I had a great meetup with some fellow shmuppers on some candy cabs a few weeks ago and just got back from King of Kong II here in Denver. Who else here loves this hobby in the arcade rich city of Denver?
-
Me!!!!!!! :lol
How was the battle this weekend? I wanted to go but got busy moving stuff.

It was really cool!
I think the guys who put it on are KLOV scene guys. That being said, two MAME guys won 1st and second. I know being able to save states has helped me with some of my classic gameplay.
I took a couple of pics:

Walter Day and knucklez are super nice guys.

I was in Denver a week before the Kong Off. The 1UP and 2UP are great arcades. Really wish we had something like them around here.

I think I can declare an official BYOAC meetup in Denver has been held now, 2 people counts! ;)
I met up with Sharpfork last night at The 1UP barcade in Denver. My first time in an old school arcade in fifteen years! We talked shop, I learned a lot about the different variety of cabinets, and of course we dropped a lot of quarters. Seeing Space Invaders in the wild, complete with a thumping base and a well maintained cabinet was a treat. I forgot about some of the mechanical aspects of coin up amusement that were still to be found in cabinets of the eighties, like the knocker in QBert when you fell off the pyramid and lost a life).
All the cabs are in pretty good shape at the 1UP, and the controls are well maintained considering the abuse they get. The displays were also in good shape for the most part, and only 1 machine was out of order (Spy Hunter).
For the Galaga/Pac-Man titles, rapid fire/ turbo mode was active, and max lives were given. Awesome settings! I remember it was rare to find a turbo Pac in the arcades growing up, and certainly not set to max lives. Operators weren't making money off beer like at the 1UP, so no incentive to make the game any easier ;)
Titles I played last night: DK, DKjr, Pac, Ms Pac, Baby Pac, Galaga, Popeye, Qbert, Dig Dug, Satan's Hollow, Off-Road, Pac Battle Royal, BurgerTime, Space Invaders, Joust, and Marble Madness.
There will definitely have to be another meetup in the near future!
-
I plan on checking out the 1UP and 2UP when I'm down for the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown in April. I feel a little guilty not having visited either yet, even though I'm only 100 miles away.
-
February BYOAC Denver meet up at 1UP?
I feel the need for speed with their super turbo Ms Pac setup.

Aaron
I'm down for sure.
Exidy who has alot to do with the games at the 1up and 2up chimed into the Shmups forum Denver meetup discussion. Maybe we could cross the streams a bit and see if klov, Shmups, and byoac folks would want to meetup on an afternoon and maybe Exity could talk shop a bit. That might be a post Feb meetup kind of thing. Maybe April for the pinball show...
-
count me in!!!!!!!!!!
-
That would be great to get a good cross-board meetup going. I'm actually in the process of buying a MVS cart & pcb from Exidy over at Shmups. Small world, he messaged me about the items I was looking for, and from a link in his sig I realized he was a tech at 1up. What day of the week works best for you guys, a Sunday, weeknight, etc. ? I'm pretty flexible since I work from home. This week is shot though, but any other week this month I'm open.
-
Evenings are good for me but weekends are better. I like Sunday nights.
-
I'm cool most nights after 8:00.

How does Sunday the 17th sound?
-
sounds good for me..... around what time are you thinking. I should be able to make a cameo
John
-
I can make the 17th work if it is later in the day.
-
Maybe like 6pm?

6 is good for me

Sounds like a plan!
-
Still on for Sunday night @ 1UP around 6? I'll be there.
-
Well it's still the plan to go down but I need to go to Colorado Springs tomorrow my grand pa broke his hip ans I need to go see him.
So since I have no idea what you guys look like how do I find you if I do go.
-
PM sent with my contact details.
-
I'm 50/50 at this point, my wife had something come up and I might have the kiddos. Maybe we should try to push it out a week?
Sorry about your grandpa Furry131, that sucks.
-
Yeah that might be better it sounds like.
I'm good for Sunday @ 6 again if that works for you guys.
-
crap.
I'm booked next sunday evening. I'm free earlier in the day.
-
Earlier in the day would work for me to, like 2pm?
-
So next Sunday the 24th at 2?
-
Sounds good to me!
-
We are having company over for dinner at 4:00 on the 24th so I would not be able to come for long. Any room for a bit earlier? They open at 11.
-
Sure I could do 12pm if that works.
-
I would think that would work for me. I'll have to check with the boss (wife).
-
12 works for me too.

So 8 to 12 inches tomorrow huh???
-
So 8 to 12 inches tomorrow huh???
I'm a straight shot down Colfax to get downtown so snow shouldn't be a big issue for me. How about you guys?
-
Well I live in northglenn. Well see when it gets closer in time how the weather is. I have crafts number ill text him and let him know for sure as well as post in here. But if its blowing good tomorrow ill probably just hang here and brew beer
-
I'm down south in Highlands Ranch, so I'll see what it looks like tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's just the weather folks over hyping a few inches.
-
It is pretty messy down here in the Ranch with the wind, so I have to skip out on today. My schedule is wide open though the next couple weekends to try again.

Looks pretty much the same here. I'm open any time also.
-
I'll propose some days/times over the next couple of weeks after I sit down with the boss and see what she has scheduled for us. ;)
Too bad we couldn't meet up but at least we get to go sledding.
-
Sounds good, I checked with my offline scheduler, and it doesn't look like she has anything planned for the next couple weekends.
We've got about 7" down here in the Ranch. I'm not shoveling anything until it stops... not like on of my neighbors who has already shoveled three times. Ain't nobody got time for that!
-
We have 8 inches at last check. So instead of doing nothing today I decided to brew some beer. Should be ready in about a month or so!!! Making a orange hefeweizen!!!! Like widmers. Should be yummy
-
We should have the .eethp at your place O0

-
Lol I would be ok with that but my games suck. My mame is a crappy machine I got off Craig's list. It works fine for me but needs lots of help! Runs just fine but looks like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. And my golden tee fore /tekken 3 is not bad. But I would be too embarrassed to show them to people who know what arcades are support to look like. :-(
-
You forgot the golden rule though... the more beer is consumed, the better the games look.
-
Furry
I forgot that we were meeting up with an arcade game focus. I was thinking homebrew!

Lol point taken. Maybe we can do it in march at my place for some homebrews. Straight from the keg!
-
I'm always up for beer in any form :)
What I really needed this morning was a wifi enabled snow blower and a Jamma harness.
-
The stack of quarters on my desk is growing larger...
-
You guys going to the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown (http://www.pinballshowdown.com)?

I know I am planning hitting up RMPS on the Saturday session. Just trying to convince the wife to go.
The stack of quarters on my desk is growing larger...
I am booked this weekend thanks to my cruise director. I think I could do next weekend.... I don't think I will be too drunk that weekend.

I've thought about it that last couple of years but have never attended. Maybe this would be a good thing to do a meetup for. That way Furry131 doesn't have to talk his wife into going :D.
How does the 16th or 17th of this month look for a 1up meetup? The 17th is St. Patrick's Day if that means anything. I personally prefer earlier in the day because it is much less busy.
-
The 16th works better for me, earlier in the day is cool. Hopefully Exidy will have a shump setup by then!
-
I'm good to meet up on Saturday during the day. 12 or 1 is best....
-
I'm good for Sat too. Shall we say 12:30?
-
sounds good to me
-
Sounds like a plan!
-
Any word if Exidy put in a Shump cabinet at the 1UP?

I haven't heard any. I guess we'll find out tomorrow :applaud:
-
Just realized the St. Pattys Day parade is tomorrow from 10-2pm, and the route goes down Blake, right in front of the 1up. Can we move the time to 2:30? It might be rainy tomorrow, but the parade usually has a big turnout and that end of downtown will have be packed.

Yeah I was just about to suggest that. Pretty sure I can make the 230 time.
-
How about 12:30 at the 2up and we avoid the parade crowd altogether?
SIII + Cyanogen + Tapatalk 2
-
I checked the 2up's Saturday hours, and the website says "opens at 3pm daily".
-
Crap. I just checked 1up and they are doing 21+ only tomorrow, expecting to be busy for the parade.
SIII + Cyanogen + Tapatalk 2

Hopefully by 2:30 a lot of the parade crowd will have moved out... or passed out.
-
I'm going to drive down there closer to 2, hopefully the parade has wound down by then.
-
Good meeting up with you guys today! That place was packed by the time we left. Good to see them do so much business, maybe they will open up 3up one day on the north/south end of town. Finally found a use for all the quarters on the dresser.
-
I'm thinking about heading here one day, maybe Sunday:
http://www.pinballshowdown.com/ (http://www.pinballshowdown.com/)
Anyone else going?
-
Friday and Saturday. Booked my room yesterday. :)
-
Man, wish I wouldn't have missed that event, but I am down for a meetup and the 1up or 2up to drink some beers and play some games any time Denver people!
-
Cool keep an eye on here. I think we are going to meet up in April??? What event did you miss?? The rmbp isn't until the end of the month.
-
I'm definitely up for an April meet-up!
-
Oops I misread the dates! Have you all been to the 2up yet? I haven't checked it out myself.
-
We haven't done a 2meetUP yet but I've been there a bunch of times. They are close enough that we could easily hit both locations in an afternoon.
I'm down for a meetup sometime this month.
I'm good the 20th, 27th, or 28th in the afternoon/ evening. how about y'all?
-
I'll be hitting up the 1UP and 2UP either on the 26th or the 27th or both, while I'm down there for the Showdown.
-
27th in the afternoon, or 28th afternoon/evening both work for me!
-
Afternoon of the 28th looks good for me right now.
-
You guys going to the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown (http://www.pinballshowdown.com)?
I totally forgot about this. I think the 1/2meetUP should work with forlks headed to the Pinball showdown. Or even better, we should do a RMPS meetup AND a 1/2up deal.

Sunday is the easiest for me to make; but, I could rearragne a few things on my schedule and make later Saturday.
Is anyone in additon to Nephasth comitted (or very interested) to going to the RMPS?
-
I am going to the RMPS... not sure what date or time yet! I think Saturday or Sunday would work for me.... I would probably do both places. I think we should work around Nephasth's schedule since he will only be down a few days.
-
Not sure what time I'll be leaving town that Saturday to head back. I'll be bringing a KLOVer from Casper down with me, and I'm not sure what his travel plans are for heading back home, which is another 180 miles after getting back to Cheyenne. But I'm more than flexible during the days I'll be there.
On a side note... Looking forward to playing WOZ. :)
-
I'm cool with working around Nephasth's plans as much as possible.
-
I'm definitely flexible too, could do the RMPS as well if we meet up on Sunday. Didn't realize it was in the tech center this year!
-
Wow prices for the show are more than I thought they would be! I'd rather put it on a bar tab , any consensus on the meet up date/time?
-
I'm definitely flexible too, could do the RMPS as well if we meet up on Sunday. Didn't realize it was in the tech center this year!
I am pretty sure I can make the RMPS on Sunday as well.
I might be able to swing a 1/2up on Friday or Saturday evening.
-
Not sure about Friday/Saturday, my scheduler has something planned for us I think. Sunday though at the RMPS definitely should work for me. I have not played pinball in quite awhile, sounds like fun!
-
I'll be at RMPS throughout the weekend; I'm bringing a DK and Millipede in for the show. It'd be great to meet some of you guys.
I also live about a mile from 1UP and I'm always looking for an excuse to walk down there.
-
I think i could make it sunday... just tell me when and where and i will let you guys know if i could make it for sure or not. things are crazy right now....
-
So I guess the main focus is the RMPS for the shorter term. I'm still open to trying to add a 1/2up deal but that is secondary at this point.
It sounds like we are going to meet up on Sunday. How early can you guys make it? It opens at 9.
Nephasth- what is your schedule man!?
A total aside...
The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time is a documentary I just stumbled across. I guess there are a few collectors from the Denver area in it:
Includes Colorado collectors Dan Gutchess, Jon Jamshid, Mark Draher, and Jeff Hendrix
http://www.thespaceinvaders.org/screenings/ (http://www.thespaceinvaders.org/screenings/)
Trailer 1: The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=327iCaaZd8Q#ws)
If anyone else is interested in checking this out, let me know.
-
I could be there @ 12, or probably 11am if everyone is getting there in the AM.
-
Nephasth- what is your schedule man!?
Planning on arriving around noon on Friday. Staying at the Tech Center Friday night. It's looking like my friend from Casper will be driving himself, so I'll probably leave late Saturday night. As far as when I'll be where specifically, no idea. Playing it by ear.
-
For some reason I thought the event was this weekend, doh! Next Sunday I could make it pretty much anytime.
-
102 pins listed on the Showdown's site (http://pinballshowdown.com/attend.html). ;D
-
Plans are beginning to fall into place for me. Looks like I'll be at the 1UP tomorrow for lunch, around 11-12, as I make my way down to the show.
-
This is where I think things stand.
There are two events with days/times:
- the RMPS is Friday-Sunday.
- There has been a 1up time defined by Nephasth as a Friday lunch.
Nephasth- 1UP Friday for lunch, RMPS Friday and Saturday.
34k - "at RMPS throughout the weekend"
Sharpfork - I can't make the Friday 1UP lunch but am planning on hitting the RMPS early on Sunday. I will look for 34k. If anyone else is going to make it, I'm happy to share cell # so we can meet up. I'll have a red KADE shirt on BTW.
Furry131- "I think i could make it sunday" are you headed down?
CraftyMech - ???
idsane - ???
-
I can make the RMPS Sunday, around 11-12pm. I don't have anything in the afternoon so I'm free to hang until around 4-5.
-
wish i was in that area. sounds like a great time :)
-
Sorry I missed meeting up. I didn't see any forum updates and it was too nice of a weekend to not be outside with the family! 8)
-

It was a fun show, I played more pinball then I have in my entire life. The classic video game room was small, but there was a nice selection of cabs: Robotron, DK/DK II, Stargate, Tron, Mappy, Centipede, Millipede, Qbert, Asteroids, Ms Pac cabaret, Space Invaders, Big Buck Hunter, and two MAME cab setups.
-
1Up meet-up in June?
-
I'm in for later in the month: 22nd, 23rd, 29th, or 30th.
-
All those dates work for me. How about our other Denver-ites, up to drop some quarters at the 1up in June?
-
I might be able to swing the 29th or 30ty. I'm out if town the week before
-
The pile of quarters on my desk is growing...
-
I'm still generally good for this weekend or next. I've stopped by flipper McGill's a few times in recent weeks so my quarter stash isn't as vast as CraftyMech's!
-
How does this Sunday afternoon work for a 1UP meet-up?
-
I booked out 1-3 this sunday, the 30th. I'll check with the keeper of the master house schedule to make sure this works.
Anyone have a good way to get ahold of Exidy to see if there is shmupp at 1 oe 2up?
-
Cool, that time works for me as well!
Other than Shmups, you might try KLOV, I know he is a member there as well.
-
Heading down a littler earlier @ 12pm, to get a jump on parking before the Rockies game traffic at 2.
-
Ghost pepper 1up burger, never again...
I had fun plaiong games and chatting about making new hardware for the hobby.
-
Beware the ghost pepper burger!!
I did have my best ever game of Pac-Man though on a speed hack board set with maximum lives: 504,320 :woot
Played my first round of Tapper, made it to the second screen of Satan's Hollow finally, and discovered 2 player Joust is much more fun than 1 player Joust!
Good times dropping quarters and discussing projects.
-
I figured I would poke in over here and see if there was any denver activity and sure as ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. Good to see it, here is what I currently have in my basement, not pictured is my crus'n USA sitdown that I am working on right now.
https://vine.co/v/bFAaIYerV2i
I keep an eye open on this.
-
Sweet setup!
You'll definitely have to come out next time we meet up at the 1UP and talk shop with us and drop some quarters.
-
What part of town are you in eclipso? I'm in Stapleton.
galaxy SIII-cyanogen-tapatalk 4 beta
-
Im up in Thornton near 128th.
-
I live down in Highlands Ranch, between the three of us we have the north-south Denver corridor covered!
-
I'll be in Denver all weekend. Plan on hitting up both the 1UP and the 2UP while I'm there. Hopefully find some other places to play some pins too.
-
Anyone going to the Kong Off 3 (http://www.thekongoff.com) this weekend? CraftyMech and I are trying to pick a day to go and Saturday is looking good. I personally want to go there earlier to avoid the bar crowd.
-
Kong Off was awesome! More DK machines then I have ever seen before in one place. The final scores are in and it was a really competitive event, with 9 out of the top 10 spots over 1 million points.
-
Good times. I had a great time hanging out with you guys.
Like I said, let me know about any meet-ups at the 1up. I'm always down for chats, beers and games.
-

Sure thing!
PS I think your sweet garage cade inspired Kevin to think about adding a dedicated cab. Home arcades are contagious ;)
-
I'm down all week for training, anyone interested in some beers and games during the week?
-
RMPS is coming back to town in April, who all is planning to go?
The event is in the same tech center location it was held last year, the Sheraton I believe. I'd like to at least on Saturday, maybe for a bit on Sunday as well.
-
Saturday is a bit of a madhouse. I was thinking about just going on Sunday. It is a shorter day, but it was so much quieter that I played everything I wanted to play multiple times.
I will be going for sure though.
-
Same as last year. Be there Friday, leave Saturday morning.
-

You're leaving Denver and coming straight to ZapCon in Phoenix, right?
-
I like the Sunday idea.

Anyone interested in a Dragon's Lair or Gauntlet Legends showcase? Could probably arrange delivery along I-25 anywhere between Cheyenne and Denver...

I'd love a Dragon's Lair but my wife would kill me. That being said, prices?

I'll get prices from the owner and let you know.
-
Sunday was definitely nice and quiet last year, although that damn OZ pin always had a line!

Hello fellow Colorado arcade enthusiasts and vidiots alike!
I used to live in Boulder and Longmont (still have property there) and since 2008, I now head up the SW region, in Pagosa Springs. I've been into emulation since about 2005 when I first modded my original Xbox.
A little over a year ago, I started my first cabinet build. I wouldn't really call it finished - are they ever fully finished?! I'm still always tweaking things just like most around here. And, yes, it's completely addictive. I've already begun plans for a vertical screen classic system, and horizontal screen classic system. That's assuming my wife doesn't leave me first.
Anyway, I'm kinda hummed I don't live in the Denver area anymore, at least for the arcade aspect. Hooking up with some fellow gamers would be amazing. Down here, the rancher cowboy folks don't really understand this addiction.
So, in short it's good to see there are others like me somewhat close by. I go to Denver on occasion and would love to meet up over beers and classic coin ops.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and, great to meet you all!!
Markus
PS...I know it's late in the season this year but if anyone wants to come down to Wolf Creek for some skiing/snowboarding, you have a friend - my house is 18 miles from the "most snow in Colorado." :D
-
Great to hear from you Kevin!
Cab projects are never truly finished ;)
-
Be sure to let me know if there's another 'meet up' in Denver - I would try hard to be there. I still own a home in Longmont so it would be good to check in on it and have some beers with some of you guys!
-
So this Sunday at RMPS, Sharpfork and I are planning to meet up with other KLOV'ers, BYOAC, and Shmup'ers for lunch. If you are going to RMPS, let us know and we'll figure out a time and place at RMPS to meet up!
-
I'll be there Friday. Still debating whether or not I want to go to the Pinsider meet up at 7pm on Friday. :dunno
-
I made it up to Estes last weekend for a quick business trip. No time to come down to Denver or Boulder, just drove through.
Though, I did drive by the Pinball Arcade in Lyons (wasn't open, too early :hissy:) http://www.lyonspinball.com/ (http://www.lyonspinball.com/)
Have any of you guys been up to Lyons to check it out??
-
I've had a ton of fun at Shmup and KLOV meetups at folks houses. Maybe it is time to think about something like that for folks here.
