Losing my mind here. I've got a Lenovo B575. I've decided to install Linux on it so I can start learning the system. Made a live install USB stick that works great. Seemed to install fine. Won't boot. Completely skips the hard drive as if it's not even there. I think I've got it narrowed down to UEFI issues.
Whoever invented this UEFI ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- needs to be beaten with a thorn covered stick.
The machine runs fantastically off the Live boot from the USB stick, but will not boot from the hard drive. I know the hard drive is good as it was running windows just yesterday. Any gurus here that I can discuss this with?

Modern linux distributions souldn't have problems with uefi.
Are you sure Grub (grand unified boot loader) is installed well.
Maybe start up the live system again and try reinstalling/reconfiguring Grub.
Otherwise post in your distributions forum, for i am not a real linux guru. (just muddling through)

I second what GF was saying about repairing GRUB from the live session. Sometimes GRUB it gets jacked but it's an easy fix.
I've tried Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and Xubuntu. Lu and Xu are pretty sweet IMO. I tried SolydX a while back and it seemed cool. I'm a big fan of Crunchbang. It's neat. Very nice for older PCs. PCLinuxOS is also nice, it's my current desktop OS. Been using it for a while now. Might be time to try another.

I've been running the KDE version of pclinuxos for a quite a while now. possibly 4 yrs.
I use the lxde version for most of my dedicated projects and have Attract mode, advancemame, & patched mame .149 on a live usb.
both 32bit & 64 bit versions.
I have gauntlet legends for both versions of mame on it and I went around work booting up the many different PC's off the thumbdrive until I found a cpu that ran it. :)
I don't have one of the new EUFI motherboards but i remember reading on a forum somewhere that they had a legacy mode for booting up with a regular bios.

Tinyxp + everything else is easier because everything is precompiled for you.
Many times I went back to windows.
Still dual boot to win7 for some games.
But I can't see buying a new HD for every little project I do so live USB seemed the way to go.
With small ssd prices dropping I'll probably end up using tinyxp or tiny 7 for some things again.
But the pclinuxos forum is very helpful and friendly.
I first tried Ubuntu maybe 6yrs ago when I was new to Linux.
If I asked a question on the forums there I was told to "RTFM".
Well I did search the forums but if I don't know what I'm searching for....
They weren't like that at pclinuxos so I stuck with them.
The os has really improved over the years.
I have my mom on it also.
No more " I have this thing that won't go away on my screen" phone calls. Lol.

All good. Ubuntu refused to work. I beat my head against it for two days with no luck. Mint worked just fine, first time. Just finished updating everything. Now to load up my work apps! I've never used Linux before so I plan to work my way through a couple of "for dummies" type intro manuals.
