Title: Confused on Bezel/Marquee
Post by: wonkalow on August 03, 2007, 10:18:00 am
So I've been reading for a month or two now about every thing I possibly could find. i finnally got my Buttons/Joysticks, Ipac and PC all delivered and here, and finnally got started. It turns out the odd shape of my cabinet wasnt quite going to work. So Im having to rebuilt the marquee section (and it has no bezel). Out of all of the guides/project logs Ive looked at, I never seen any good descriptions on how they mounted the Marquee. Most guides just explain the image, but not how it gets mounted into the wood. I have some ideas based on pictures, but id like to do it right. I also have a decent idea how to do the bezel, however both of these are just how im "assuming" I "could" do it from my minimal knowledge on pretty much everything im doing here (minus the PC and software). So i'd prefer not to risk it.

So, would anyone happen to have the links to a couple of guides or websites that might be a little more helpful on how to do the bezel or marquee?

also I assume I can just get the marquee printed up and sandwich it between two pieces of plexi, but how would that look compared to a real arcade marquee? cheaper? or close enough of a match that you cant really tell? and is there a specific kind of paper I should use?

Thanks for any help

Some arcade marquees are printed sheets placed behind or sandwiched between sheets of acrylic or glass. If it looked too much like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, so many people wouldn't be using the technique.

It seems that a lot of people use marquee retainers...I just cut a groove in the sides of my cab to slide the plexi and marquee into.  Just depends on personal pref or cab design I guess.  I'll bet though if you search for marquee retainer...you'll find lots of topics on here with usefull info.

I ordered my marquee from mamemarquees.com great turnaround time, looks great and did not break the bank.

I went up to homedepot and picked up two pieces of 1 yard aluminum L-rod.  Not sure of the technical name, but it is basically a metal L.  Grabbed some rustoleum spray paint.  Then I just got a simple hack saw and cut the rod to my cab length.  Drilled two holes and spray painted it black.

They work great for holding in the metal.  Cost me $2 for metal and a few more for the paint.  Since its aluminum, it cuts like you were cutting oak.
