I am finally almost done with my jukebox project, been working on it for about 9 months now. Been busy with family & work.
This is simply a quick sample of what I have accomplished, the project is about 90% completed. When it is fully done, I will be uploading pictures of my project from day one. I was looking to buy a jukebox, but decided to make my own since I could not afford the high price tag of the new one.
I actually used the jukebox for our new year's party and it was a blast! I've never had people stay so late, music makes the party! ;D
I started the project from scratch, spend many hours walking around the Homdepot for ideas. I basically took the dimensions of the original Wurlitzer jukebox and shrunk them a tiny bit, mostly the depth since my unit has a touch screen. Some ideals I drew out on paper and Photoshop. The project cost me under $1k to make, most of the parts are custom made by me, so I saved big. Plus I dint have to buy the computer components.
Some Basic Specs:
-20" elo touch screen
-Griffin volume knob
-Dvd Rw drive (in front)
-Sound: 2 Center Speakers (stereo) 2 Mids speakers, 2 tweeters & a subwoofer.
-Software: Albumplayer ( love the interface)
-Basic PC, 500GB, HD 2GB Ram, Pentium 4, CreativeLabs HD Sound card.
I am NOT a woodworker at all, thank god for the "rotorzip" tool! I do think being an artist helps thought.
I should be done with the project late next week, then I will upload more.

Sketches & ideas on paper. Used Photoshop for logos and some design aspects. Drew a jukebox on paper to get a feeling for its size. Time for shopping. :laugh:

Made templates & used them to cut out the peaces I needed. Cut out circles and screwed them together to make the legs, this was really time consuming, but I was limited with the tools I had.

Project looks great. I am looking forward to the details on how you made your own parts. They look as good as the parts you buy for BIG $. Congrats on a great build.

Great Build!
I recognize some parts, the door moldings, and corner pieces, the corbels, etc, but the plastics and the center trim pieces are nicely done.
That grill at the bottom is very nice!

With a ruler and measuring tape I drew out the design I wanted on the wood, then used a saw and rotozip to do the cutting.

After some filing the front of the cabinet was finally done, this was the hardest part of the project. Took apart a powermate for the volume.

Painted and stained the wood. Removed some new speakers out of two new boxes I had and used them for the juke. Build a speaker box within the unit.

Used a heat gun to cut and mold plexiglass covers for the lights. Some other custom parts I made.

As of right now I am looking to replace the subwoofer I am currently using. This is an old computer sub that I had laying around with a built-in amplifier. This amplifier is also powering my other 4 speakers in the unit. I want to replace it with something more powerful & I need it to power my other speakers as well. If anyone knows of a unit that will work better please let me know. I am also willing to get rid of the sub and just power the four speakers with an amplifier if that works best. Thanks

Absolutely Amazing. That is the exact kind of juke I want but in order for me to make something like that I would need step by step plans. I am not good enough with wood working yet to do something of that magnitude.

Thanks. The reason I drew a full size juke on paper first, was to more or less get the size for the parts I needed, I think this made it a lot easer for me. Anyone can do this as long as they have the tools and most importantly patience. :)

I may have missed it in the thread, but what did you use to control the LEDS? Are they a prefabbed sound activated LED set, or did you use an LEDWiz and LEDBlinky? or something else...

@ Puck, YES! ;D I was in search of an amp for my main speakers since my active sub woofer amp is not cutting it for me, I have found the "Dayton Audio DTA-100a" and so far it sounds incredible! This unit is very small, so its perfect. I will be keeping the sub running separate on its own amp. As soon as I am done installing it I will upload pics of the inside.

@ drventure, I was seriously looking into using the "PacLED64 Advanced LED Controller" or the "PacDrive USB driver board" both made by ultimarc. I have used these before in my tabletop arcades. At the end I decided to simply use LED lights made by GE, they are called the "G-35 Light Set" and you can find them easy around Christmas's time, I paid $45 for them. This was a big project and I dint feel like spending hours wiring lights for it. The Nice thing about the G35 is that they display up to 7 colors from just one light bulb, and the set can play several different patterns. The only light that is sound activated is the green tube at the very bottom.

That amp is the schnizle :) Gotta find a UK Supplier though :banghead: The rest of the jukebox is superb too. Man I really need to sort out my woodworking skills.

Looks great hogcia, where did you get the veneer for the jukebox? Everything i find online is stupid expensive, i was starting to think about contact paper from amazon.com. Also, how exactly did you mold the plastic tubes for the lights?

Thanks. ;D For the outside of the jukebox I used a counter top Laminate Sheet. I paid $54 at the home depot, it’s called "Wilsonart size 48 in. x 96 in. Milano Rosso Laminate Sheet" This was the cheapest I could find. Worked great!
I made a custom wooden mold for the light covers, and then I cut the plastic and used a heat gun to shape them out.

I used, 19/32 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. Rated Sheathing Syp (Actual thickness 0.59)

Sorry for real late reply, was away for a while. Both feet in the front are 7.5 inches wide. Ive done a few upgrades to this unit, will be posting pics soon. thanks

I love your jukebox. What did you use for molding around the edges of the top Plexiglas? How are you holding the plexi in place?

I used a plastic white inside/outside corner molding. This is usually used for indoor paneling. The homedepot store had many choices.
I used a combination of wood and screws to hold the Plexiglas in place, basically wood on the bottom section and 2 screws on the top. I applied a little heat to achieve the bend as well. ;D

Just wanted to say that after searching through all the forums, this was the closest design to what I wanted to build and so that's what I've done. Although, going off your pictures (which were a good source), had to make a few mods and couple of changes (but that's what it's all about isn't it)!
I got stuck in about 18months ago - built the front and carcase, then the band saw crapped out and that's where it sat for 14 months or so. The bandsaws up and running now, put a huge effort in the last month or so and it's about 80% complete. Also had some fun tying to find a touch screen for 20" monitor (which is what I sized for). Turns out 19" touch screens are a lot easier to find!
Just about to finish off the top covers (which I've had to have a few beer sessions to come up with a solution), install the junk inside and fire it up - hopefully done in a couple of weeks. I'll post so pics when she's up and running.

Just out of curiosity are you going with an HD monitor? I was thinking of building something like this as well.. and am just trying to scope what hardware I'd want.

What a lovely jukebox. I have stared a jukebox a couple of years ago now. But I was stopped in tracks trying to figure out how to form the half circle on the top of the jukebox. I have one question to ask. Was it just normal plexiglass you used to make the light covers
