Nice score!
What is the purpose of the yellow button above the coin door, and the other circular hole just below it? Credit button (?), and...?

Awesome pickup. That's one of the best cocktail designs.

Nah, otherwise I'd have shown her how to use the 'me' tag for properly neurotic 3rd person self-referencing.

Can you show the coin mech on this one? Just curious.
-
Wow Cheffo was just talking about this and then bam you get one....
Nice score Chance!

OH! 50pts if anyone can find me the vector file for the control panel art. I found the coin door and instruction card .ai files, but i can't seem to find the CP ones anyplace :(
I don't recall seeing vectors out in the wild (or I would have grabbed them), although I believe they were done and repro'd ... can't remember who did them and I think they were already sold out by the time I went looking.
One thing to remember is that the CPs (well, the Joust logo portion of the CPs) were backlit.

Pulled out my notes out of my cab and it looks like Phoenix Arcade was the one who repro'd it, but (not surprisingly) on their site anymore. You might try dropping Jeff Rothe a line -- I have it in my head that he may have been involved and I don't know if he would have any objections to releasing the artwork if it isn't currently being repro'd.
Sorry can't be more help. :-\

I'm not much of a fan of cocktails but I love the Williams ones. Pity that Bubble Bobble was a boot.

-
That's a pretty cool looking cocktail. Pretty spacious for two players.
-
Anyone wanna nail me to the cross for suggesting i make this a Multi-Williams? >:D
Yes, although trying to play Robotron or Defender on it might be punishment enough.
Since there don't seem to be any CP repros out there, I imagine that original sticks are still impossible to find?
-
Are you gonna run a restore thread here at BYOAC?

Yeah right?! It would have been money if it was a taito original. I did find some documentation on the PCB in the floor of the cab. pin out, DIP's, etc.
Cody84's taking the board off my hands to put in another cab we picked up a few months ago for him. So i want to build him a JAMMA adaptor for it.

Robotron would be quite the reach if your using one joystick from each player.
-
For now, i might prep it for the JROK, but thats it. Maybe just let parts come in as i make orders for other cabs.
Is jrok still selling boards? You'll want another for when you find that perfect Robotron cabinet and a pair of 4" Wicos.

My favourite cocktail ever. Awesome game too so great pickup. I've never seen one in the uk or i would have snapped it up.
Joymonkey has loads of joust artwork but doesn't seem like it has the cocktail art :-[

Here you go:
Joust Coin Door Art (http://coinopart.com/index.php?d=1079)
However, you have to sign up and donate $10 USD (about $87.52 CDN)
EDIT: Looks like the above site only has the cocktail coin door art.

Looks like ArcadeArtwork has a lot of the same files (and several more) on their Google Drive "J" files folder here (https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B69DctF0Bt9BeWx3eWZjVURkTW8&usp=sharing) without the signup fee. ;D

Epic cocktail cab, great find!

Are you gonna run a restore thread here at BYOAC?
Are you hinting that i should have run my Mario Bros one here instead of KLOV?
Thought had crossed my mind. but i have a Red Tent, and a the Mario Bros in the pipe first before i can realistically tackle this. For now, i might prep it for the JROK, but thats it. Maybe just let parts come in as i make orders for other cabs.
Yes, this place needs more pure restorations.

Yeah, that was one of my first stops today. :( I did manage to find low res versions of the cocktail CPO's, but they're bmp files and not at all quality to trace over in illustrator. I can't even attach them to this thread.
what quality/resolution do you need in illustrator.
I been digging around google and many other sites, and all I found was this 504x483 jpg (http://cdn3.bigcommerce.com/s-60z4za/products/194/images/378/joustctcpo1__56221.1432740332.1280.1280.jpg?c=2) that has both CPOs.
Looking at it closely, however, I don't think this would be good enough since the graphics around where the joysticks would be is a little fuzzy.

That resolution is WAY too low. Chance is going to need 300dpi or better yet... an original .ai file.
-
ok.
I was just checking.
I was able to find AIs of other graphics, but nothing for the cocktail CPO.
-
.
-
Yeah,
Nice find tho. I'm contemplating going the "Multi-Williams" rout with this. And if I do I'll make my own custom CPO.
...however! Recent developments today have given me a possible like on an actual Joust board set. :D sooo... Yeah :)
We'll see. But you know I guess I'm still on the hunt for the ai files either way
You multi-anything that and they'll gut you on KLOV. Rightfully so.
-
While I hate the idea of disfiguring a Joust cocktail, it's not like you would be making it worse going MW. ::)
There was a time when I liked (probably too strong a word) working with Williams board sets and there is plenty of good documentation out there, but wiring them from scratch will be a complete ---smurfing--- pain wonderful exercise in restoration (does dokert over on KLOV still make Williams harnesses?).
Depending on which way you go, if you can't find files, let me know and I'll drop my CPs onto the scanner and you can vector away.
-
I dunno, it's such a unique machine, designed specifically for TWO player Joust... none of the other MW games take advantage of two player games/controls.
$0.03. Do what you want. Reach across the front and play Robotron with the two separate joysticks. Smoke a bowl, put in an LCD. Make yourself happy.

Don't listen to Yots Chance. Joust was a crappy game and the cocktail version was even worse. All around ugly machine that you don't need.
Tell you what, I'll do you a huge favor and take it off your hands. :)
-
Yeah, I don't want to be THAT GUY, especially around here anymore, but unless you're just using the MW to run just Joust, I don't see the point in MWing that unique cab.
So it warms my heart to hear you found a Joust boardset. There's nothing wrong with a cab that just plays 1 game, especially when you already have a MAME cab that can play almost anything.

Yo dog, I put a multi in your multi's multi.....
-
U haz MAME 4-playz cab plerz erry gum! U no need multi-wimmz! :hissy:

Yeah, yots put it better.
-
This however means i'll need to find new sticks and order new buttons. Did these cocktails have their own version of the 2-way Joust joysticks? or are we quite sure they used the same as the uprights? :)
They were unique to the Joust cocktail. I have heard of people using cocktail Defender sticks (replacing the shafts).
-
See thats just part of it, nobody's done a MW with a Joust cocktail that i can find.
There's a reason for that. Look at the game list:
Defender - Up and down 2-way joystick, 5 buttons needed
Stargate - Up and down 2-way joystick, 6 buttons needed
Joust - Up and down 2-way joystick, 1 button needed
Robotron - Dual Joysticks
Bubbles - 8 Way Joystick
Splat - Dual Joysticks
Sinistar - 49 way joystick, 1 button needed
Blaster - 49 way joystick, 2 buttons needed
Of those games, only Joust is simultaneous 2 player.
Again, do what you want, but I'm glad you're planning on an original boardset.
-
FWIW - which isn't much coming from me, I'd have to agree with the rest of the peeps here and make it as close to the original as possible. save the MW for a repro cab a la your Nintendo cab mate.
Joust is one of the classics that can stand on it's own any day. Add one of the more rare versions of the cab to the equation and it would almost assuredly be one of the most sought after cabs round these parts.
IMHO a MW board would "cheapen" it.

Look into this (http://www.arcadeadventures.com/williams-cocktail-joystick-base-kit-for-both-joysticks/) joystick base kit at your own risk. :scared
Price: Email: arcade@arcadeadventures.com
More info about the Joust cocktail sticks here (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=139618) on KLOV.
Reply #7 mentions that Arcadeshop used to carry repros.
Reply #9 mentions machining down upright sticks.
Kjoel had a few posts on KLOV 6 years ago gauging interest in repros/rebuilds here (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=94486) and here (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=96182).

Why "at my own risk"?
E-mail for price usually means that the parts are going to cost an arm, a leg, and a third appendage to be named later.
I've never dealt with this vendor or this product. :dunno
I didn't want to appear to endorse an unknown. Caveat Emptor.

Edit: Looks like they've been around for a while.

Nice. What's the story behind that lucky grab?

Looks like you have some documentation that isn't on the KLOV Joust (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8243) manual listing.
Would you mind cross-checking for missing pages/poor image quality and scanning any new docs to share with the various manual sites? ;D
Thanks for your consideration.

I had never heard of these guys before, but these may be of interest if you can't find original sticks:

Reply #9 in the KLOV thread here (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=139618) implies that the difference is shaft diameter, not length.
Or you can make your own like I had to do. I took upright sticks and machined them down to the size of the cocktails. The picture below shows the original and the machined down "repros" I made.

I personally like the videos. I've watched most of Chance's and John's.
Tip:
Watch long videos in YouTube on 2x speed. It was life-changing when I realized Chrome had this feature. I can pound out a 1hr arcade video in 30mins. I think Chrome is the only browser with this feature.

You're one of those kids who actually read reading assignments in textbooks weren't you? Most kids would love to watch a movie about a book instead actually reading it. LOL.
Or did you read the cliff notes instead. >:D
