Title: Would This Mame Cabinet Be A Good Purchase?

Just debating as to whether or not I should purchase this Mame arcade cabinet from this guy since he lives close to me.    However I'm not sure if this is a good price for what I'm getting since I have never purchased a MAME cabinet before and want to work on this as my very first project arcade.  So if you could please let me know your thoughts it would be appreciated.  Also,  if I email him what are some questions that I should ask him regarding the cabinet?

Thanks,

That is a complete ripoff, no controls, no monitor, no coin door, no art, no pc.  You would be paying 250 bucks for a black wooden cabinet shaped box

From what I'm reading, if he's not including anything with the cabinet, I'd say no for $250.

"Price does not include the X-arcade, computer or TV, but you can put a 27" tv inside the cabinet. "

$250 for a homemade shell that doesn't even have a bezel, coin door or control panel?!?!

Pass on it and look for a gutted real cab for $100 or less.

Alright.  Sounds like I should pass on this one.

Thanks for the advice guys

If you like the shape, you could always offer him 50 bucks to haul it away for him.

I'd offer him 50 bucks if he agreed to kick in for gas.

Check and see if there are any gaming auctions around your area...check them out and you might can find some good deals on used or gutted cabs...Do some searches on some cabinet plans...and perhaps build one that is more of your liking....good luck

That sounds like a good idea.  I wonder if there are any good gaming auctions in Northern NJ?

+1.  That thing looks awful.  I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a gutted cabinet.  I live in north Jersey - check out TNT Amusements in Philly - they are constantly selling gutted cabs for $25-$50.  Just be patient and something will eventually come up - I bought a Donkey Kong cab in decent shape back in 2009 from a guy in South Jersey for $36 and it came with the very difficult to find Nintendo coin door.  Great deal.  Be patient.

That's where I got my gutted VO cab for $50 (which is now my driving cab).
They even brought it to an auction near me so I didn't have to drive all the way to philly.
A lot of trouble to go to for a $50 cab.  :)

Search fleabay and sort by distance.  That's how I found them.
There is another seller closer to me that always has cleaner cabs with decent side art for around $100.

The Light - up Marquee is changeable, right now my picture is up there that's why it's blurred out.

Oh good God. Don't tell me its that same dweeb who thought he was such a hot ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- that his pic had to be in the marquee but blurs it because he can't take the criticism? Where the Hell is that thread?

Buy it! Put in a computer, monitor, artwork, marquee, coin door, fans, light, and controls. Flip it and make millions!
