that was an unintended 'free upgrade'.

As of today I no longer have any higher capacity So-Dimms for the portables. In plain English that means the only option for portables is 4GB, not 8GB. Will update the main post to reflect this. They are still, however, $100 including shipping.

The AVGA should fit in the modder case if you drop the second dsub connection, maybe ask if they have a low profile bracket. I didnt see power requirements for the card but since it doesnt have external power connections on it you should be ok.
If youre moving the guts of a modder into another case you should be fine, but if youre doing that you should upgrade the power supply anyway.

I just received my new SSD drive 256 GB. If I want to install do I need to just get a SATA 3 cable and a Power cable to go to the power supply? Is there room on the power supply for three drives? Thanks
Why do I feel like the FAQ guy for these?
There are 4 SATA ports, 2 are 6.0 Gb 1 is 3.0Gb and the last one is an eSATA port. The power supply that comes with the PC only has 2 sata power connectors, the ATX connector, and the 4 pin mobo connector. The Power supply that comes with it is also an 85% 285W PS.
they have SATA power splitters but there isnt much room in the case. If you dont plan to run the regular HD and the SSD, just disconnect the DVD drive and clone the HD to SSD then replace the HD with the SSD. Or you can be like me and just remove the DVD drive to plug in the second hard drive/SSD

I wanted to run MAME with HLSL on, but had a few issues with lag. I also wanted to run the Dolphin emulator, which worked, but the framerate was terrible. After the gfx card upgrade, everything seems to be running great. I did have a bit of framerate stutter w/ Naomi, but I haven't tweaked the settings much on that yet.

I took the MODDER option with 16 gigs of ram.
What I got was a Lenovo M91P.
Looked like this:

Tore it apart, put it in a new case with a GTX 960, new power supply, and a Samsung 850 EVO SSD drive.

To answer that question for you speaking from experience. You'll want to get the GT 730. Unless you plan on changing the case. The reason being, is the case that this PC comes in is a SFF (small form factor) case so you will need to use a low profile ready video card. The GT 730 is about the best your gonna get in that category.

Right above the main power connector on the motherboard, you will see a small cable plugged in that leads to the front of the case fan. This is a thermal sensor. You will need to disconnect it from the case and use the sensor in your new case or else the CPU fan will spin on high at all times. Figured that out the hard way after I had everything hooked up and running and the damn fan seemed so loud. I checked BIOS settings, took some readings and was at a loss. Thought maybe that's just the way the fan was and that I was gonna have to order a new quieter one.. did a bit of research and found out about the sensor, so I pulled it off the old case, plugged it in, problem solved. In the new case I have it mounted just above the CPU fan with some plastic ties. That way if the CPU gets a bit warm, it will know to speed up the fans... Don't really see that ACTUALLY happening though.. The new case has 3-120mm fans, 1-140mm fan and 1 huge ass 240mm fan on the side window. ;DIn this day and age of everyone thinking super tiny, I'm glad to see you going balls-to-the-wall on this machine. :cheers:

Thanks for the heads up on this. :notworthy: We have been dealing with a noisy fan since transplanting the motherboard on ours. We were going to try an upgraded fan but I can see now from your post that wouldn't have helped.

The computer was actually for a kid with Autism. His mom is a friend of mine back in Nebraska and doesn't really have the kind of budget it would take to buy him a gaming computer. I'll need to do an inventory check, but until the dust settles after the current lot of orders is done this week, I'm taking them off the options list on the main post. Anyone who PM-ed me prior to this post will still be getting their modder, but I wanted to make sure this went out before anymore requests come through.
I still have portables and Basics left, and will confirm later today if the basiscs are also capable of the 16GB Ram upgrade. Now don't get me wrong, these are still great systems, especially for the price I'm giving them away for, just not as easy to transplant into other cases. Its more of a BTX style enclosure for those techy enough to know what that means.

Wasn't able to get the pinout to work for the front audio. I'll need to rekey it, if I want those to work

I recently had to fight a bad case of pneumonia. Was out of commission for a couple weeks. Feeling better now, so will get back to testing out remaining stock and confirming orders this week.

11 month old got it really bad (double ear infection) and had to rush him to the doctor multiple times fighting super high fevers when different antibiotics were not working. He finally got better right before this past weekend. The last few weeks have been BRUTAL. Our first born had to get tubes in his ears around 18 months, hoping we don't have the same with the little guy.

The baby ended up needing multiple rounds of antibiotic shots after three different oral meds didn't shake his ear infection. Then the 5 year old got sick again, then the wife, and then me for the past few days (still nowhere near 100%, but I'm powering through it).

Don't know how much more transparent and open I can be on these things. Life happens and this isn't my day gig, so if I'm busy I'm not going to start taking people's money if I can't get items out quickly. I have enough stress as it is. That's why I've stated here multiple times to those that already have my info - DO NOT - send me paypal unless I told you to do so.
Anyone who paid in the first round got tracking #s soon after. And after a couple all-nighters taking care of emergencies for work I delivered all the boxes to UPS today myself. (They were not going to come by for pickup until Friday and that was not going to work for me).
And again, anyone who reached out to me before I removed the portables as an option will still get a portable at the old price. The fairest ting I can do is reach out to people in the order they PM-ed me and if anyone pulls out or doesn't respond, stock will get shifted accordingly.
I know there's a few of you that haven't heard back from me yet, and that's because you are in the 2nd wave as stated before. Give me time to breathe and get more stock ready to ship and I should be ready to confirm orders early next week. Once I'm caught up I'll post what model portables I have left and pricing.

#1.- After i got the portables i felt a bit desapointed due to the fact that i didnt did much research on this and once i gt the laptops, i got 5 t410 lenovos, wich i can easy buy for 90dlls of ebay with more ram on some or more harddrive space , but that was my mistake fr not doing research first.
#2.- Not sure if TKW4rr10r knows, but the battery on this laptops are damaged, at least on mines are,they dont last more than 20 minutes with full charge.
Far from that, the laptops run good, they run mame ok, taito type x dosnt work. Shipping and handling took way to much time and poor mesage responce for a good sale. Thanks And i wont be buyig again.

While I test the machines when setting them up, I really don't have the several hours per unit to spend going through a full charge cycle/discharge cycle. I do however verify the batteries are fully changed and confirm in Lenovo's own software the battery health and capacity (I toss any that have a 'fair' or lower rating and keep 'good/green' units in outgoing shipments). This software remains on any unit going out to check for yourself, BTW.
That is not to say that sometimes batteries degrade or drop their charge, since again, these are not new machines. I've already worked with members in the past shipping out replacement batteries or whole units if something happens either during shipment or soon after purchase. I'm sure a few here can attest to me making sure anyone who buys from me is taken care of, within reason (sorry if your laptop dies 2 years from now, not my problem ;) ). But that was when I was reached appropriately via PM, go fig. So I'm not loosing sleep with anyone wanting to bring negativity just to the thread, I got enough drama on my plate as it is.
It IS MY FAULT, however, that I have not been in constant update / communication status here. I can repeat that this isn't my 9-5, trying to do this in my non-existent spare time, blah blah blah. Add in I'm getting things in order for my one year old going into surgery next month (not getting into details here sorry don't ask) and my head has been on a constant swivel. I honestly thought things were dead not getting any PMs and didn't bother checking in here so that's my bad.
So..... besides venting I'll use this post to state I'm reaching out to anyone that PM-ed me recently asking for stock updates and update with I found some more portables if anyone is interested. Just my luck, I gave a few people free upgrades to a newer model last round, thinking I ran out of the T410s, just to find them hiding recently :angry:. No changes other than I can only send ONE power adapter per unit going forward, since I'm running really low on stock. Still have plenty of basics, as well.
I'll just close out the rant by saying: anyone wanting a unit shipped to them next day after first contact, yeah look elsewhere. I love the machine I bought from you. I took it to ZapCon and used it with my EPROM burner to burn freeplay EPROMS for two Donkey Kong Jr boards right there on the show floor. It's been more than handy. I know my daughter is grateful for the one she got off you too. It's perfect for her school needs, and she saved $400-$500 easily.
I wouldn't make too much of the "complaints", they seem to come from people with unrealistic expectations.

I can't imagine you're making a whole helluva lot doing this, as the cost to ship something the size/weight of a PC is ridiculous these days. I know many people appreciate the effort and service though. I was going to buy an i5 modder from you for a new PC for the parents, but unfortunately you didn't have them in stock so I ended up just building them a cheap AMD model. Also, I completely understand having the income as a buffer too. I'm on permanent disability from a motorcycle accident in 2009 that left me paraplegic. The button decals I sell linked in my sig, while I don't make a ton of $$ off of, helps out more than people think and adds up.

Last month+ with work has been murder, working crazy hours and sometimes overnight meetings. But I’m salary, so the lack of overtime makes up for it. Wait… what? :dizzy:
Between that and taking care of the kids and trying to squeeze in time to make repairs on the house, I couldn’t make commitments to doing any new orders until the dust cleared from this chaos. I’ve been watching my mail for any post purchase support issues, but didn’t want to comment on any new orders until I knew I can turn them around in an acceptable time-frame. I actually wanted to make this post a couple times in the past weeks, but always major drama with either the home-front or work would pull me away.
I also realized that with Microsoft’s Windows 10 free offer expiring the end of this month, I wanted to make sure I made available what I could, for any still interested in that aspect of the cheap PC offers. So I’ll have a dozen Basics ready to ship by the end of this week, and more if the demand calls for it the following week.
So I’ll be replying to PMs about availability shortly. Anyone interested let me know so I can setup a queue and know what I’m prepping out. Again, I’ve been setting up about a dozen over the weekend to be ready to ship soon, but can work on more if it’s called for.

I attached the memory read out.. it says 8G DDR 3... however I do not understand if that is one stick at 8 G or different? how many slots are available inside? is there a MAX amount?

I have one of the modder pc's that I just got in last week from the OP and I got in the visontek r7 250 card yesterday (have a sapphire one in the basic pc), so installed that card in the modder pc and checked gauntlet legends again.
So looks like the modder pc was solid with the r7 250 card.
Hi all, I got both the modder and basic. I just a got a Sapphire R7 250 low profile video card and the box states a recommended 400watt or higher power supply. Would there be any issues popping this in either pc without changing the power supply?

usually if it needs an extra power connector you need to upgrade the PS, if it doesnt odds are you'll be ok.
Thanks for the reply. On one of my modders, I've installed a GTX 1050 2GB but can't get Ridge Racer/RR2/Rave Racer to run at 100% in Mame. Anyone else try these? I believe Mame relies more on the CPU, not the video card, but I could be wrong. BTW, Supermodel runs great with the video card, especially when compared to the onboard.
