Title: Ms Pacman/Galaxa joystick ball removal
Post by: DeafBug on October 14, 2002, 01:43:49 pm
I got the mspacman joystick since I want a real 4-way joystick.  Question I have is how to remove the balltop so that I can insert a metal plate.   I have seen some plates but they are not flat and hard to flush with the control panel.  A friend of mine is going to make me one so that it can be flushed.

Thanks.

You wouldn't remove the ball, you'd remove the whole shaft, mount the joystick underneath, then re-insert the shaft through the top of the plate...

Care to give me an idea how to remove the shaft?  I only see a C-clamp on the bottom of the shaft.  Am I going to mess up anything putting it back together?

Hang on to the actuator at the bottom and remove the C clip.  Be careful; the spring may want to launch either the shaft or the actuator!

As you slide the shaft out, keep track of the order of the parts and whether they come from the top or bottom of the joystick.  There should be an actuator on the bottom and a spring, spacer, and dust shroud on top, but that's based on my experience with Happ joysticks, yours may have an extra spacer somewhere...
