Title: Revenge from mars Upgrades
Post by: webdiddy on August 28, 2013, 05:12:36 pm
So my Revenge from mars pin arrives tomorrow.
I want to as soon as possible start upgrading it.
I know that the fan and the PSU should be changed a.s.a.p.
But I also want to upgrade the internal memory and change all the bulbs for LED's.

Here's a couple of questions.
What fan do I need for the CPU? Can I exchange only the fan en let the existing heatsink be left where it is? Will a normal 40mm fan work? (http://www.inet.se/files/img/medium/6300076_0.png)

Can I stick any power supply in there? What modification have to be done to it?

Anything else I should be considering or thinking about?

Thanks in advance.

It's this the memory I should be buying? http://www.ebay.com/itm/512MB-Third-Party-2X256MB-MEMORY-32X64-168-PIN-PC100-8NS-3-3V-NON-ECC-SDRAM-DIMM-/161009324047?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item257ce7500f (http://www.ebay.com/itm/512MB-Third-Party-2X256MB-MEMORY-32X64-168-PIN-PC100-8NS-3-3V-NON-ECC-SDRAM-DIMM-/161009324047?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item257ce7500f)

keep the sink, toss the fan if it's stiff or stuck. you'll want to remove, clean, and regrease the sink as the old stuff will be crap. if you replace the fan, get a ball bearing fan. its a little noisier but will last 10x longer than a sleeve bearing fan.

leave the system the way it is. you will gain nothing by changing or upgrading the memory. unless it's defective... let it be

pull apart the power supply and check the capacitors in there. they might be starting to blow up on you. if you're up to it, replace them...otherwise, replace the whole power supply.

check the caps on the mainboard too.

i have to totaly agree here
toss the fan, replace with new ball bearing type, clean, regrease heatsink
re-cap
leave all else alone...u gain 0 by uping the ram
if the p.s is unstable then replace with a new 1 of equal or more power >watt's<

Be aware the PC power supply is AT.  Not ATX.

Be aware that the OS' diagnostics are not compatible with LEDs.  They will work but the troubleshooting will show every lamp with an LED as a dead bulb.

The best upgrade you can make is to put a video amp in line with the monitor.

The best upgrade would be the ROM version 1.8. It allows you to play "online". If you upgrade to that version you also have to upgrade the RAM!

If you have the network card and that's getting pretty difficult to find.  It only works with one very specific NIC.
