Hi Everyone,

I'm thrilled to share the release of RocketBlinky!

RocketBlinky is a 3rd-party tool that can, in a matter of minutes, auto-generate an LEDBlinkyControls.xml supporting over 160 HyperSpin systems. Translation: It takes 99% of the work out of setting up LEDBlinky.

Demo Video:
https://youtu.be/3lTQEgGKLGg (https://youtu.be/3lTQEgGKLGg)

**Before using RocketBlinky, always backup your current LEDBlinkyControls.xml in case you run into problems**

WHAT IS THIS?
RocketBlinky is a 3rd-party tool and is not supported by LEDBlinky. It can auto-generate an LEDBlinkyControls.xml that supports over 160 HyperSpin systems in a matter of minutes.

IS IT OFFICIAL LEDBLINKY SOFTWARE?
No. RocketBlinky is a 3rd-party tool. Please do not contact Arzoo/LEDBlinky Support with questions about RocketBlinky. Instead, please post in the appropriate thread on the HyperSpin forum.

HOW IS IT USED?
RocketBlinky is NOT a shortcut to avoid learning LEDBlinky. RocketBlinky IS a shortcut to get your cabinet setup as quickly as possible, on as many HyperSpin systems as possible, without the countless hours spent programming each system or researching and programming per game control functions and colors for systems like AAE, Daphne, Doujin Soft, Locomalito Games, MAME, Sammy Atomiswave, Sega Model 2, Sega Naomi, Sega Triforce, SNK Neo Geo and Taito Type X. In fact, it will take longer to read these instructions -- which you definitely should do -- than it will take to get your system setup!

HOW DOES IT WORK:
Simply put, LEDBlinky lights arcade controls by matching the controls and KEYCODES defined in your LEDBlinkyInputMap.xml with the KEYCODES defined in your LEDBlinkyControls.xml. For MAME, LEDBlinky doesn't use the KEYCODES, just MAME's input names like P1_BUTTON1 or P1START. To customize an LEDBlinkyControls.xml to your unique cabinet, RocketBlinky uses search/replace logic and a global Base.xml file to create a new LEDBlinkyControls.xml customized to match your unique control panel.

COMPATIBILITY:
RocketBlinky supports control panels with:

Buttons
Up to 8 buttons per player

Admin Controls
Exit, Pause, Select

Pinball Controls
Up to 2 Left Flipper buttons and up to 2 Right Flipper buttons
1 Pinball Plunger (this can be mapped to any button/joystick directional you choose)

REQUIREMENTS:
Before using RocketBlinky, you'll need to:
1. Install or update to the latest version of LEDBlinky
2. Create an LEDBlinkyInputMap.xml using LEDBlinky's GenLEDBlinkyInputMap.exe
3. Configure your LEDBlinky settings via LEDBlinkyConfig.exe
4. Setup LEDBlinky with your preferred Frontend/Launcher
5. Define either a FE Active Animation within LEDBlinkyConfig.exe or add your preferred Colors to the HyperSpin Front-End Controls layout
To define a FE Active Animation, run LEDBlinkyConfig.exe, click on the FE Options tab, and choose an FE Active Animation from the dropdown
To add Colors to the HyperSpin Front-End Controls layout, run LEDBlinkyControlsEditor.exe, click the FE button, double click on each Control and then choose a Named Color from the drop down.
6. Because rom names are sent via command line, for per game mappings to work on systems like AAE and Sega Naomi, your rom/game names must match official HyperSpin Databases for the buttons to light properly. If your XML names don’t match, LEDBlinky will use the system default layout for that game.

GETTING STARTED
(Before getting started, please complete the 6 REQUIREMENTS outlined above)
1. Run RocketBlinky.exe
2. Using the dropdowns, select mappings that match your control panel's joystick and button mappings. If your panel doesn't have the corresponding control, leave the field blank.
3. If your control panel has Admin buttons, select the mappings that match your control panel. If your control panel has a Pause button, you'll want define both your RocketLauncher Pause button as well as your MAME pause button, within the GUI.
For RocketLauncher to function properly, these buttons should use different buttons for RocketLauncher Pause and MAME Pause. If your panel doesn't have dedicated admin buttons, leave the Admin fields blank.
4. If your control panel has Pinball controls, select mappings that match your control panels flippers. Select the control panel button, plunger, or joystick directional that you would like to use for the plunger. If your control panel has only one flipper per side, use LeftFlipper1 and RightFlipper1 and leave LeftFlipper2 and RightFlipper2 blank. If you don't wish to setup any Pinball controls, leave the fields blank.
5. After mapping all desired inputs, click the GENERATE button and a new LEDBlinkyControls.xml will be created.
6. Copy/Paste the LEDBlinkyControls.xml to your LEDBlinky directory
Backup your previous XMLs before replacing it
7. If LEDBlinky.exe is currently running, close the application completely before testing.
This only needs to be done when using a new/modified XML, as LEDBlinky only reads the XML at launch.

FAQ:

1. How do I get this to work with RocketLauncher?

While this question really applies to LEDBlinky natively, and not RocketBlinky, the answer is the same and since I get the question a lot, I wanted to share the answer here. To setup RocketLauncher to work with LEDBlijnky, whether you're using RocketBlinky or not, use these settings within the RockerLauncherUI:
Global --> General Settings --> Third Party (Tab) --> LEDBlinky --> Define the path to your LEDBlinky.exe
Global --> Main Settings --> LEDBlinky --> Enabled --> All

2. I'm using RocketLauncher with LEDBlinky and most of my systems, including MAME, are working.... But none of the MAME-related systems, like SNK Neo Geo, CAVE or Capcom Play System, are working. What's wrong?

Before fixing this, it's important to understand why it is happening. RocketLauncher communicates with LEDBlinky via command line arguments. The format looks like this:
LEDBlinky.exe "romname" "systemname"

For example:

LEDBlinky.exe "1942" "MAME"
LEDBlinky needs all MAME-related systems to be named "MAME" so that it can pull the correct control and color information. The problem is that RocketLauncher uses specific names for each system. As a result, RocketLauncher sends LEDBlinky command line arguments that it doesn't know what to do with. Here is an example:

LEDBlinky needs to receive:
LEDBlinky.exe "2020bb" "MAME"

RocketLauncher is sending:
LEDBlinky.exe "2020bb" "SNK Neo Geo"

The solution is to use RocketLauncher's LEDBlinky System Name function. This function allows a custom System Name to be used, on a per system basis. To fix each MAME-related system, we need to tell RocketLauncher to send "MAME" as the system name for that system:

Select the MAME-related system in RocketLauncher, for example, SNK Neo Geo
Settings -> Main Settings -> LEDBlinky -> System Name
Add MAME to this empty field
RocketLauncher will now tell LEDBlinky to use "MAME" as the system name for this system, and LEDBlinky should work as desired.

Yes, that's exactly what it does. I say this humbly, but I've been somewhat surprised in the lack of response so far. It eliminates the need for hundreds of hours of manual research and programming of system buttons/colors, especially on the arcade systems like Sammy Atomiswave, SNK Neo Geo, CAVE, Sega Model 2 etc

( :

It's pretty straightforward, but let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to hear your feedback once you test it out. The feedback on the HyperSpin forums has been overwhelmingly positive.

I rebuilt my cab and used this tool.  It worked perfectly.  I only have arcade systems on the cab and in 1 hr. I was up and running with working lite controls.  My only suggustion would be to allow some emulator specific button setups.  I have a slightly different button arrangement for demul than mame and i did two runs to merge the resulting ledblinkey file.

One more suggestion,  use a tabbed layout to assign the buttons to make better use of the screen.  It was impossible to configure this tool on my cab that has a max res of 800x600

Thanks so much for the feedback and I'm glad to hear everything worked perfectly for you. I agree 100% about the UI needing work. Unfortunately, I have zero coding abilities. After coming up with the universal logic and structure for the RocketBlinky "base" XML, I worked with DJVJ, the developer of RocketLauncher, to create a UI. It's written in AHK right now. Regarding customizations per system, I don't think the current UI logic would work with that.

However, If anyone has the skill or knowledge to create a better UI, I would welcome the help! Just shoot me a PM

Finally got around to trialing this today.

Worked great on most of my systems.
I had to reconfigure the genesis one as you have set top and bottom rows opposite to me ;)
Also had to manually configure Neo Geo MVS & CPS 1 & 2 but other than that all worked well.

My only suggestions for inprovements would be to have a quick key button when you are setting up the controls and get Neo geo mvs/CPS 1 & 2 on there, other than that top stuff :)

Thanks Newoski for this tool. I tried today but it doesn't seems to recognize all my games. Most use the default config: it lights all my buttons in white. I'm sure it's a problem with my setup. I downloaded it in another forum and comes with Hyperspin, rocket launcher, mameuifx and thousands of Roms. So, I'm definitely not an expert. You write:"If your XML names don't match, LedBlinky will use the system default layout for that game". I tried to check the roms in Hyperspin but it shows me not any ROM, should be configured directly in Mame!? Well, any help would be appreciated.

From what I can tell, it sounds like the buttons are lighting correctly, but the colors are wrong? If it's MAME you're describing, would be an issue with your LEDBlinky setup/settings/files, not RocketBlinky. Most likely, a missing colors.ini file. If you'd like to shoot me a PM with your TeamViewer info, I can log in a take a look...

All the CPS should be on at this point, no? I'll have to double check. I'm fairly certain they all are. I'm not a huge Neo Geo guy... refresh my memory... MVS layouts would be identical to the regular Neo Geo, yes?

Regarding quick key, I'm with you, however, I didn't compile the EXE... only the logic and the XML. At some point, I might work with an Upwork freelancer to rewrite the EXE with that functionality, and the ability to only add systems you choose, but no plans at this time.

Not sure if you have updated it since I made that post?
But if not it was not preset for me and I had to do it myself.

As for the MVS they should be like this:

Thanks, I figured. My question was... the game list should be identical for MVS/AES, right? I'll take a look at the latest HyperSpin XMLs and then add the missing system. I've got an updated XML that I'm itching to release. Minor fixes and tons more MAME games added. I'll add the 2nd Neo Geo system, before releasing.

Oh, I bet I can guess your issue with the CPS systems... Are you using RocketLauncher? If so, you'll need to use the LEDBlinky name function. Let me know and I'll walk you through it. Super easy.

Yes I use HS and RL.

I have it set up now ok anyway but may be worthwhile posting it up here for future people?

I just added this to a short FAQ on the HyperSpin thread. I'll update the original post here, shortly.

This was a life saver for my cab so thank you! I have LEDBlinky now functioning in Hyperspin.

Only issue that plagues me now is sometimes I get the wrong colors lit up on start or when exiting to Hyperspin. Hopefully I can figure that one out.

That sounds like an LEDBlinky settings problem. Possibly your FE profile or something related. Next time it happens, post a debug log in the LEDBlinky support thread.

Yep will do. I should clarify, after LEDBlinky speaks the controls and the game starts, some colors flip. But, this happens rarely. Then, when exit, some colors flip / don't light.

Anyways, seriously thanks. I was pulling my hair out getting it to work on my cab and this solved my issues. Can I donate some beer money?

Totally off-topic: any chance on getting this to work with steam games ie: SF4, Broforce, Expendabros, etc. My next mini-project is getting those games inside Hyperspin.

I don't plan to program PC games, as that would be an endless task and user preference would likely vary... however, adding games yourself is really easy via LEDBlinkyControlsEditor

Cheers :)

What's the preferred emulator for AES? MAME, right? Using the old MESS code?

If so, I think that might be a system that would be better mapped individually, as a standalone system using the full name SNK Neo Geo AES, instead of the MAME name... that way, it will still work for users that use older versions of MESS or other emulators...

Thoughts?

But I know lots of guys do use MAME.

Try setting the LEDBlinky System Name to MAME in RocketLauncher, for AES -- even though you're not using MAME. That SHOULD get you 99% of the way there, so long as you're using the RocketLauncher/HyperSpin database naming for your roms. There are 3 extra games that I'll need to add. Report back if you have any issues.

I just set up a blanket colour setting for nebula to use in blinky so MVS is a simple system to fix :)

Mind testing, real quick? Works for me. Just want to make sure it's working for someone else. Also, added benefit would be only lighting the activ controls... Unless you prefer them all lit, for Neo Geo, regardless of game use

All lit probably won't be supported by RocketBlinky, however, it's pretty simple to add a system with a single layout in LEDBlinky. That said, if I get around to rewriting the EXE with an Upwork developer, as opposed to using AHK, I'll keep this option in mind. For Neo Geo, I could include the option to only show active or show all buttons. I could also add option to choose whether to light the Sega buttons top to bottom or bottom to top. That's all a future pipe dream at this point, however.

Crap, SNK Neo Geo AES and MAME share a few ROM names but the game titles are actually different. pbobble is Bust-A-Move for AES but Puzzle Bobble for MAME. THat means the only solution is to manually re-create all the AES games on a dedicated LEDBlinky system.

Hello can someone help me with a question when setting this up. Since i use ultrastik 360s joysticks do i still need to assign keys in rocketblinky for the player directions if i want to use the map swapping feature in ledblinky ? I think i would because i still want it to speak the primary controls for the different games and systems but dont want to linit myself to 4/8 way mapping on the 360s for all emulators

Good question. I don't have U360s so I didn't factor this in -- though from your post, I can't tell if it is a problem. Could you explain in a bit more detail what the problem might be... how you'd like it to work... and then I can try to figure out a solution

Oh wait... you mean because some games use bidirectional etc? That's baked in... for MAME games

LEDBlinky uses the primary control (designated on the Player 0 tab in the Controls Editor) for each game to determine the u360 mappings (2/4/8/analog etc.).

Thanks to Arzoo's clarification, I can answer this question more completely, now. Most games that use 2-way directional mappings, or diagonals for that matter, are MAME games and are already programmed via controls.ini and the mamelist.xml files. These should continue to work, as with regular LEDBlinky. All I do is add additionally mappings for missing games and a TON of systems. If you come across any systems that should been mapped 2-way, let me know. I don't believe there were any that SpotUp or I missed, but if you identify any, it's an easy fix. Let me know if you have any other questions

So here's an odd one. As a reminder, my hyperspin setup uses rocketlauncher to launch instead of hyperlaunch.

Mame has been working great with Rocketblinky so i gave NES a try. My install uses Mednafen for NES and the lights almost light up correctly.

My KI2 Cab is as follows once I launch into a NES game:
1P - WHITE
P1B1 - RED
P1B2 - RED
P1B3 - WHITE
P1B4 - WHITE

2P - White
P2B1 - RED
P2B2 - RED
P2B3 - [nothing]
P2B4 - [nothing]
P2B5 - [nothing]
P2B6 - [nothing]

Despite the xml files specifying otherwise. I remapped it so select is Fierce punch on both controllers, but quick kick on p1 is lighting up still and FP on P2 isn't lighting up at all.

So, again, how it should be but isn't:
1P - WHITE
P1B1 - RED
P1B2 - RED
P1B3 - WHITE

Hi epic,

I'm confused by your button descriptions... Mind sending me a PM with your TeamViewer info? I can login and get you squared away.

If you'd prefer to correspond via this thread, please let me know:

1. What those button labels mean. Better yet, let me know the info in the standard format of P1B1=, P1B2= etc
2. Are you using "NES" as your system name in RocketLauncher? Or are you using the correct, RocketLauncher default name, "Nintendo Entertainment System"? If you're using anything other than "Nintendo Entertainment System" you'll need to use the LEDBlinky System Name workaround...

Sorry for the confusion, they are simply 1 = Player 1, Quick Punch / Medium Punch / Fierce Punch. I modified the original post to reflect the layout in your terms.

I wish I could tell you how things are labeled in RocketLauncher. I try to load it manually and it never opens when double-clicking RocketLauncherUI.exe - don't know if that's a Windows10 issue on my end or what. Meanwhile my setup works fine. I bought this setup from online so I've been piecing together how things work. If you had time to teamviewer tonight, I'd be totally down but I would not want to waste your time on something that's probably solely on my setup.

For anyone following along, Epic had two issues here. One was an LEDBlinky setting. Once that was fixed, things worked as expected. Regarding his use of Button 3 for "Select", I provided him with instructions to manually make the changes he'd like. Since he doesn't have Coin buttons for either play, he needs to use one of his game buttons for "Select" on consoles. This button changes, based on the number of buttons used by each console. Thus the need for a workaround. The randomness is something that can only be accounted for manually, but we came up with a simple set of steps he can follow to get to his goal.

So I'm getting ready to tackle AES, but have a question...

How do you guys want the first button defined?

Should it light up PXB1 or PXB7 etc? What is that standard mapping for cabinets that use the Neo Geo extra button?

MAME mappings are fluid, but since this is a console and dependent on keymappings, I'll need to specify which button to light up...

Sorry I dont understand the Q.

If you mean what buttons did I use to do the Neo Geo config on my standard 6 button set up I basicly went Button 4,1,2,3 to give the "curve" of the layout if that makes sense.
I.E. 2 rows of 3 buttons in the following formation.

1 2 3
4 5 6

of course if you have a 8 button set up you would probably go 1,2,3,4 or maybe 5,2,3,4 so it really depends on your CP layout and how "normal" you want it to look"

Right, the problem is... We can only choose one. Worst case, a user needs to customize it to meet their needs, as they would without RocketBlinky. I think your suggested layout makes the most sense. I'll have an update soon for you to test, if you're willing...

Ah that was what you meant then :p

Yeah I think (personally) Thats the most logical way of doing it as most mame cabs run a 6 button build but you always have the 7 and 8 buttons ones to!
As you say you can only really work to 1 and its not hard to change it if you need to as its the same for all MVS/AES games so you can set up a blanket setting Like I did on mine.

Keep up the great work, Proper little time saver this tool, Shame ime not likely to be building anything with LED's again for a while though!
Ime in the process of preping a MVS tribute cab at the moment actually but its using standard Happ's :p

Glad you're enjoying it! What's your question? N64 has a default profile, in the photo you posted, no?

What systems are you having issue with? Have you tested them via LEDBlinky command line?

IE

LEDBlinky.exe "Game Name" " System Name"

Make sure you restarted LEDBlinky.exe after loading the customer XML

If you're like, you can PM me TeamViewer info and I can take a look

Oh I see what you're saying... Systems like N64 have XBOX as the primary controller, since it doesn't fit arcade layouts. Thus, it simply speaks Primary Control XBOX Controller, not individual player controls or buttons

Make sense?

What an amazing program!   This will save me hours of work.  I am having trouble getting this to work with an arcade that doesn't use the default MAME layout.  When I load RocketBlinky it often has the wrong keys mapped and even after I change them on next load it will revert some keycodes back to the incorrect ones.  I am getting partial success with this program but was hoping to get a little help.  Anyone available to take a look?

Has anyone else received error 0xc000007b when trying to run this? That seems to be a Windows error relating to not having all of the appropriate libraries or .dll files installed, but I’ve tried installing everything I can think of and can’t get it to work.

Building my first arcade and went with Ultimarc's Ultralux and Classic RGB buttons. Also using LEDBlinky. Practicing counting to 10 as I prepare to dive into animation setup. lol Then I ran across this thread. Boy do I hope this will work for me!! I notice it's mostly talking about Hyperspin and Rocketlauncher. I'm not using either of those. I'm using Launchbox/Big Box on a Windows pc with LEDBlinky, along with MAME for arcade games and Retroarch for NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Atari 2600. Can anyone confirm whether or not this will work for the hardware/software I'm using? TIA!

I'm really struggling with ledblinky, would this tool help?

I don't have an arcade system with thousands of games, just 10 or so Mame games but I cannot get ledblinky to work properly either going through Launchbox (which it works with but then fails when I load Mame) or going via Mame direct. But I get the impression this tool is for those who have 1000s of games, can anyone advise please?

This sounds like an amazing and helpful tool. But I don't use hyperspin, I use Launch is/Big box. Will this work for that as well?

Just an FYI,

It appears this app no longer works in Win10 64bit with the C++ 10 redistribution pack installed for 32 or 64 systems.

I am getting that same issue.  As I am seeing that it has been a while since there have been any related posts on this, I am assuning RocketBlinky is dead or just something I can use if running an older version of Windows?

Might want to try downloading and installing the C++ 2010 redistributable library (32bit version).

Alternately, if you have access to a Win10 (or older) PC, you can copy the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100.dll file over to the Win11 PC. Then just put that file into the RocketBlinky folder and you should be good.

Just wondering if you managed to solve the NeoGeo issue? I have an 8 button cab and setting up typically
1 2 3 7
4 5 6 8

But I have a neogeo.cfg which re-lays them out
1 2 3 4
1 2 3 4
(to allow slightly different positioning)

Is there any way to get LEDBlinky (with or without RocketBlinky) to recognise this layout, since it only seems to recognize the default even though MAME is using the neogeo.cfg

Thanks!

Hello!

I ran RocketBlinky 1.1.1 and it's awesome! One question though: My P1B4 is always on when playing games. It is set to LShift, but no MAME UI settings that I can see are set to LShift. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Wow…I realize this is probably a dead thread, but I also have been pulling my hair out at P1B4 staying green. Did you ever figure this out?
