A leak under the slab of a bathroom floor has brought my gameroom project to a grinding halt. At the moment, one wall is framed out and the rest of it is littered with kids toys and bathroom remodeling stuff. :dizzy:

Warning: unfinished room

I bet you want to know why there are pool balls on the pong table right?

In my garage is a 9ft brunswick I am refinishing.....the pool balls are there to remind me I should be working in the garage, not playing xbox.

C'mon guys, post those pics!

nice rooms guys.  i was hoping to get my cabinets done soon so i could post my game room, but my wife and i decided a few days ago that we are going to try to buy a house. (we are currently renting one)  so most of my projects are on hold since we will probably be moving soon.

@pbwiz: that is a large room there. Can't quite see if you'll be able to fit that pool table with the ping-pong, but definitely without. May have to change the layout of the tables, like turning the foosball a quarter.

Nice game rooms so far - I'm stuck with a corner of the garage until we buy a new house, so I won't humiliate myself by posting pics. One thing for pbwiz: you've got to get rid of that dartboard, and get a real arcade version, something like this:

http://www.arachnidinc.com/galaxyII.php (http://www.arachnidinc.com/galaxyII.php)

Personally, I'm biased towards the Super 6's, only because that's the one I used to play in college all the time...

Havoc:
I have a Winmau Blade III Bristle Board from Christmas last year.

Bish
Thanks, I really like the style of your room broseph & its inspired me to beg for a Zelda quilt from my GF.

Ummon:
Danke as well & you are correct about the pool table, it indeed *replaces* the pong table which goes into storage. Although I will mod the pong top to safely sit on the billiards surface for beer pong & etc. Regarding the lower level's size: 1,500 sq ft of finished space (+500 sq ft raw storage/shop) with a 9ft ceiling & a walkout = just enough space for the next wave of goodies & hopefully a 7ft darth vader.

But only the video poker, pool table & wheel mount will happen during 2008 :-(

Well gentlemen I must end this post with my own quote of wisdom.

"Alcoholics do not shake because they need a drink, they shake because they know they are about to have one & its exciting".

I love the pics and all the game room ideas.  I myself grew up with a game room in our basement and I spent many hours/years of fun playing in it.  We had a vintage 1946 Rockola Jukebox, antique bowling machine, two antique pinball machines later exchanged for more modern games for multiplayer game play.  A panchinko game from the 1970s like everyone had and a ton of cool beer signs and posters.

I do have photos of the game room on the following page, it's the one with the red/yellow checkered flooring:

http://www.game-room-decorating-ideas.com/game-room-photos.html

I myself am currently working on creating my own game room and I'm thinking of using a theme, either an Asian Themed Game Room or International Themed Game Room.  In either case I can't wait to get it done.  And when I do I'll post some pics here, it may be a while though.

I have a long thread on CGCC about the game room I've built in my basement.

The Funhouse (http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15601&highlight=funhouse)

A lot more work has been done, but my camera is dead, but I'll post some more pics soon.

Er, I cant even fix the downspout in my front yard so perhaps not.

I live in Los Angeles. Cause of earthquakes, it's rare for homes to have basements. So you're basically shortchanged an extra room and don't get me started on what they already charge for housing over here. Even with the sudden fall of house pricing and all the foreclosures houses are still being charged an arm and a leg for them. A few actually so you even have to throw others peoples arms and legs into the mix. At least it sure feels that way. :dizzy:

Mine is still a work in progress..

Here is a pic just after painting the ceiling and walls

Here are a couple pics from a gamenight earlier in the year, you can see the marquees around the ceiling/wall border, I'm slowly adding to them and am almost around the entire room now

You cant see the cocktail and another sitdown cabinet in the pics, and I'll have to put some pics up of the wall mounted juke (touchscreen) as well...

Still to come, I have a 6 head soda fountain I just need a CO2 tank for

Thanks for the kudos bro. If you want a basement & affordable housing just move to the midwest. I spent a little time in Cali myself, back when I sold semi-fictitious money to people who semi-didnt pay (@ countrywide). If memory serves me correctly there was a dude who spent like $400k on a 296sqft studio condotel in the bay area....sheesh, CA = expensive. I dont even want to tell you what $400k gets you here  :laugh2: but then again I see no palm trees or mountains here  :-[

I bet you can get a Taj Mahal like palace in the midwest for 400K. Here in California, you're lucky if you can get a house with a yard for that price.

Hey MK3Fan

Where did you get yourself one of them Mega touch screens?
Now that I think about where can I get some of the casino type gambling touchscreens? The ones that have many games in one? That would be awesome to have! But prefferably one that does nickels. :D

I just checked for a Megatouch online and they where quoting I think $1300 :o

That star wars must be worth a pretty penny. Also, I think it's illegal to own a video poker machine in California even if it is for private use. :banghead:

As long as its set up for tokens or freeplay & not in the states of: Alabama, California, Colorado, Conneticut, Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Montana, South Carolina or Washington people can have one.

I have a street fighter slot machine in my house, it only gets played when I drink a lot or when visitors are over.

So yep, CA = no casino toys.

I wouldnt sweat it though, just buy a laptop used on ebay, get an empty 8 liner cab, some new buttons, a keywhiz, a custom bezel from MameMarquees & some slot machine software found online or at the evil walmart........then $250 later you have a really cool full sized standup slot & poker machine you can play....... thats a project sitting in my garage right now actually......

I traded it at a value of $2000. Me and the vendor came up with the Simpsons, the Killer Instinct 2 , and the Megatouch valueing $2000, and the deal was made.

Not quite sure about that.  I live a few minutes from the Mohegan Sun Casino.  If you were only a few miles from me I might be over bugging you more frequently.   :P ;D

The layout in my basement is just poor for setting up, moving, or doing anything in regards to a gameroom.  The boiler/furnace is directly in the middle of the floorplan, and there is a mere three feet or so from the bottom step leading into the basement and the wall of the basement.  The washer/dryer take up one corner, the big oil tank another corner, a woodstove eats up another part of the room, therefore making it unsuitable.  Believe me, if it could work as a gameroom it would have been my first project on the house.  The total floorplan of the house just doesn't give enough room.

Ah, so within reasonable distance, but not as close as I thought.  Is it just me or do most RI people get totally hosed on basement quality?

Some really great stuff here - pinballwizard's room seems closest to what I envision my own will look like some day.  Unfortunately, my house is WAY too small for a dedicated gameroom and my unfinished basement has 6' ceilings so that's out.  We are planning to move when we have kid #3 (next year maybe?) and one of the conditions to buying a new house is that there has to be space for a giant gameroom in the basement (pool, arcade machines, minibar and home theater setup).  I'm only 10 miles or so outside NYC so I'll probably have to move somewhat far in order to be able to afford what I have in mind...

CA housing: I think even in current condtions, if you're LA metro, $400k won't get you a house. And San Fran has it's own category.

Circo, I hope you have a thread on how the LED sign displays the game being played.

If not, well my friend I have lots of questions.

Yes please do tell.  Also what is the little grey screen built in to the bezel?  Is that another LED sign or does it give other information?

After more than a year I finally added pics of my game room

here is the link: http://emumovies.com/mygameroom.html (http://emumovies.com/mygameroom.html)

You have got to be a confident dart play to play this course. But a very nice setup.

Well, they are plastic tipped darts, so no real worries there.  I think I did a post a few yeas back on what was going on with the lcd panel.  I don't actually have it running right now because I have been fooling with different FEs lately.  The cab is acting more as a test bed ATM.

Simply it's a 4x40 lcd and I know for sure that the LED/LCD plugins in Mala and I believe game-ex as well will send info to it as well as the BetaBrite on the top of the cab.  However I had created .lcd files that I send to the display that actually show which controller layout each mame game or console system used and then game instructions.  MAME was tedious but the consoles were easy.  So it is my instruction display while the beta brite shows game name, manufacturer, year, etc.

It's a serial LCD display

Also the reason that the game name on the beta brite says gauntlet when the game obviously isn't gauntlet is because the cab is in Playstation 2 mode, i have a component to vga cnverter with a selector switch.

I almost hate to say it...but the cab is a slikstick... from back when they used to fulfill orders lol

Yeah got some cheap RL on ebay trying to recreate that old school arcade look. Wasnt sure what color/pattern to go with so I just picked 2 and randomly put it up. I just need more decorations...  ;D

The control panel I reworked fom one I found here a few years ago by someone named Motorfish I think.

Where did you get the art from that you used to make these?  I have been looking for some similar pixel art just like that and it is very hard to find.  I have an idead that I want to use the art for, but need to find enough to make it work.  If you have the files and want to share it, some pattern you used for the beads or can direct me to a resource (web, book, etc) then I would be greatly appreciated.  Even if you could just take some close up pictures, I bet I can use them.  The ones I want are mostly the old school arcade ones - Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Popeye, Punch Out, Burger Time,  Dig Dug, etc.  It even looks like there is a Dirk from Dragon's Lair.  Please let me know and by the way I think they look amazing.

Here's my arcade wall.  For the first time in several years I don't have a MAME cabinet.  The plan is to eventually turn the Gauntlet Legends into a MAME/Dreamcast cab, but the Dreamcast controller to 49 way joystick issue is tripping me up.  I may just have to swap out the 49 ways for regular joysticks.

But see you can fold those up. Pool tables - well, full-size ones, - on the other hand take up more and you can't. Anyways, I love Ping Pong, too. Have seen people give them (as well as air hockey and foosball, AH) and I just don't have the room.

Great set up.  I can only dream of someday having something half as nice.

For now I have my garage converted but it is still a mess because I had to move out my office to make into a bedroom for the new arival coming.

Thanks Brent!  I appreciate the compilments.  I actually use it regularly for Sunday football games and it was designed in such a way to get the max enjoyment out of this.  I actually live just east of STL and during Ram away games (my family and friends are all Ram fans unfortunately - personnally the only good thing about the Rams is that I get to see the Niners play live at least once a year), I usually have several people watching games all day long, drinking, eating, you know the drill.  I also subscribe to NFL Sunday ticket so I can have any two games on at once with both TV's in the viewing area.  Works out well.  I am looking forward to the seasons start here shortly.

The only thing that never got incorporated into the finished product was a undermount kegerator that would have protruded the tapper up through the countertops.  But unfortunately those are VERY expensive.  I have the electric run in case I decide to go this route in the future.

Now I need to get started on that Jukebox.

BTW - I forgot to compliment you Pinball on your setup - very nice.  I like the "clean" look of your setup.  Are your married?  If so did your wife allow your free reign on setting up the basement like that or is her style incorporated into the look as well?

Luckily for me, my wife was hands off on the bar design but she did have some input on the colors.  And the Niner pictures/neons on the wall are all me as well (wife hates football - poor girl).  As you can probably tell not much other decorating has been done.

Overall, some very nice setups posted here.  Makes me hungry for more gaming toys.  Ah, if only we had unlimited funds for this kind of thing........

Yeah a Kegerator would be serious trouble.  If I ordered one of those It would have to come with a free liver transplant.

Yeah that must be tuff living in St. Louis with all those Rams fans.  Neither one of those Teams effect me seeing I am a Giants Fan </insert boos here>  I think both of those teams are going to have much better years than they did last year.

With or with out the kegerator your room looks awesome.  You going with one of those MP3 playing jukeboxes?

They are very cool and wall mountable too.  I was thinking of doing a bar top arcade system that has a jukebox as well as games.  But I don't have a bar top to put it on.   Only a mini fridge where my Slot machine sits right now.  I might swap it out and put that in it's place.  But yet again that cost money and I think money is tight for everyone this august or at least in my neck of the woods.

Thanks Flake, I enjoy the room a lot too & will be installing a urinal in the bathroom this fall to make it even better (builder left me a spot for one).

Legal marital status is "single" but my Girlfriend of 9 years with POA rights that I live with doesn't like me visiting those special places in the East side.......So I just lie to her, if that isn't "married" I don't know what is.

Anyway the style is mine, she gets no say in the basement & believe me she gets so mad about this fact that she rarely goes down....the steps.  ;D

The pool table replaces the pong & my tomcat pinball was replaced with a video poker machine since those pics were taken. I may add more toys but really like the vibe of the room as it is now, only time will tell.

Well Brent to answer your question regarding the Jukebox - I'm not sure at the moment.  To be honest I dont see a wall mountable Juke could possibly be big enough to house adequate speakers (I'm referring to the Mameroom design) unless you only mount the interface/touchscreen on the wall and have your computer behind the wall and running wire to other speakers placed throughout the room.  I think in my case I dont really have the option to just wall mount the interface because my basement is finished in such a way it would be a pain in the ass and I would have to fish speaker wire lines through insulated walls.  The funny thing is I actually have speaker wire running throughout the basement in various spots in case I wanted to add more speakers later on but they all come back to the TV area so I dont think it would really work.

So....I think a stand alone is the way to go for me.  Besides, only on rare occasions would I be able to crank it high enough to enjoy a more premium set of speakers anyway.  I tried the best I could under our budget to sound proof the basement but in the end I think all I ended up with was insulated walls/ceiling that dont do a whole lot.  But who knows, maybe its doing more than I think - its not like I can compare it though.

Pinball - you have been able to hold off marriage for 9 years?  Man thats awesome, you must have something she really cant find elsewhere.  And I'm not talking about your basement!!!  Congrats on your basement AND living GF status.

It works great. I dont really use it much in summer because basement stays cool. Winter time when its cold I use it most. Heats up 1300 sq ft really quick. Doesnt draw alot of power. Highly recommend it. Get the mitsu they pioneered this technology.

Very much a WIP and very dusty, will be a good motivator for me to finally finish up in the garage gameroom  :banghead:

1. Track and Field (and the lighting / electricity supplies to my house). I have plans to box this area out with lifesize 'signs' of various gaming characters.
2. Arkanoid
3. R-Type
4. Tapper
5. Need a bigger TV. And more shelving for Xbox, 360, PS3 and Wii. Dreamcast and PS2 currently there. Oh and Sky+
6. Foosball
7. Floor (pacman, turned out  :censored:)
8. On its way...

Whole room to be boarded out and funky lighting added. Something like this image (http://fabricants-btp.batiproduits.com/moniteur/files/ProduitPhoto/1227430788.jpg)

Flake, you implied some uncertainty towards mame driving games but then made a positive comment afterward.

So what is your official take/thought on a MAME driven sit down racer (ahem, system 22 & etc of course too)?

I personally am beginning to lean towards dedicated. After factoring in the display, wheel, a PC running @ over 4+ghz & restoration/modification of the cabinet its looking like a $2k investment & 60+ hours of labor.

For that price plus a few hundred more I can go to super auctions for a dedicated Cruisin USA, Daytona & Off Road Thunder.

I know, why buy 3 dedicated when you can have em all......I mean most of em........?

& you are a drunk nerd too btw  ;D

My position is this - I like the wheel itself as a cheap solution to play certain Mame racing games.  I have found it works well for Spyhunter, Cruisin World (although Cruisin doesnt play 100% - but it is playable) and Outrun.  I'm not sure about other games yet (havent tried any).  I guess what I'm saying is there seems to be alot of people that dont consider a dedicated driving cab worth the time and money because driving games have such specific controls and some games (like Cruisin) require a really high powered PC to play them.  So in the end, a cheap ($45) PC wheel seems to be a nice alternative because you can get the experience of playing some of those games without a lot invested in it.

A Mame driving cab can be fun, as long as you don't expect it to do everything. I apply the same concept to regular MAME cabs too. Stick to games that work well on a limited setup. If you have an up/down shifter, a gas pedal, and a 360 wheel, there are a few games you will be able to play well. You may only have 5-10 games, but hey, thats 4-9 more than you would have had with a dedicated machine.  ;)

From the projects I've looked at a modded Xbox driving cab is the best way to go for that.  Lots of excellent games and all the fun of a streaming media station in your cab.

I'd go with a PS3, personally, if for no other reason than compatibility with the Logitech G25 wheel.

Flake & Shardian: You just further solidified my exact thoughts, it looks like a few dedicated drivers will be the best approach for my tastes.

Chad/Shmokes: I have the force feedback wheel for my 360 & play it all the time, I also had a Ps3 until I grew tired of only playing F1 without rumble/wheel options. Anyway, the driver arcade is just to fill a missing element in my game room in between galaga & Forza but you guys are right, next gen racing is nice!

Thanks for the input guys,

Very Nice Chazz, very nice.  Like that you found a way to incorporate a projector screen - I love those things.  I flirted with this idea but in the end decided to go with the 65" Mitsubishi.

Again, awesome stuff.

Hey guys!
Thanks for all the kind words.  Here's a mock up of what we were planning before we even started the basement, it came out almost exactly as we planned
(http://www.lithium-dm.com/funhouse/funhouse3.jpg)

We gutted the basement to the walls.

Here's a pic with the screen up:

Here's a breakdown of some of the toys:

Rock-Ola Sybersonic Legend 7000 Jukebox (holds 100 cds)
Valley Blackcat 4x8 Coin-Op Pool Table

JVL iTouch4 bartop game
MAME'd Single-slot Neogeo
4 Player PONG (from 1975!!)

Benq LCD Projector
120" Elite Electric Projector Screen

250' of Rope Lighting

Alpha 4120C LED Sign
Prolite PL-M2014R LED Sign

If you haven't seen it yet, I have a thread with some of my animations that I've done with the Alpha LED Sign (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=84103.0)

I also have a thread on CGCC.ca (http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15601) that has a bunch of pics of the building of the game room (and some really dorky pics of me)

Sooooo....  Do they give out MAMEY (http://www.mameworld.net/massive/NEWMAMEY/awards.html) awards for game rooms??  ;)

Very nice set up. Good use of the space. I especially liked the recessed corner for the arcade cabinet by the bar. And the lighting is pretty slick; creates a great ambience. How do you find the projector with the lighting in that room? I recently put a BenQ projector up, but haven't had much chance to play with it.

On a related note, I see vermouth on the bar but no gin. Tell me you don't drink it straight?!?!

I ordered a custom design one from arcadesrfun.com about 4 months ago and still waiting on it. Heres a pic of my cabs in my new house. Ive just moved here, so its far from finished yet. 2 ridge racer cabs (one is rave racer, the other ridge racer) and my dedicated ki2 cab. All machines work, with one needing a little attention to the accelerator pedal (sticks).

I currently have both ki and ki2 boards installed, but have a slight issue with me being worried about applying the -5v constantly via a jammaboards 6in1 switcher, to the board that is not being used.

I eventually hope to have both ridge racer 1+2 (still searching for ridge racer 2)and to add a mame setup inside the ki2 cab in a vacant slot on the 6in1 via a j-pac. I also installed some new happ ultimates and a nice set of ultimarc buttons:

I just noticed the gun sitting on the red pedestal with perfect placement of a light over it.

That almost reminds me of a museum exhibit.

You should put a little velvet rope around it & a framed sign on the wall behind that exhibit saying "Light gun: circa 1986 AD"

Minty!  That bar is awesome.  Your house would be great for the sunday football games.  Or even Fantasy draft night.

Great set up.  I can only dream of someday having something half as nice.

For now I have my garage converted but it is still a mess because I had to move out my office to make into a bedroom for the new arival coming.

Brent

www.extendedplayarcade.com

You live just east of stl? I'm in Granite City(you know, that place with the failing steel mill)! I'm trying to get a gameroom but I need to work on some cabs, you know any local places to get some cabs? Any in bellville/edwardsville/colinnsville.

I have obtained one cab I have from the Super Auctions that come through about 3 times a year at the Belleville Fair Grounds.  That is really the best place around here to find a cabinet(s).  There is one coming up in April (I know long time to wait).  One other option I know of is a guy in Madison, IL who has several cabs up for sale on Craigslist.  Here is one of his postings http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/987988928.html (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/987988928.html), he has several others.  Finally the only other "source" I know of is simply to search Craigslist/E-bay (sort by local location) every day (I found a gutted Defender cab this way for free).  E-bay is not very good really though since there dont ever seem to be many cabs close by and shipping costs sour the deal you would get on any cab you would get a "bargain" on.

Hope this helps and I hope your not employed by the mills.......Good luck.

I know dave(got my X-men From him,he helped me fix it too, if he didn't have a spare cab I never would've gotten my x-men cab working again), but He dosen't have too much that I'm looking for, he's a great guy, sells for a great deal , but I need to find more than one place to get cabs. Can you send me a pm when that super auction happens? Sounds cool. No I'm not employed at the steel mill, but the whole city is a mess from this stuff. Not that I notice, I'm too busy trying to get a good job to want to see how the city's doing.

Indeed. PW's game room is at least twice the size of my apartment. I'd definitely be skipping the TV room part and putting in cabs.

Looks good flake, you are really progressing as a super dork (hey I am one too, all of us are) .

You added the bartop, a sweet LED pinball & now started the juke.....& you got rid of the ball pit too, damn!

Ball pit is still there.  For the pics I moved it to my daughters playroom that doubles as an exercise room for my bowflex and eliptical that I never use.

I am king of the dorks in my circle I think.

I do love me some pinball.

I love how open of a floor plan some of you guys have. My gameroom area is only 12 feet wide, which SEVERELY handicaps what I can do. Hell, I have to use my bumper pool table as a throwing line for the darts. This means that darts gets played alot more than pool.

@ bestlousy: nice arcade man I like it, very nice!

@ Flake: yeah there is a full bath/shower (a space for a urinal too LOL) & then an office aka bedroom of 14*17 but I too wished it didnt exist & damn my bar totally sucks when compared to yours, mine is just made out of drywall & Formica not stone, granite & etc like yours.

Take a look at the pics near the middle of just the previous page (5). You will see a sign that says no dumping, thats the bathroom entrance......the sign that says "reserved" & then the 'hot bbq served here" is over the toilet.......

Get it?

Hot bbq served here?

Over a toilet?

LOL I know, gross!

Actually I'm using a Soundcast transmitter/receiver set to wirelessly transmit the music to my stereo receiver and thus the music gets piped through my surround sound speakers.  It works really damn well to be honest with you.  Costs about $100 though - at least it did around last Christmas.

The BBQ Served Here (reference to used food) & No Dumping (same thing) came from some ebay seller from the Philippines. I dunno why their ebay name isnt active though, perhaps they did something unethical but here is their website: http://www.cyscorner.com/cyscorner.html (http://www.cyscorner.com/cyscorner.html)

Its hard to navigate through so go here: http://www.cyscorner.com/NOsigns.html (http://www.cyscorner.com/NOsigns.html)

The BBQ sign does not appear to be listed anywhere on the other pages :-(

@ extendedplayarcade: Its apx 2,000 sq ft total including storage areas, apx 1,500 sq ft of finished space & when taking out the office area the main room you see here is apx 1,250 sq ft.

@ clickhea: The GTA sign.........heh, that is something extraordinary rare. Some dude owned a video game store in like Vermont or something that went belly up.

@ urbecrisch: The shelf is a custom cut sheet of MDF, the shelves are super heavy duty steel ones from Home Depot which are mounted into studs with 2' wood screws.

Hopefully the office will become the "pinball parlor" with 12 machines inside it one day. Its hard to say however because I don't want to crowd the spaces to the point it doesn't feel open & airy or take away functionality of my house (as in no office or gym)......

@ clickhea: The GTA sign.........heh, that is something extraordinary rare. Some dude owned a video game store in like Vermont or something that went belly up. Somehow he had like 3 of em & they went up on ebay. Well I just had to have one, so I bought two. GTA neons to my knowledge have never surfaced since & I doubt there were too many ever made (they were made in the USA so that means no mass production obviously). Unfortunately I couldn't run over the seller with my sports car while listening to "take these broken wings" to get my money back.

@ urbecrisch: The shelf is a custom cut sheet of MDF, the shelves are super heavy duty steel ones from Home Depot which are mounted into studs with 2' wood screws.

1,250 is the size of my whole house.  I have an unusable basement seeing in the house's over 100 years of existance it originally only had a crawl space.  Someone dug it out but must of been short seeing the max height of the cieling is 5'11.  Seeing i am 6'0 doesn't help much.

But I converted my garage into a game room that now has more children's toys than arcade games or pinball.  I had a whole wall of pinball machines once ( a total of 6 at one point) but I had to sell three of my top pinball machines for my now wife's wedding ring.  Everytime i see that ring just laying on the counter like it is a piece of tin and glass it really gets me steamed. :banghead:

If i told you which pins i sold for the ring i might be banned from this forum for stupidity.  :censored:

Very nice setup urbecrisch.  You have managed to pack quite a few toys in there.  It looks like you have a kegerator in your bar setup.  Or at least some rig for pouring draft beer.  Can you provide some detail on this?  I'm looking to purchase a kegerator for myself for X-mas.

Thanks for the comment Flake   Your set up is awesome.  Love your bar.  Only downfall is you're a 49ers fan :laugh2: Actually the spout on the refrigerator is for ice and the black device on the bar measures an ounce of alcohol when you place a bottle upside down so no kegerator here.  I don't drink that much to warrant equipment such as that :)

Not a permanent place for the poker table and chairs although the dartboard foot line is past the table so no one is right up against the table when throwing.  You can vaguely see the masking tape line in PIC 1744.  Have not gotten any complaints yet and my buddies would be the first to tell me :) Thanks for the compliment.

Just your basic ELO 15" touchscreen mounted to a VESA extended wall mount hooked up to my CPU hidden under the bar.  I have all the wires tucked away inside a cord tube (pic 6606) which can extend if Juke is pulled away from wall.  Gave a metal sheet to a friend who was able to cut out the monitor and bend the two end pieces for a unique look.  Ran some oversized bolts through the metal into the wood frame I made and hooked up some blue led's to pimp it out a bit and there you have it... Jukebox!  Have roughly 200G of music on my external HD running Ultimate Jukebox (also messing around with E-Touch).  It's really great for parties so I don't spend half the night rummaging through hundreds of CD's to find a few songs.  I'm kinda particular about my music so every album is full!  No singles or a few songs for each album.  Have every song for each album!  Found some old pics and of course the newest one on my finished room wall.

OK I finally picked up a kegerator.  Its a True brand commercial model I picked up on CL.  Its older but works good....so far.  I added the dual tap tower after the fact.  It holds up to three 1/6 barrels.  Right now I have Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat and Blue Moon on tap.  Once the Boulevard is done I'll pick up a sixtel of Bud Select.

Also, some pinball machines have been added since the last time I posted.

Oh and its much tastier on tap than in a bottle.....and its mighty tasty in a bottle.

Edit "Nice" candle on the bar counter tho  >:D

Well you know we are festive around here.  I even put the Holiday skin on my Etouch jukebox  ;)

Festivus for the rest of us!

I also put the Holiday skin on my Etouch Jukebox.  Bringing it out to my parent's house for it's first performance away from home.

Hey gang,
Here's some pics of my game room

I must has missed your original posting.  I used to have that same cocktail pong game (called Flim Flam).  I just sold it last week though.  :(

Nice game room!

And I just noticed the banner on the wall for the Maudite. Unibroue is a fantastic brewery and everyone here should go buy their beer.

Zakk, nice gameroom!
But why did you photo-chop a football image onto that bar tv, in the first picture? Was it originally porn??
Would have been a good shot, if not for the image manipulation...it instantly drew my eye.

PHOTOCAUGHT!!!
Heh, that one went on the cover of gameroom magazine, and the image was just a white blur.  I had to add a little clarity.  I think I even tried to retake the photo, but because of the low lighting, it was blurred no matter what.  Even with a really high ISO setting, you just can't get a good shot.  The xbox sceen was easy because you can just stop moving.  ;D

***edit, I added a pic from the time of that photo...it was a computer screen and you can't tell what's on it.  Even that pic of the newer hi def is blurry.  :dunno

Coming from the guy that made that awesome steam-punk thingamajig (that I think was supposed to win a Mamey at one point, but we got all lazy about it), I'm going to take that as a huge compliment.

I don't know why the steam punk stuff appeals to me so much, but if I thought people would 'get it' and it not affect resale value, I'd do the whole bar over that way  ;D

If you've got the cash it's easy to justify.   ;D

Nice room Zakk.  I'll be posting pictures in a couple of months when they start construction on my house.  I'm digging out my basement to make a game room / bar / theater.  I just hope I have enough room (I have about 700sqft. to play with).

700 feet isn't too bad, remember to factor in a bathroom, and if you're building new, do up the walls around it with soundproof insulation.  Nothing worse than listening to someone have a bad time in the can when you're trying to enjoy a cold one.  The bar here has a 3 piece bathroom, also with heated floor and solid core door (with doorsweep for errant odors!).  I also put the light and fan on motion sensors, so people don't have a choice but to run the fan when they're in there, even if it's just for a quick pee.  Any sound/smell countermeasures you can install will be much appreciated by your guests :)

The mamey would be cool! Maybe next time around when my cab is a tad more finished. It's still pretty rough right now. Heck, the monitor doesn't even autorotate yet! <g>

I know what you mean about the steampunk stuff. It's a look I could really get into, but, yeah, there's the whole "Eventually I might want to sell the house" thing to consider.

That's why I went "stealth" on my cabinet. It's still great when someone comes over who hasn't seen it and I unfold it for the first time.

20k on a custom gameroom remodel of a basement? You'll likely get most of that back in resale, and you get to enjoy it in the meantime.

Me, I've got to tear out 120' of 8' high railroad tie retaining wall and replace it in the backyard before the hill behind me ends up in my pool (or worse). That's about double that price, and I can almost guarantee I won't see a penny of that in the resale value of my house  :'(

You might want to factor in that if you didn't do the repairs, it would negatively affect the resale value, so really you are getting it back in the long run.  ;D

I forgot to pic the mame machine around the corner, and I don't know why, but the pac up against the brick wall just feels right, there must have been a pac machine somewhere I played as a kid that was in a place like that.  It just looked right when I put it there.

Heh, nope there was no wall, I put that in to separate the bar from the kid's area.  Veneer brick slices of reclaimed brick.  Gives a real homey feeling to the place :)

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but there's some great stuff in here.  Anyone else want to add to it?  Ideas are always great.
My gameroom has seen a reduction in uprights and pinball, but currently has a mspac cocktail, a mame, a golden tee, a mame-ish upright shooter cabinet and a dedicated pacman.  Golden tee is almost a necessity, it's played more than anything because it is so damn easy to get up to speed on.  Booze consumption is paramount here, so hi def cable feed, 3X beer taps, commercial ice machine, heated floor, dart board, computer for internet/jukebox, harmon kardon sound system, xbox 360 and hot tub 2 feet out the door makes for a great meeting space.  Everyone likes it except my liver.

Nice room Zakk!  Love the bar, and especially the beer fridge, Go Leafs!   ;)

I may ultimately get another pin, but I'm not much of a pin head at all. We thought about doing a pool table, but it would have consumed much more of the upstairs, and ultimately I plan to put a couch, tv, my apple 2e, a 2600, and a skee ball up there. I also may move the pin and the ICB up there.

I know this is an old thread, but i always enjoy looking at everyone's gameroom pics.  i finally got around to taking a few pics of my family room/game room.  it isn't nearly as awesome as most of them, but it is in my main living area of my house, so i can't go all out like some of you.  besides, i figured if i posted mine, then maybe someone else might not be so intimidated by all of the amazing rooms in this thread...

there is a couch in the middle of the room, i was just standing in front of it when i took all the pics.  right behind the couch is a tiny recliner and a 26" tv for the kids to use.  i dind't take pics because it is lame.

we have been in this house for about 2 years now, my wife is unsure if she wants to stay here, or look for another place in a few years or so.  if we move, a basement gameroom is on the must have list, if we stay here, we have made plans to build a gameroom on to the back of the house...so maybe someday i'll have an awesome game room like some of you, but for now, this will have to do.

Sheeeeeit...  "my atari wing" he says.

You've got more games in your "wing" than I think I've seen in any arcade up here in Canada for years (and good ones too, unlike the crap they pawn off on us these days up here).

You suck.    :P

Thanks guys... yeah,  I am a little light on Williams game,  though the Williams Multigame is a Pr0k board... which means the games are running on their correct CPU at least...

Just outside of the "Atari Wing" photos are a Punch Out,  Super Punch Out,  my Horizontal MAME (you can barely see it on the right),  my Vertical MAME (you can barely see it on the left),  a Double Donkey Kong+ (Arcadeshop PCB) and a Multi Pac (96-in-1 kit installed)...

Which popcorn popper did you get? (links??)

At first I got a 4oz "Pickler Popper"... but I was very dissatisfied.  About 35-40% of the kernals were kicked out unpopped.

After discussing the issue with the distributer,  I ended up sending the Pickler Popper back and picking up a "Foundation 8oz popper"...

I still use the 4oz packs but the Foundation only kicks out maybe 5-10% unpopped at most.

The Foundation 8oz comes to about $150.00.... though the unit that arrived had some damage to the back corner.  After discussions with the distributer I accepted the popper as-is for $99.95 out the door.  A rubber mallet is all it took to straighten out the back.

I got my poppers from The Great Northern Popcorn Company... though I used their "discounttommy.com" website as it's a little cheaper.

the guitar rack is pretty handy, since storing those things is difficult...plus it keeps them out of reach from my children. i need to get another hook for in the middle to hang the microphone from, so it is not doubled up with one of the guitars...but i just haven't gotten around to it yet.  as you can see, with the spacing the way it is, i can lay my drum sticks on top of the hooks up there as well, once again to keep them away from my children.  i really only ever use the two guitars on the right, but when i built the rack, it was designed to hold my two playstation 2 guitars, and my 2 xbox 360 guitars...but i eventually quit playing the ps2 versions and got more 360 guitars, so the ps2 guitars got packed up in their boxes.  if i had to do it all over again right now, i'd probably make it smaller, for just 2 guitars, but since it is already there, i figured i should just let all 4 of them hang there.

Hey Friz (and other large arcade gameroom people) -

Did you beef up the electricity? I know you originally started with wanting only 5 arcade games, but you seem to have managed to pass that up. Did you have to do any electrical work?

I just went from a 70's era 100 amp panel with 16 breakers to a 200 amp service with a 40 breaker panel.
This wasn't just for the gameroom though, I'm also getting ready to install central air.

I guess I'm most curious about the length and width of the space needed to do something like that.  I'm trying to design an open media room with a bar area and room for a few arcade machines.  I'm not totally convinced I'll have the space.  I've got about 600sqft to work with...

Jesus, 600 square is TONS of space.  My main bar area is 11'X14' and the games area is 11' X 9'  So I've got only a fraction of what you can work with.  I can fit in that bar, plus 3 games, and comfortably fit 20 people.  At 30 people it's pretty tight, but luckily there is that walkout door right there which makes it feel much bigger than it actually is.  The window by the bar helps too, otherwise it would get claustophibic in there real quick.

Do a good layout first with real measurements, and I'm sure you can have a killer bar/gamesroom.  There's also lots of room left over for the media area!  Just have the media area be dual-use.

Yes, I ran extra 20 amp circuits. I think I still have a decent amount of headroom for more games. ;D

I added two 20amp circuits.  Well,  I had one already added for my office,  I just tapped off that one as my office and my gameroom aren't both in operation at the same time.

My gameroom has a total of two dedicated 20 amp circuits,  a dedicated 15 amp circuit (the existing garage circuit) and a shared 15 amp circuit (shares some sockets with the family room).  I run my games mostly on the 20 amp circuits,  though 2 + 3 pins are running on the dedicated 15 amp circuit... and the shared circuit I use mostly for the popcorn machine, dart board,  and such...

Great idea on that Silver Strike and golden tee machine.  Did you buy the kit from IT?  The kit that allows you to switch PCB boards by holding down the start buttons or what ever configuration it is.

I have a golden Tee but don't have a new enough one that has the Nitehawk system in it.   I got scammed into buying the pcb board for the 2007 silver strike but it won't work with out the nighthawk but i obviously found that out too late

thanks for the photo of your game room.  looks awesome

Here is my "blueprint" I made for our basement/gaming area.  Basement was finished, but all in white with a cheap/thin rug directly on the concrete floor.  Baseboard has been pulled, I'm almost finished painting, about to order dricore subfloor panels, and looking at different floor options (currently reveiwing laminate and vinyl "wood" planks)

Once complete, I plan to have half the basement setup for kids (Wii, game table, maybe some crafts, puppet theater, etc.) and the other half for adults (sports tv, arcade cab, bar, poker table, etc).  Here is my plan so far, hope to have actual photos over the next few weeks, arcade cab will be worked on at same time and hopefully one of the first things installed.

Attaching photo, hopefully this is visible.  Basically just a excel document made to look like basement floorplan.  Each cell is 1 square foot.

I think the excel spreadsheet is a great case of using what you have. And going forward he use it to trial fit everything and link the cells to another sheet with inventory information for home owners insurancein the same doc.  Sounds better than cad or visio to me. =)

sorry to hear that.  We are really lucky with our current house - 5 level back-split, which effectively gives us two basements.  I've claimed a bit for game-room, but it's still contentious.

Cannot agree more.  It is amusing in a way - never thought of doing a floor-plan in excel.  It's totally creative, inventive, using what you have at hand, and much better than learning a new tool for such a small job.  And yes, the possibilities (linking, etc) are quite interesting.  I'll usually jump into visio or sketchup, but this will make me think next time i want to draw something.  Must be a big house to have such a massive basement!

Lol,
Excel was used cause I do much of my planning at work and that's the best I had available.  Google sketch looks cool but I can't install anything to office PC.  Did measurements on graph paper at home and then sketched it up in Excel to "pretty it up" for posting! :)  Other tabs in same file show Cab breakdown, estimated costs, links to supplies, etc.

The basement is good sized, basement seems extra large I think because it is under the entire house, and very little unfinished area down there.  Spent Sunday walking 375 dricore panels into the basement and stacking them up.  Once they're acclimated to temp/humidiy, I tear up carpet, perform any needed cement repair, and then start laying subfloor!  Crossing fingers for no mold/water damage!!!

Would like to get a digital pinball, like a Funhouse but I can play about 250 tables on the MAME cab so that keeps me from pulling the trigger, barely. :timebomb:

Would love a nice finished full basement for my gameroom.... one day. For now I get the 'room under the stairs'. Just re-organized everything recently, don't think there is much else I can fit in there. Would like to get a digital pinball, like a Funhouse but I can play about 250 tables on the MAME cab so that keeps me from pulling the trigger, barely. :timebomb:

nice, what racing gaming chair is that?

Thanks for the nice props.   The driving sim is my favorite gizmo. The chair is an Ultimate Gaming Chair Renegade. impulse buy from Costco a few years back. It has sound triggered blue ground effects lighting, head rest speakers and 12 discreet vibration motors and a cup holder  . If you hit the left wall you feel it on that side, that chair was way worth it ($200 bucks I think). A stereo receiver behind the setup powers speakers in the cabinet as well as the chair. My son is on notice, he has till the end of March to get his fill of Black Ops, than the PS3 and GT5 are going in that thing.  :laugh2:

Most people don't know what they are , good eye. The Bally Boomerang used to sit right there next to them, when i found out there was a pin that matched the theme, it only took a week to score one for $200.  Simple table, was dirty but cleaned up nice.

Yeah I bought a Theater of Magic over 10 years ago for 1,500 bucks and restored it slowly over the years.  The pin was in good shape but need some work.  I fixed it all up and sold it along with a Restored Addams Family (paid 2,200) and Cue Ball wizzard (paid 1,200) for a packaged deal of 11,000 bucks. So I made some good bank on that one.  I actually bought my wife's wedding ring with the money.  Go ahead and insert all your insulting comments to me   I have heard them all.  But my wife is all for having a golden tee in my living room.

and soon a cocktail table when I am ever finished with it. I will post pics

OMG! Is that a Theater of Magic? I hear those sell for up to $2,000! What did you pay for that?

He paid a lot more than 2K, lol.

Nice job on the space you've got there. It may be small, but I think you used it pretty well!  Also, gotta give you respect for the rod hockey table, love playing those things! One of these days I wanna get my hands on a full Chexx bubble hockey. One of my favourite nightclubs that used to be here in Vancouver (before it demolished for more condo buildings..grrrr!), had a Chexx that we'd play while enjoying a night out gettin' drunk. Fun times!

btw, you've got a gorgeous looking home extendedplayarcade.
Love the wall colour, and that patio outside looks great!

Dear extendedplayarcade

You should have sold your nards instead, at least then you would still have your games...now you have neither (games = sold, bolas = she took em).

Who am I kidding, my wife's ring is the reason I didnt get my LCD pin & life sized stormtrooper last year  ;D

I couldn't find them. Now, OH, there they are on the wall. But they don't look like the ones I remember anyways, so....

I can't imagine having a GT cabinet instead of an Adams Family pin, let alone a ToM table. I would gut and MAME that cabinet, and keep the pins. Paying more than $100 for jewelry eludes my sensibility. However, if you both are happy, then good enough.

I don't have anything fancy like some of you, and it is all in the garage, but I am really enjoying the lineup now. The Konami cab at the end with no CP is my old MAME cab. It may become an X-Men one of these days. All that is left of the MAME setup is the modular cp, computer, and a new 32" LCD TV. Hopefully I will get around to building a cab for it this summer.

First of all, you guys all have a really outstanding collection of arcades/pinball and other. I'm quite jealous of the space you have available to store everything (and a wife that allows it). I live in Los Angeles, and have a pretty small house (1350 sq feet). We moved in 6 months ago and I converted the garage into this (below). My struggle was that I wanted more than a Game Room, I also wanted a workshop and a place to play board games (I love me some good Euro board games). Anyway, this is the current outcome. I really want a Pinball ... going to have to figure a way to squeeze it in...

Nice Skeeball and those floors are mint.  If you saw a photo of my garage it looks like a tornado hit it.   Great job.  I love the framed posters as well.  Were did you get the frames?  What size?  I have a collection of original Star Wars posters I want to put up but can't (not really tried) find black frames for it.  Great job.  invite us over

Paul you really have some great dedicated machines there, I like it. Reminds me of Frizzle's place are you guys brothers?

Kronic that space looks purdy, all that grey & sealed floors + those dope posters & money shop. Damn that was well done!

EDIT: Best board ever = Winmau Blade 3

Post by: kronic24601 on April 05, 2011, 06:55:20 pm
Thanks guys. The floors are super awesome, I love them the most. The garage was a total revamp for me. I did 80% of it myself. I tore out the ceiling joists, installed new ones, installed electrical /lights, installed a radiant barrier, insulated, added attic ladder, prepp-ed for drywall, painted, installed a new Garage door, and installed all the Gladiator garage products. Here is what it looked like during the demo.

I didn't do all the drywall work, and I didn't do the floors (which look so much more awesome in person). Otherwise it's a brand-spankin-new garage for gaming and hanging. I watch Futurama from the TV (on the fridge) from a netflix stream on wifi ... and puts around in there tweaking with MAME settings pretty much every night now.

The Skeeball was a pain in the @SS to move and restore. It's a full 13' skeeball from 1980. But it cleaned up pretty good. I still need to configure the tickets dispenser and get a replacement coin mech (it was empty when I bought it).

As for the Posters, they are 18x24. I took the artwork from http://flyers.arcade-museum.com (http://flyers.arcade-museum.com) and then put it in photoshop, blew them up and retraced a lot of the elements so they would look good when printed. It's not 100% by any means, but you can't tell at all from a few feet away. They look great. Also, there is a local framing company (http://www.quickartframe.com/) near me that mounts them to foam-core, and installed them with metal frames and actual glass for only $20 ... that was crazy. I first tried target but they sucked!

I have now slipped in a boardgame table/workshop table that I built that takes up most of the center of the room. It's on wheels so I can roll it out of the garage for parties and such ... but I find it useful.

I could not have done any of this without first building a very large shed, Google scketchup, an imagination, and the Federal "First Time Home Buyers" tax credit

It probably won't rust them, but it could make them greasy;

http://www.gotfog.com/fog_machine_faq3.html (http://www.gotfog.com/fog_machine_faq3.html)

Quote
CAN I USE A FOG MACHINE INDOORS - SUCH AS FOR A PARTY?
While we can't speak for every fog machine on the market, we have never seen one that could not be used indoors. But, there are a few things to remember. If you use a lot of fog you will get a very thin film of fog fluid residue on everything in the room, including people. My wife says it moisturizes her skin. Most fog fluids are made of glycol (kind of like mineral oil) and water, so it shouldn't do any damage, but feels sticky. If you have expensive furniture, etc., you make want to remove it or use the fog machine in a different room.

Keep your cleaning supplies handy, if you use it a lot ;)

I thought those green lasers could be seen in daylight without the use of fog etc (unlike the red or purple).

Is that not the case?

No, not "in the air", only on the surface they fall on. You need fog to reveal the beams in the air. But it's almost just as nice without the fog machine IMO.

Wow, a lot has happened in the last 7 months. I just looked through this thread again and saw my post from April. Nine of the games in those pics are now gone. I found 3 of my favorite games since the last post: Pinbot, Stunt Cycle, and Hydro Thunder. :) Here is the current lineup (well almost, I just sold the Gaplus the other day):

Unless you're using an oil-based hazer, there's no worry.  We run mineral oil hazers and traditional fog machines: Our mineral oil hazers disperse less than a teaspoon of oil in a 6 hour run period, and foggers use a glycol base fluid that has a small amount of water, so unless the hot fog output of the machine hits a surface directly in front of the fog machine, there's nothing to worry about.

Gotta say, I run one of those cheapy $30 foggers and it doesn't really put a film on anything.  I had one knucklehead fog us out so bad one night we couldn't -literally- see our own hands in front of our faces, and it didn't dust or slime anything.  Plus since I got it, I've probably used maybe 2 oz o fluid (and even then I don't know if some was evap).

maybe a stupid question, but what effect will a fogger have on carpet?

None, unless there is a liquid dripping from the output nozzle(un-vaporized fog fluid which low quality machines may spit out), which may feel slightly sticky, but shouldn't hurt anything.

If I leave mine on for a long period, without fogging, it will leak straight fluid, it must build up somewhere.  If you set it to 'auto' it never happens.

If you are more interested in seeing lasers than smokng the place out, a hazer is a better bet. That's what they use at rock shows that give the bands that "surreal" look, as well as let you see the light shoot through the air. It's basically a mist that hangs in the air for much longer than fog does and catches the light.

Yeah, my collection is growing...  much to the wife's despair... lol.

Is that an Initial D I see?  Nice!  I wish I could get my hands on at least one more candy cab.  I'd love to have a dedicated vertical machine.

Yeah it's an Initial D, It's been consolised to play 360 though so I mainly use it for that.

Having a dedicated vert cab (or two  ;D ) is handy. There was always a game I wanted to play in the other orientation and they can be a bit of a pain to rotate so I bought a second.

Then I found that there was always something I wanted to play in another resolution (15/31k) as well as the other orientation so I bought another tri-sync to cover all bases. I kept the NAC as the PFX in my Naomi doesn't like Taito F3 games.

What is it with some of you guys and Japan-style cabs? They look a little hard to assemble, being what looks like plastic and all.

Post by: drventure on July 06, 2012, 02:26:40 pm
Yeah, they aren't my favorite style of cab either, but then, I grew up with arcades full of the traditional, refrigerator box style black cabs from the early 80's so that's what says "arcade" to me. The viewlix (I think that's what that style is called), not as much.

Still, there's some fantastic collections of cabs here!

Actually, they are very easy to assemble/disassemble. In fact, they're more cleverly built than woodie cabinets.
Here's a picture of my New Astro City, disassembled for cleaning:
See how it splits down the middle? I just takes some unscrewing and they split apart easily.
Try disassembling a woodie, it's near impossible.

These sit down cabinets are an absolute pleasure to play on, I'm talking about the most comfortable prolonged gaming experience. Personally, as I get older, my back and legs tend to ache after hours of play on my woodie stand-ups.  You could say, why not just by stools?  Well, then I'd have extra chairs that would only be used for these cabinets, when I could just use a regular chair.  These candy's give you the ability to prolong your gaming without the wear and tear on your body from standing around for hours. They're also really easy to switch boards in and out, again, attributed to the clever manufacturing and ease-of-access to each panel. Plus they look slick, like a spaceship!

For me, I grew up with woodie cabinets primarily, candy cabinets didn't start showing up around here till the 90's. But being on the west-coast we were privy to a lot of Asian imports, so they popped up everywhere. The first time I played on one, I knew right away that I loved them.
I'm actually planning on getting a second candy cabinet, they're just so awesome to play on. Especially when you want to seriously concentrate on a game.

Real candies are mostly metal, not plastic.  The only plastic is basically just various trim pieces around the monitor and control panel and usually the marquee holder.

Most candies are pretty easy to work in.  Some split down the middle as shown above, while others just have access panels and doors...everywhere.  Most have monitors that are readily rotated and remounted without any real work aside from manhandling the monitor (kinda unavoidable unless you do some sort of auto-rotate system which is really only ever seen on home-use stuff, though I'm sure somebody will prove me wrong on that one).

They're also surprisingly lightweight.  Metal is heavy, but you don't need very much (it's something like 1/16" sheet steel) to make the cabinet quite strong owing to the structure formed by the enclosing the cabinet.  Getting the same level of structure with wood takes quite a bit more material (3/4" ply or particle board was pretty standard on American stand-up cabs from around the same era i.e. late 80s and on, though MDF seems to have become popular recently).

I have a couple Neo 29s and I love 'em.  Many people prefer the newer styles, but I like the somewhat more boxy (yet beveled off) look and the glass over the monitor face to save it from scratches when it was on public duty.  The front glass is usually just a bit tinted to help with the black levels, too, which is nice (I'm a video quality stickler).

Mind you, I like my good ol' Midway MK2 cab plenty, too.  The standups seem better for a lot of classic American games: sports games, action fighters, etc. as they seem to heighten the experience of action and emphasize the social aspect by encouraging frequent rotation of players and bumping into each other.  Candies are great for traditionally Japanese games requiring precision and control or with slower, more methodical like many shooters, tech fighters, some puzzle games, etc. since your body is more relaxed.  Kinda reflects the corresponding culture to some degree, but then maybe I'm overanalyzing things...

I disagree. It seems, as would be expected, that through the 80s candies were metal. Into, and definitely by the mid-90s, they were almost all ABS/fiberglass/etc.  Astro Citys are black on the inside and the material is more resilient to impact. Others, like an Impress are solid white plastic, very hard, cracks if whacked.

I'm with opt2not. I love candys. I love 80s cabs, too, but I enjoy a good sit-down experience, which is why I MAME'd mine. Pics coming soon....er, ish.

Interesting.  I've really only worked with them through about the mid-late 90s.  Most of the ones I've worked in have been SNK Neo/Super Neo.  I wonder if they were just hold-outs on the whole "plastic everywhere" thing.  Definitely plenty of metal on them.  The whole "box" that makes up the main part of the cabinet is metal.  Only plastic is for the control panel frame (the panel itself is metal), monitor trim, and the marquee holder.

I did a little vid, shows off the bar.  The games had to move into the next room because I needed the space for another bar rail and dance floor.  Never underestimate the space needed.

The wife doesn't object any more because she can have her friends over for a drunk fest too, so it worked out for everyone.

Latest gameroom pics.

I moved my work shop area behind my bar to open up the gameroom a bit more. There are a few things not pictured (there is a row of games in front of the bar and a Touchmaster that gets set up on the bar itself.

Of course my Pole Position being a Pole Position has gone from working to booting to garbage just from being moved across the room (fixed it later that afternoon).
I actually have a few more machines than I really want, as the row in front of the bar is cramped.

A quick update to my previous pic - Early January I got my second crane up and running and moved to the game room along with a sticker/candy machine combo from a local auction.  Just in time for a big bday party for my older son with all the nieces and nephews who love to come play at our house.  Today I got my new Sega Turbo up there.

Funny story about the Turbo, we cracked it in half to make moving easier last night.  Back half went without issue.  Front half was minus the monitor, as I had it out for a recap today. We were midway up the stairs, when the 30+ year old 1x1 wood strip that holds the screw with in turn secures the board with the power supplies, transformer and amps gave out.  The entire unit fell out, reaching the end of slack on cable after cable, ripping them either in half or tearing out the molex pins or solder joints.  Luckily a little quality time with the soldering iron, plus way too many swear words and it's back up and running.  And the cap kit did wonders for the wavy image.

Another auction this weekend, so I hope to add more.  What you can't make out in the picture is the display case we picked up from a local retailer who no longer needed it.  You can only see it's black side.  It holds the spillover of my wife's Hello Kitty collection.  In the right half of the image you can see the shelves I put in the nooks on either side of the entrance to her office, which quickly filled up.  Now this 6 foot display case is getting a bit full, as well.
