Title: Seconding a great marquee idea
Post by: RTSDaddy2 on August 18, 2007, 07:40:50 pm
To all you just getting started on your cabinet - this idea is on here somewhere else, and in all probability is in the book (I do not recall) but I could not find it - so I wanted to second it.  Let's see if I can make a long story short.

We hand painted our marquee.  When we attached it to the cabinet, however, the lights showed through (our marquee has sort of a stained glass look to it - or at least that's what we tried for.  For several months, we could not figure out what to do to effectively hide the light fixtues.

About a month or so ago, I saw a post on here regarding marquees that suggested just putting a sheet of paper behind it to hide everything.  Well, we decided to do a little touch up painting on the marquee this week, and it just so happened my wife had some white art / craft paper she uses in home schooling our daughter....it's just thick enough to hide what's behind it, but porous enough to allow light through.  In other words, the idea worked brilliantly!  Once we finish a couple more mods to our cabinet, I will show it off in project announcements, but it definitely brings out our hard work we did painting it and just makes the whole cabinet look better.

As I'm want to say around here...my two cents, for what it's worth...
